I've been that annoying guy who hangs out with the band and talks and asks questions at the merch table at a few shows. They--especially Satomi--recognized me instantly the second time, even though it had been like 2 years. They are such genuinely good and beautiful people, especially Greg. We talked about Gershwin, and he was actually into the conversation, not just "smile & nod". And, hey, let's be honest. They really are the best band in the world.

I've seen them lots of times & yes they are so humble, Greg recognizes & sometimes approaches me! They work their own merchandise table - one time Satomi was behind the merch table drawing unique Deerhoof T-shirts for sale - I had to get one.

Deerhoofs 2017 album is such an incredibly perfect and eclectic mix of just about everything I love in music. Classical interlude, radical protest, jamming riffs. Mountain Moves has it all.

So happy to have seen them in tiny venues way back!!! It may be a bit pompous but I feel like they had a genuine new flavour, and vision. In the Apple O, and Milk Man years I felt a strong Beatles vibe, and I love them for that. They matched ballsy rock hooks with enigmatic lyricism and style. It was a complete package, and they did it in an unironic way. Nothing against the bands from the last 5 years, but merely being "retro" isn't enough.

Rolling Stone mug... LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I have this (tongue in cheek) theory on Mick... People revere Dillon's lyrics because the music is nearly unlistenable. People overlook Mick's lyrics because the music is soo good. Wrong time capsule is brilliant!

There is no avoiding form, but as long as it’s only used as a guideline, it doesn’t hurt. The form doesn’t have to be a proscription

Okay it seems like he has Tourette's or a few ticks here, but when I talked to him after a show, I didn't notice anything like that. I mean, it's been like 10 years but I feel like I would've remembered. Anyway, I don't notice anyone mentioning it ever which I guess means everyone is more tactful and respectful than I am. But anyway, I hope he's doing well, obviously

deerhoof are my favourite band. (i wouldnt say the best because that implies some objective criteria which is stupid.)
i think they are a cult band so maybe one or two critics will champion them. but in general it takes a long time to appreciate a new album by them, maybe even 5 years, of paying close attention and relistens. so most reviews of their newer albums are essentially just saying "4/5 it's the new deerhoof album". they won't give 5/5 because you dont listen to their new album for a week and say it's as good as milk man. but 10 years later you might come to believe that the magic or breakup song are as good as friend opportunity.
even i feel that way with them as my favourite band, i would find it hard to review a new album of theirs to a deadline. so for a critic who needs to review 3 other albums that week, it's understandable that they say "new deerhoof album 4/5"
