As a Costa Rican i welcome you guys with all my heart but please learn and show more about my country than the nature. People get the idea that this is only what we are and it is not true. You have a huge platform and I hope that in the future you can show all the difficulties of our country and participate activily in the community. I know the eco comunity sounds great but that is not the reality for us and we need more exposure in those issues. Use this experience to actually understand us and not live in the treatment of what we call "the bubble forgein". I have follow you guys for many years but I have seen a huge lack of information about my country in more that just we are pretty place due to nature. Take trips to the capital, to our cities away for the pretty places and learn and I believe that that content will be very beneficial for your chanel and your personal growth. Sending lots of love! Take care guys

@@finleythegolden2909They are not obligated but that is exactly what I'm saying that is misinformation or partial information that forgeins believe that we don't have any other use that just nature. And it is my country and I'm sharing our reality. They always avocate to the greater good and I hope that they continue to do it while they are here. Beileve I see this reality everytime that I travel abroad. I just want to give them a hand to have a complete experience and sharing information that could benefit both parts. It like coming to your house for a party and not helping you clean after. I'm not oblogated but it is a courtesy because it is not my house. This is not a hate comment at all. But as a teacher, mother and costa rican I want to share my experience.

@@kasualbeauty309 Yes, but there are more times that people only recognize us as: Oh so you live in the jungle? So monkey gives you bananas everyday? -.- And even in job applications there is a struggle to past that element. And just to clarify I'm not angry about that about being know as the most natural place in a development country but sometimes that ideas make our every day quite difficult. And again I'm not saying that their content should be just that. I'm just saying that in the future they could share about us. Because it is an honour to have them here, to share my country with them. When I moved to the jungle side of Maui 4 years ago, I got a deep initiation into mold abatement! Dehumidifier is definitely the way to go... damp-rid is only moderately ok, for leaving in a bathroom / kitchen cabinet perhaps. When you're building your home make sure to have lots of outlets in your closets. I've managed to make my closets (generally the problem area for mold) amazingly mold-proof through having a combo of mini-dehumidifiers, small fans, and "goldenrod" heating rods. I can even keep leather safe in my closets, and most folks who live here just have to throw away all of their leather.
Hygrometers are your friends when it comes to knowing whether your climate-control measures will be successful.
Placing a heating element like a goldenrod or similar small boat or rv heater under any drawer unit is also key for keeping mold out of drawers. Damp-rid isn't strong enough for drawers, you'll need something that plugs in like a mini-dehumidifier or small heating element.
For cleaning mold off things that are salvageable, we use tea tree oil diluted with 90% alcohol, it actually kills the mold better than bleach.
Also watch out for any untreated wood, it will be a mold magnet and you just have to scrap it. If you're using plywood in the bus, it should be pressure-treated and then also sealed with some kind of water sealer. Bamboo can be a pretty bad mold magnet as well.
And lastly, for your health, it's a great idea to use an ozone generator to sanitize your living space from mold. We turn it on when we leave the house, maybe once per week if it's a bad rainy spell and you have a damp house. It will kill mold spores before they burrow into wood and things and get to be a huge problem. I do a great job keeping mold at bay nowadays, but even though I'm not seeing any, I might notice my breathing gets a little congested, but then clears right up after an ozone treatment.

Those little humidity rid containers only last few weeks ( no way 3 months). That's how much humidity we are dealing with.
Ants, will not cross a white chalk line ( I make several "X" chalk marks at my outside door entryways. Weird, I didn't believe it, until I did it at my house.
Ants & rodents do not like peppermint oil. I have put peppermint oil around nest. Ants will go off leaving in all possible exist points where I didn't place oil. Boric acid powder by ant nest too.
Bird 🐦 watching is no age limits. Many bird watching meetups are so much fun to attend & learn, globally.

The birds are beautiful, but it's good that the monkeys have not come to where your bus is parked. They can do a lot of damage and they're very brazen. And if they get inside they' often trash the place. My experience is months in Rishikesh India. They would sometimes even come in to the yoga class where they were actually some large men participating in the class. And no one tried to stop the monkeys from ripping the cushions apart because it can be very dangerous to confront a monkey.

I once had ants in my car I was living in... once they are in there they stay there for life. Soo annoying, I literally had to take the whole car apart just to find the nest. Good on ya for tuning the Humidifier :))

Appreciate your honesty. Likewise, I want to share my experience with using many of those same DampRid things in an environment not even as damp as yours is the amount of water they absorb is an unnoticeable "drop in the bucket" when you have that much damp in the room. If your stuff stays dry, it will be because of that machine Louis rigged up. So next time you can probably skip the DampRid.

I am also heading back to the UK in a couple of weeks. After being an expat for 14 years, I totally get the stress and anxiety of moving countries.

I had no interest in bird watching before visiting Costa Rica. I get it now, it’s interesting and fun when there’s so much variety to see.

I know power is limited but you should do an ev conversion like you did with your VW bus. Less maintenance, better piece of mind. Just thought I'd bring it up.

Do a good research before purchase house or land. Especially the weather of the location. The wind, rain..... All need to be done before purchase...
