    "You must trust your calculation" this is such a good insight. My calculation is garbage, but what am I doing if I'm not playing what I think is the best move? That's like going to the gym, saying "looks heavy" and going home.

    Missing horizontal attacks by either the Queen or the Rook are common tactical mistakes. The one displayed here is the most complex example of this that I've seen so far and was pretty cool!

    Excellent video, as usual, from an experienced, insightful, and motivational coach! His idea that you get better at calculation by doing lots of practice (and, as he recommends elsewhere, writing down your calculated lines + evaluations) is on point. Andras Toth is a great teacher!

    no bs approach. if you dont play lines because you might miss something in your calculation... then perfect your calculation. what I needed to hear!

    Hi Andras! Can you recommend any calculation book? I want to have a structured, organised calculation method, as Kotov describes in his book, but Kotov's suggestions are severely outdated and unrealistic. Also Jacob Aaagard's calculation book was criticized a bit by GM Kraai(from Chessdojo)
    P.S. My FIDE rating is 1820

      Complete book of chess strategy by Jeremy Silman, I read all of his books and his look at positional chess, using squares as goals or an opponents piece. My understanding and game play improved.

    • @lukastux3024
      @lukastux3024 Před 2 lety

      Many books on endgames also cover pawn endgames. The thing is that one can't really recommend anything without knowing your needs and your playing strength. For example, Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual is really famous, but not suitable for players under 2000...

    Just seen the video, AMAZING and very funny to calculare before you announce lines….BUT…. My question is: given:
    * the startint position
    * my almost 1800 rating otb
    * my immediately gut feeling that Qh6 somehow works and white is winning
    * some optimism for white that should play for attack and not for defense
    ….. which lines should I calculate in around 10 minutes to make a move and when should I stop the calculations ?

    - Andras rants in many video's about why we should be playing mainlines and play the open sicilian
    - Andras gives 2.c3 versus the Sicilian in his Chessable course

    • @ChessCoachAndras

      @@Panflap Its not even that. In beginners repertoire I dont get to say "learn these 20000 variations " or "just play it and you will be fine!"

    • @Panflap

      @@ChessCoachAndras Was tongue in cheek on my side ofcourse. I understand it's impossible to make a low theory friendly beginner course with the open sicilian. From what rating range DO you recommend the open sicilian though?
