  • In the previous video, I mentioned what is the Dataflow, how it can be helpful, and mentioned some of the use cases of it in real-world Power BI implementation. In this video as the second part of the series for the Dataflow, I like to give you some hands-on experience with Dataflow and explain how a Dataflow works. If you like to learn more about what and why about dataflow, watch my video about; What are the Use Cases of Dataflow for You in Power BI:

    This the best explanation about Power BI dataflows step by step as of now with zero dislike ! Thanks a lot Reza :)

    How to separate staging and etl in dataflows? As linking the entities for etl it doesn't allows to do any transformations?

    Awesome video Reza! I tried to create a data flow for our SQL Analysis Service using windows credentials and it looks like it’s not available. I tried doing this in blank query and copying my M script over to a blank query but it’s giving me a error when I try to authenticate with my windows credentials even though it works in desktop as a dataset. Is there no way to connect to SSAS at the moment? I did notice they have an option available for Azure Analysis service though.

    Thanks a lot for your videos and blog. Could you do a video on variables in DAX? Especially the evaluation is interesting but difficult to understand. I have seen examples where it can replace the earlier function in a table because of its evaluation context. Could you elaborate on this? Highly appreciated!
    Best regards

    can we use this data flow on powerBI desktop ?

  • @chandrapamidikalva3277

    Hi I have a query for you
    I have five tables in my data model if I change the existing relation using userelationship function on one connection, How can I get the child data from the other tables using the new connection? It is an interview question

    Hi Reza!
    About cloud sources for Dataflows, like Azure SQL database for example. When I tried to do the connection, i am obligated to install and configure the gateway to make it work (even though it is a cloud source).
    As far as you know, are we obligated to use the gateway with cloud sources like azure sql database? Because If we don't use dataflows, we can schedule refresh without the gateway, so it is much easier to maintain.
    Hope you can give us some guide. Thank you for your videos!

      you don't need a gateway for Azure SQL database, but you need it if it is SQL Server database installed on Azure Virtual Machine.

    I've created dataflow in particular Workspace and EVERY user of this workspace can see all data in dataflow. This is not I want.
    I know there is row level security for reports/datasets but I can't find it for dataflows... Is it possible? Now the only one idea I have is create more Workspaces for different dataflows but it sounds bad.

    could Dataflow replace the SSIS package?

    • @RADACAD
      @RADACAD  Před 3 lety +1

      It depends on what you want to do. SSIS package does much more things than just a dataflow. It has a control flow too. If you are using SSIS just for the getting data from a source and transform it and load into destination, then in some scenarios dataflow can be a good replacement.

    Can you link an excel file without gateway??

    • @RADACAD
      @RADACAD  Před 2 lety

      you can upload a file in dataflow if you want. or if you have the file in OneDrive for business then you won't need gateway
