Raya... my firstborn, a son, is 37 years old. I STILL remember how painful breastfeeding was for me, to this day. I was only able to stand it for a little over two weeks before I switched to bottles. I dreaded every single feed and I felt it was hindering the bonding experience. Once I switched to bottles, it was glorious!!! I am so very proud of you for holding on and looking for help in that area. They didn't have those kinds of things back then for me. I hope it gets easier and easier for you, my dear. And if it doesn't, I hope you never feel guilt for switching. My son grew up VERY healthy and is a fit young man of almost 40. Love watching you guys go thru this experience!!! You will absolutely love watching your son see things for the first time, for as long as that lasts. 🙂

People seem to be so resistant to formula for some reason, particularly with their first baby, but it helps so much and it's totally safe! Kids grow up just as healthy on formula, or with combination feeding as with solely breast milk.

I remember having a lot of the same feelings you describe. You two are doing an amazing job as parents. He is precious and the memories that you are capturing will be something that you will treasure forever. My first born had an excellent latch, but my second baby was tongue tied and did not have a good latch. So, I've experienced no pain and a lot of pain. The most helpful breastfeeding advice that I got was to take my baby off and try again for a better position on the latch and to express a little bit of milk onto finger tips after each feed and rub it on areas that are dry, sore, or cracked. Breastmilk has amazing healing properties and helped way more than lanolin if that is something you're experiencing.

Breast feeding is definitely not an automatic thing. I went thru the same thing with my first baby, with cracked and bleeding nipples (10/10 pain wise), and actually gave up after 3 weeks! :( With my 2nd baby I really prepped the last couple months of pregnancy, toughening up my nipples, reading a book called The Womanly Art of Breast Feeding, and was much more prepared! I breast fed until my daughter was 1 year old and self weaned. It does get better!! You are doing an amazing job!! Was going to give you heaps of advice as I felt very similar feelings as a FTM BUT instead I hear you, I've felt as you have before and now that I've had my 2nd baby I've been able to really enjoy it and haven't had those overwhelming feelings this time. You are doing everything you can for him and yourself and it'll work itself out!

This was so nice to watch, especially as someone who's had their first baby a week before you two! CZcams recommends '24hours with a newborn' vids all of the time, but they're so unrealistic and full of too many promotions (e.g. dropping the name of 6 products in the first 4 minutes).
Keep being yourselves and keeping it real! And you're doing an amazing job as Neo's parents ❤

Hey! You both are doing fantastic. Congratulations. Made my relive all different emotions when my boy was little. “Aware parenting” is something you should look into. It helped me a lot with understanding crying, and having a better sense of what they’re trying to communicate… all the best!! 🌷

Went through the exact thing with my first kid. Baby grows and your body strengthens. The journey definitely needs to be talked about more. It will get better! Take care of yourself! Just take one day at a time and find joy everyday where you can! You’re not a bad mom! You’re doing enough! You’re the perfect mom for that baby! The smiles kept me going to! Glad you’re seeing breastfeeding consultants! Second baby was slightly painful with breast feeding maybe the first few days or week but it wasn’t as bad and I knew it would get better and it was awesome after that!

I feel for the breastfeeding pain so much!!! I had a similar experience for the first 6-8wks of my now 4mo. It's near unbelievable how much it hurts. I almost gave up so many times, but I'm so glad I didn't now. I couldn't imagine it ever not hurting at the beginning, but now it really doesn't. My son had a craniosacral massage 3 times over the course of about a week. It was a GAME CHANGER. Not right away, but by 2wks later things were quickly becoming great. I also def had the "too much, too fast" problem, so it took my little one some time to catch up on how to handle it. But, yeah, 6-8wks before it stopped being a dreadful chore and switched to a delightful bonding time.
I kid you not, I'm transitioning from engineering project manager to lactation consultant because this was such a transformative experience for me lol.

Neo is precious! The 4 week mark is HARD. The evening fussing really played with my already hormonal emotions. You've got this!
Also, I have an ocean setting on our white noise machine. Works great and then my son took a really good nap the first time we went to the beach 😂.

Enjoy the little moments - - highs and lows - cherish them. Life screams past. Only last week my eldest was leaving junior school, my youngest was starting nursery. Now my eldest is taking driving lessons and the youngest thriving in junior school. Oh and record the most random things - - makes great viewing for later years !!
