So with Scotts failure (50 bmg that exploded) it was caused by a faulty slap round. He had fired many slap rounds from that batch that day had no reason to expect that it would cause failure .

Had a hot piece of 40 brass get caught in my collar behind my neck while shooting a USPSA stage locally. I kept focused through the pain and removed it at the end of the stage which was fortunately only another eight shots or so. Left a nice second degree burn with blister. Another time had a 22lr casing flip up and get caught against my right temple behind my shooting glasses while at the range. Set the gun down, swept it clear. Just a few seconds was enough to give me a wicked burn. When I teach new people I give them a very specific safety order that if ANYTHING weird or unexpected happens, keep the muzzle downrange and set the gun down before dealing with the problem. That lead-in tends to be kept in mind well enough that they remember it should something happen.

Scott later on fired the rest of the batch of SLAP rounds he had bought, and several of them had so much overpressure that the rounds literally froze the screw breech and were a pain to remove. I think he later on stated that somebody probably reloaded the rounds by hand and used pistol powder instead of rifle powder - we saw the results.
The tests he conducted and recorded later on are absolutely worth checking out.

Mark Serbu, the builder of that RN-50 that Scott fired and it rapidly disassembles itself on him, figured out that the SLAP round that caused that to happen, had been tampered with. Wherever Scott got that ammo from, it was not a reputable source. What Mark found, was that round had been taken apart, all the proper powder was poured out and it was reloaded with pistol powder.
When Scott had been looking at the footage of that video day, he did say that the muzzle blast was getting bigger after a while. So the rounds he had been shooting, were probably all tampered with to one extent possibly.
It was an unfortunate thing to have happened, but should be a reminder that DO NOT BUY ammo from an unreputable source and do not buy very rare ammo like that. You have no idea if its been tampered with or not.

6:50 Most striker fired guns don’t have manual safety’s anymore, so he might not have even been able to. None of my handguns have manual safety’s at the moment (although some new acquisitions may be on the horizon hehe). I will say though, one of the first things I would train with a handgun with a manual safety is flicking that thing on safe every time I’m done shooting. Getting used to hitting that safety is something I train with my AR all the time since I dry fire quite a bit.
Unfortunate about that guy ND-ing into himself, but VERY fortunate that he wasn’t 3-4 inches higher.

Scott's cat-fail is one of the reason why, anytime I'm RSO of a range (I don't care what the range's rules are as usually they are less strict then my rules [and anyone who asks me to be RSO knows this ahead of time], as I'll do things like lay a moron out if he/she flags someone, thankfully I've not had to do that), I have a trauma kit in the room and/or a max of ten feet from the firing line, I have at least one other person with a civilian medical responder certification (preferably EMT or Paramedic, but EMR technically counts) or a current/former 68W Combat Medic/18D Medical Sergeant (or equivalent) on hand with at least three different ways to get in contact with 911 (usually two cellphones, and a radio), and a designated vehicle + driver for CASEVAC (specifically prepositioned to be able to load a casualty in and take off to a location an ambulance or helo is able to get to easily). If things go bad with firearms, the chance of them going FUBAR is extremely high and I want at least two people there able to render immediate aid and get the casualty packed up and on the move to help within a few minutes. And if I can get two people who specialize in trauma-focused medical aid (ie a pair of 1T2X1s [USAF PJs] or 18Ds), I'm a very happy RSO.

Dude with the AK was cool and all.
I also used to work for an FFL and got to talk to a lefty who was in the army, testing the M-16's, it happened to be raining, so they had their rain ponchos on, and since he was a lefty, he kept getting brass in his top through the poncho's hood

While they might still be okay to use it can't be guaranteed that they are still sterile when expired. The reason I know this is because they let us keep the spent .30-06 shells, which all show signs that they were crimped before they were shot, which from my understanding is something that you would only see on blanks(gun people please correct me if I’m wrong about that)

So the very first gun I bought was a Stevens 520 Riot gun from an Army buddy of mine. There are hardly any records on the gun but we do know its an early model so we believe it was made about 1912-1916. Shes OLD. Well another buddy of mine and I went to the range with it and for the first few shots I refused to let him shoot it cause we were using slugs, as thats all my range allows. A lot of forums were saying dont use slugs as they might over pressure the gun. All I could think was "im not letting my best friend shoot this thing and then have the barrel just explode" so after about 5 to 10 shots I handed it too him. And honestly, shes never had a problem other than she doesnt like low powered ammo. If I use 1250fps slugs (it only accepts 2 3/4 shells) the gun wont cycle right. All that being said, theres a risk with any guns and especially old guns too with modern ammo. To be fair, old guns were made to differnt specs so because of that sometimes the metals pieces are thicker or their just more robust to handle looser tolerances so theres less of a chance to fuck something up. But there is always a risk in enjoying guns. Like Kip said, its a controlled explosion launching a projectile, its gonna be dangerous by its very nature

