  • Today I am doing a quick unboxing the Apple AirPods Pro 2nd Gen or as some people are referring to them Apple AirPods Pro 2. I am also doing a quick comparison of the Apple AirPods Pro vs Apple AirPods Pro 2 (AirPods Pro vs AirPods Pro 2). I honestly have a hard time seeing a lot of differences physically between the AirPods 1st gen vs AirPods 2nd Gen. If you haven't caught on I'm really just putting a lot of keywords in this description.
    These released TODAY 09/23/22.

What do you guys think about the 2nd Gen Apple AirPods Pros?
I was disappointed with the announcement as it doesn't seem like much has changed. Also, looking aesthetically, not much as changed either (not that it needed to). Looking forward to testing them out more and seeing if it is actually worth it. As since the original came out Truly Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds have gotten A LOT more AFFORDABLE. Making this still one of the most expensive earbuds at $250.

Its basically the same design but only with a few changes to the case lol

I've tested it a bit more obviously... and I still haven't reached a solid conclusion. But current thoughts are
      1. Case is similar, obviously. But having the speaker is kinda nice as it tells you when it is charging and when connected (first time setup) which is pretty neat.
      2. The earbuds themselves feel different to me. As if they have a slightly different shape providing better seal for me. I'm not convinced this is the case and further testing/research is needed.
      3. Noise cancelling is much improved.
      4. Sound quality is also improved by a noticeable margin.
      5. Spatial audio is also improved. But this could be due to the ear design and I haven't done A-B testing with the previous version.
      6. Unsure how much all of this has to do with Bluetooth 5.3.
      7. Play/Pause when removed from the ear is faster. They also connect to my phone a lot faster and with less problems.
      8. Microphone quality is dramatically improved.
      9. I had one test with adaptive transparency where my dogs were barking super loud in an enclosed area and it brought the noise down to a conversation level which was awesome and honestly may be the most underrated feature. But again more testing needs to be done to confirm everything I said above.
So, overall a bigger upgrade than I was originally expecting (Thank God). But I'm still in the honeymoon phase. But have no desire to use my original ones as they really are nicer in every category. Enough to justify upgrading from the Gen 1 Pros? Depends on the individual. For me I use these everyday so yes. But if you use them occasionally then probably not.

@@ThomasMuehler A follow up when be nice. Are these the best out there right now? I have gone through so many reviews of BT Earbuds and trying to find the best one for sound quality (good diversity in sound, separation with instruments, great detail on treble, dont really care about bass) I'm hearing that the jabra elite 7 pro's sound the best, but through your review, it's sad to find out that it has connectivity issues. My budget is at around 250 bucks. Little advice would be super awesome, thanks.

