    The last story is a textbook case of a "presumed innocent" victim of our judicial system falling between the cracks. How in the F*CK did he spend TWO YEARS in solitary without even being arraigned, much less sentenced? And what kind of lawyer did he have where he didn't immediately see what a horrible miscarriage of justice this was?! Of course, this is all confirmed when his charges are ultimately dismissed. Just unbelievable!

    • @LA_HA
      @LA_HA Před rokem +5

      Yes, it looks like his paperwork just kept being shuffled and the bureaucracy never noticed. 2 years to be arraigned is unheard of. It's weird that the lawyer didn't do anything about it, but just shrugged it off. It's almost as if someone had it in for him and messed with his paperwork.
      He doesn't have a say where he goes if he's taken into custody, though. Otherwise, everyone could just ask not to be put in a cell.

    • @twenty3enigma
      @twenty3enigma Před rokem +7

      He didn't get a "speedy and public trial" -- so you have to wonder if the police kept him, just to keep their number of inmates up -- to max out their federal funding.

    • @LA_HA
      @LA_HA Před rokem +6

      @@twenty3enigma No one gets a speedy trial unless they plead guilty and just keeps it moving. That's why they're supposed to be arraigned in lieu of the actual trial to get the ball rolling, or so I thought.
      And his family didn't do anything? After a couple weeks, they needed to be screaming bloody murder and talking about his mental health issues. Between his family and the lawyer, and maybe his doctor or psychiatrist, it seems like more could've been done. But, I guess we'll never know everything that occurred

    I don't understand why Steven was even kept in jail while waiting for trial for a DUI. That makes no sense at all. Unless it was his 3rd or 4th or he had other warrants out for his arrest. Also he should have had an arraignment rather quickly after arrested. So much was fucked up about this. Unfortunately things like this happen way more frequently than most people realize.

    That last story broke my heart. I’ve been in solitary and thank god it was only for around 2 weeks but that alone was absolutely terrible. I’m not against killers and/or rapists, etc being subjected to such methods but shit... 23 hours a day in a 6’x9’ cell - I can’t even imagine 2 years. And Idk what state that was in but it sounds as if he didn’t even get his hour per day out of his cell... Just... ugh... disgusting how humans are treated (and especially in our country that touts itself as the greatest country in the world.)

    I would think Steven in the last story, if they knew he had mental disorder, I would think there is a jail hospital they can keep him until trial. When that time come, drive him back into court for his hearing. Why did it take 2 years to get a hearing for this man. Couldn't he be bailed out. I thought the U.S. has a thing called the right for a speedy trial. If he was writing letters to his family, where were they and tried to get him help. I feel so sad for this man that went through that and he already had a mental problem and they were adding to it in the conditions he lived in. The guard who brought his meals, didn't he see the condition he was in or maybe not even eating his food. I thought those in death row, isolation got 1 hour outside time by themselves. Why couldn't a compassionate guard help this man, just by talking and getting him answers to his questions on when his trial was. If a person that does not have funds to hire their own lawyer, one is given to him. Where was his lawyer and checking up on him, or making a fuss that his client cannot go back to the jail. Through Steven's case and even winning a suit against the system (which a lawyer will take half of the 15 Million, I hope they system learned from this experience so it would not happen again to another person jail or not.