For the polish soldier keeping still, military bearing is a hell of a thing. Not in the military but went to a jrotc course for all 4 years of highschool, and we get taught military bearing and drill as the first thing, and if you are one that competes in a drill meet, we get it drilled into us, take that to a way higher level AND then having rounds in the chamber of an AK (even if they are blanks) freaking out isnt an option that goes through your head from what ive seen and felt in both jrotc and military leadership camp made for those that hope to go into service. Again, not actual military, but I still know basic drill, and when shit happens in any drill ive seen and been in, even seen from academy platoons, messing up will happen, everyone keeps going, and then afterwards when you are not in a fully public area you get told off for minor issues or chewed out for major ones. Panicking doesn’t even cross the mind, or if it does, it gets shut down and overtaken by what you know to do.
Yes i rambled, but i do that.

I still had the focus to stop and set down the pistol before I went to clear the brass out.
Second most painful experience with hot brass was at a CMP match. I was shooting prone next to a concrete pillar for a bench. A .30-06 case from my M1 bounced off the pillar and went down my pants, square in the center. Getting burned on the buttcrack is unpleasant, to say the least.

2: *NEVER* point a weapon at *ANYTHING* you are *NOT* willing to destroy!
3: Keep *AWAY FROM* the firing mechanism until you are *100%* ready to shoot.
4: *KNOW* your target *AND* what is *BEHIND IT*!
    *NO EXCEPTIONS!*

so my favorite example of "Dangerous Tool can, and will, hurt you if you misuse or mishandle it" is an Angle Grinder.
you don't know when the blade might catch and shatter in your face, and the amount of force it can deliver is enough to break bones in some instances.
your only hope is to know what you're dealing with and have contingencies in place should shit hit the fan, as well as every safeguard reasonably available to still use it
i do not own firearms at this time, and these videos are reinforcing a few habits while handling lower-velocity projectile weapons.
the same care and consideration for the dangers can also be applied to things like knives

Also also also also ALSO. Do not go alone. If you aren't in a public range with people around, you are going out somewhere where it's legal to shoot out in the wild, or out on your own large property. Have someone with you, in the event you are incapacitated, or injured in a way you can't rescue yourself. Then you have someone else there to call for help, to help bandage, or in really bad cases help keep the blood inside you while you get to a hospital or for an ambulance to arrive.

If I’m not allowed to show a model kit get detonated with fireworks on my channel, then those videos of people shooting handguns and stuff in the air should also be removed. Granted mine probably got me in trouble by showing the fuse get lit or something, but my friends and I were being relatively safe in that once the fuse was lit, we got to a safe distance from said explosive. The model kit hilariously survived though, only lost a couple of fingers and bits o the head armor. ABS plastic is pretty strong as it turns out. The model kit in question was a failed build of a MG GM Vers 2.0. We didn’t really get shrapnel off of it as the softer plastic that disappeared from it was straight up deleted. Though I get that videos like that could possibly inspire some people to do something like that but in an unsafe manner, which is why I complied with CZcams and deleted it. I didn’t want to deal with any unnecessary consequences and whatnot.
Edit: when I recorded and uploaded said video I was in my twenties, so it seemed like a good idea at the time. No alcohol or other drugs were involved. As a more mature adult working on a college degree in cybersecurity, I do understand that maybe I shouldn’t have done either of those things in hindsight.

16:09 To preface the detonation that is about to happen, thank God Scott is okay. Now, to clear up the mystery for you, the most likely candidate for the cause of this detonation is the round being a reload with pistol powder as opposed to rifle powder, the amount of energy imparted upon the cap and the area right in front of Scott's face was like twice or more the pressure this thing was rated for and it was rated for well over a regular .50 BMG cartridge and should be able to take a normal, actual SLAP round with no issue. This however was, as I have said, no normal SLAP round and Scott almost payed with his life.

The brass issue is why I wear tight sport bras under my clothes if I go shooting. And a shirt with a high collar (not taking ANY chances again, once was enough) because I'm really busty and you only have to learn how hot brass is (I wasn't shooting, an idiot I would later make cry because of how badly he was behaving flipped the brass my way and it seemed to aim for glory) and it took a solid 2 weeks to heal up - betwixt ones tata's it's tough to heal things quickly because, well, kind of an environment that closes itself off and is buried under clothes meant to hold them up and keep them in place. Busty means going braless is a tough sell so you are essentially stuck with a 2nd degree burn in an area constantly being rubbed. So yeah, feel some kindness for the gals at the range. And hope they have found good tops that shield the goodies. Cause... wow. Whole new realm of ouch.

Video#1, yes, those are blanks, which is why they have to rack a fresh one in each time. There's not enough pressure pumping back through the gas system, which is usually held and forced back by the bullet, to cycle the action. Also... Someone needs to check their firing pin for a slam-fire condition.

