Imagine going to the toilet as a woman and a man is in the toilet, if you aren't a woman you won't understand what that means. Imagine going to prison in a women only prison and being housed with violent male prisoners, and again if you aren't a women you won't understand what that means, and it means terrible.

i wish the same thing, but the main reason the army doesn’t allow transgender soldiers is, unfortunately, due to the high healthcare costs associated with getting a gender reassignment and therapy afterwards.

hermaphrodite is an outdated term, the condition is called being intersex now. And usually the condition is more male or more female, it is rare for there to be completely ambiguous genitalia but in those cases usually they reconstruct the genitals if necessary to one gender or the other

The Army forced me to buy my first pair of heels (cis female) to wear with my Dress Greens. Then, they made us walk though grass. So freaking awkward.

Consider this: Trans people are the most dedicated people. They are willing to give up everything about their previous self to live authentically, under go a lifetime of hurtful societal pressures, endure years or decades of medications, surgeries, come out to their family and friends and they do it every day while no one watches, that's dedication. Yeah, I want this level of dedication in my Military. I'm a 1988-1996 US Army Military Police Veteran and I'm also transgender.

I'm 66. The world really has changed. I served in the military. Maybe one-day, we can get rid of religion and its hate and start loving each other the way we should. I cried when I saw how these two sweet kids love each other.

It's actually crucial to tell them the gender you were born as.
Taxes shouldn't be funding for their choice to be on meds based on appearance goals. And that's been a goal.
Actually, you DO have to tell them what gender you were originally at birth. Regardless if you're for or against transgenderism, the chemical makeup within original male and female bodies are different. They need to know which gender they were originally so they can properly give the right dose of the right drug without running into complications or death.
Regardless of your "plumbing", sexual orientation, religious beliefs and so-fourth.....when you are a soldier and you have sworn an allegiance to the American Constitution and you are willing to fight for our country, those things that others try to use to divide us are irrelevant! Americans are the embodiment of a multitude of people who are united in our love of our country and what it stands for!!!! If the "haters" can't deal with another's individual's freedom or their own personal truth to be who they are....maybe THEY need to read our Constitution AGAIN. It's NOT about their god or their hate or their insecurities!
At the time I had served, and had the time line put us together, I would have been so proud to serve along Logan's or his wife's side. A soldier's, marine's, airman's, sailors creed is the same: we watch each others back and we fight for the Constitution of the United States AND the freedom and liberties of our own and the people of the United Sates. It is the multitude of all of our differences that make us stronger.

So I think this actually changed my opinion. I was always of the mindset that because trans people tend to go through a lot of physical changes, it would hinder their ability to serve. But...I think I don't believe that anymore. Clearly, this couple is doing everything they can to serve their country and it makes me angry that they're not allowed to go by their preferred pronouns.
@J T they do in fact have a neurological condition called gender dysphoria. in the womb they're exposed to different levels of hormones and it impacts the development of their brain. its proven now in multiple studies that, for example, a transgender male (FtM) will have a brain with a more similar structure to that of a male. the only treatment available is transition. its simply not logical to deny them the right to live as anyone else based on something that has little impact on their ability to function post transition.

I was in the Military almost 30 years..I also am retired from a high volume EMS service. I am proud of anybody I served with who goes through so much and has to work harder to prove themselves. i served in the army and when i was in, homosexuality was illegal. i knew a guy in my battalion that got kicked out of the army for being gay. im glad this individual can serve and not have to worry about his sexual preference anymore. as far as im concerned, most people dont want to serve so if you're gay or straight and you wanna be in the military, you're my brother or sister and i got your back no matter what. u have to have a lot of balls to serve your country for minimum wage.

Livingmylife I'm planning on enlisting in the marine corps. In the marine corps you can't hide that you are transgender. They mess around with you, they'll find out and you'll definitely get hazed. The Air Force is one of the easiest to deal with. The marine corps is the hardest. This guy is one of my idols.

I think it has more to do with the toll that a sexual transition takes on the body. Military service is tough for people in their prime. Having someone transitioning from male to female/ female to male is not practical for service. It will cost more than its worth, just like someone joining who are going to go through a major surgery or medical treatment in the near future. It's just not practical. And how many will join just to cover the costly expenses of a sexual orientation change?