@@xanderrednaxx You are correct, I need to do a full review. I haven't had any connectivity issues with the Jabras for a while now. Firmware updates have made them a lot better. But the call quality is still poor.
      1. I honestly don't think I could claim these are the "best". As there are a lot of earbuds out there, earbuds (shape, size, weight, features, sound quality, transparency, noise cancelling, etc) are heavily dependent on personal preference.
      2. With that said I do think these are "S Class" earbuds. Ratings from best to worst are S, A, B, C, D, F. Easily one of the best if not the best earbuds on the market (wholistically). To the point while I really liked my original AirPods Pros they had been left behind by the newest earbuds on the market and I was looking for a good replacement and struggling to do so. However, since these came out no other earbuds are of interest to me as they hit all of my personal preferences. For example those I can think of off the top of my head.
      - They just work. (assuming you have an Apple device). No connectivity issues. Great controls (play/pause, skip forward/back, siri, volume) that are responsive. Small compact case. Comfortable design.
      - A Class battery life. (6 hours, vs 8 being the top and 4 being the average). With case you get a lot more (don’t remember off the top of my head but like 25 - 30). Wireless and magnetic charging. The chime on the case also lets you know when the battery is low and also when charging.
      - Noise cancelling is S Class.
      - Transparency mode is S Class. Also probably the best I've tried on any earbuds (other than other Apple devices). The Adaptive Transparency mode is more of a gimmick. But it does work a bit by limiting sounds. But it is very mild and often not noticeable.
      - Sound quality is substantially better than the previous ones. I'd rank them A Class. Again, this is a very subjective thing. What I can say is that I don’t ever find myself saying these don’t sound good and I enjoy anything I throw at them (movies, music, podcasts, media, etc.). When I start to be highly critical I do notice some flaws. But again, in normal listening I don’t. Instruments are accurate, good imaging (can tell different parts of a song apart relatively easily), vocals sound good (but there is something just ever so slightly off about them when I’m being highly critical. As I think the mids/bass tend to be a bit overbearing which causes some muddiness). Bass tends to be way better than the previous version and one of the better ones I’ve tried but isn’t fully accurate. These definitely aren’t like audiophile quality where critical listening is going to recommended like my Hifiman Anandas. Granted you shouldn’t be expecting that level of sound from anything wireless much less the size of the nail on your thumb. But when it comes to earbuds I think the sound quality is at the point that 95% of people would enjoy them. Especially for casual listening/workouts. I will say that the upper range of treble (female vocals and crescendos) don’t go all the way up to the top to get the full experience and is slightly muted. In general most Bluetooth earbuds won’t do this. I think if the only thing you are about is audio quality the Sennheiser Momentum or Sony WF-1000XM4 will be more your speed. I had Gen 1 Momentum’s and they sounded amazing. But the rest of the experience was like C Class. I haven’t tried the Sony’s. But I think those have other issues as well. Which is why I’ve found these (whole picture) to be the “best” for me. And probably a lot of other people. As my use case for them is to have earbuds that I use when traveling that have a lot of versatility, good sound cancelling/transparency, good battery life, small size, and just work. Which these do.
      - As for the sound of these vs the Jabra Elite 7 Pro. Treble is definitely better on the Jabra’s. Female vocals and instruments have more impact. Slightly more natural sounding in general. Not nearly as good of separation (but it is still there where I can pull apart the different parts). Vocals aren’t as present where everything is a bit more “balanced” with the background sound being around the same volume (if not a bit louder). Bass is much better on the pros but more accurate on the Jabras. After my extremely limited and quick A B testing between them. I think I prefer the sound on the Jabra’s overall for music. As I tend to prefer treble over bass as well and the treble is much better on the Jabra’s with more impactful and “soulful” if that makes sense. Where I prefer spoken content on my AirPods. Along with generalized media. Which is what I do the most on my earbuds (audiobooks, media). But if I were listening to music I would pick up my Jabra’s over my AirPods. But I would also consider picking up the Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro. As they have really good sound quality as well. Where they have great treble (perhaps even to the point of being sharp) with excellent bass (accurate and meaty). Good separation as well. But I think I prefer the sound on the Jabra’s still for music. Unfortunately, one thing I’ve learned about buying a bunch of audio products is that there is never a “perfect” device. All of them are specifically tuned to do a few things great, but due to that other things not so great. Which means you either need to buy earbuds that are tuned for the majority of the things you listen to or have multiple of them and use them depending on said use case. Regarding sound AirPods are the best all arounders that will perform above average in just about everything, and probably do best for spoken word/media. Jabra’s I’d say are best for treble focused music listening but don’t do well for media or spoken word (always find them to be a bit quiet for that due to the tuning). Soundcores are best for those who want both great treble and bass. Mids are alright and the bass/treble tends to overpower the rest of the sound so imaging and other things aren’t as good. Other issues extending outside of the sound also hold them back in comparison to the other two.
      - Call quality is one of the better ones I’ve tried. Again, likely A Class but could be argued S Class in comparison to most other earbuds. Jabra’s are like C Class. Soundcore maybe A/B Class.
      - In general I don’t have really anything negative to say about these. Other than I think $250 is too much money. I don’t regret paying that as I love them. But with the rest of the market being mostly in the

Right?! I was disappointed with the announcement. Then they also stuck to the same $250 price point which is absurd these days. As I rarely see anything past $180. However, I'm still in the baby phase of testing them out. But Noise Canceling is noticeably better. At my early stage by a pretty significant margin. Granted my old AirPods are old and semi-broken. The sound is also quite different. But I'm undecided on if that is a good or bad thing. As currently they come across a bit muddy due to overemphasized mids. The volume controls are nice. But again, I'm not sold yet on if the increase in performance is worth that eye watering price tag. Still have a lot of testing to do though.

You are correct. I didn't test the sound quality in this video. But yes big difference in the sound quality along with noise cancelling.