Yeah, hot brass sucks. Once I was shooting my Tavor-7, a .308 bullpup. I wasn't paying enough attention to the sling and it had covered the ejection port. When I fired the brass followed under sling and got trapped between my sling and my arm. Thankfully my immediate reaction was to twist my arm enough to have the brass fall away from my arm.

I had a slight burn mark on my eyelid for a few days.

we have saw to cut aluminum profiled beams at work ((like square 40mm² beams with a lot of hollowing toinstall fixture and save weight))
one day a dude cut a slightly too thick bundle of beams, so the upper layer of beams had the wrong angle of engagement which made one of the beam fly and go halfway through the steel plate roof, despite security grid and hydraulic pincer.
had the beam flown horizontally it could easily have cut someone in half.
machine tools (and cars aswell) are dangerous tools that most people underestimate the danger of using.
so guns are just another dangerous tool

The safety of RPG warheads are like the safety pins of hand grenades, it shouldn't go boom until you pull that pin. From what I understand, RPG teams often work in pairs with the one not firing the RPG carrying a specialized backpack that carries a maximum of 3 warheads, so its an awfully good idea to have a safety mechanism to keep those warheads from going off in the case that you fall while traversing rough terrain.

I stayed focused put cross hairs on front shoulder took deep breath, Pulled the trigger and I clearly heard it fire even the casing ejected. But nothing buck didn't move just started looking around. I pulled back up thought maybe I was aiming too low because well deer was on a slight incline. Aimed a little higher pulled the trigger next thing I knew I woke in the hospital, The bullet never left the barrel of the gun so when I fired again boom. Fudged my shoulder, scaring on my chest and neck, as well as hand/arm.

The polish indecent had to be a mechanical failure of the weapon as you can see none of their hands are anywhere near the trigger's during this drill movement as such the sear must have caught the hammer and held it just long enough for the weapon to go fully into battery before slipping and releasing the hammer otherwise the hammer would have hit the back of the bolt carrier and lost all it's forward momentum before striking the firing pin.

Getting shocked isn't fun. I got shocked by 230V with propper safety equipment and it still sucked. What happened was that someone befor us mounted a metal shelf over sensor activated metal sinks (cleaning station for entering sterile section in food production) and apparently screwed one screw in to the cable for the sink. My coworker and i were mounting mirror above it and when cleaning the shelf and sink with a damp cloth i connected the shelf and the sink with my right hand. I was wearing safety shoes with the category S3 wich are esd (electro static discharge) safe but i was still able to feel the shock through my right arm all the way through my spine in to my lower back and it hurt the rest of the day. In a worse case that could actually have killed me. My boss and the electricians who figured out what the problem was said that i was "lucky" to find that problem because it was verry hard to replicate that and would most likely never have been found in normal use.

Kip using a Lineman death as part of justifying firearms being dangerous is actually triggering me. I am a Lineman. I accept that there is a risk of dying in my chosen line of work. I do everything in my power to control that risk, but it is still there, much the same as responsibly owned firearms. The HUGE difference is in the question of WHY we take that risk. I and other linemen like me take that risk because it is a necessary part of providing that service to our society. Unless someone does my job there is no internet to watch this video. What is the equivalent for firearms? In a lot of cases there isn't one. There is a handful of cases where there is an actual purpose, I think a lot of people overstate the true value of firearms for self defense, but it does exist. Even if I give them that and hunting as valid uses, a huge portion of what people do with firearms has nothing to with those, and yet people are still out here shooting guns at tannerite lawn mowers and other stupid things with zero utility and tons of risk. WE ARE NOT THE SAME.

My dad volunteered and served in Vietnam. He worked as infantry and then an electrician. He had plenty of incidents of the Vietcong trying to kill him and others around him. The three closest times he ever came to death were after he came back home.
    1. Sliced his wrist with a shard of a plate he accidently dropped while washing it.
    2. Was out fishing and his boat got caught in a current that was to strong for its motor, went over a waterfall, got his leg stuck under the water and got an 8 inch long gash down to the bone. Had to sit on his capsized boat and hope help with a makeshift tourniquet came by because his phone was miles down the river and my brother, who went searching for help, went the wrong way.
    3. Fell off a ladder trimming a tree at my sisters house. He didn't consider that when the heavy branch fell the part still connected to the tree might move violently upward. He could have broken his neck, instead he broke his ankle and had to turn his foot 180 degrees so it was done before the swelling set in.
You can get hurt doing normal things, but to not do things you enjoy out of fear means you won't ever do anything.
Thankfully he is still alive and kicking at 70 years old and I am blessed to still have him in my life.

She was filming us at the range and was standing slightly behind and to the right of me. All the casings up to that point went nowhere near her, but this 1, the Golden BB, went back at the perfect angle, down a round neck tshirt (it's not like she's Sydney Sweeney in a V-neck) and lodged itself between her bra and the top of her boob.
