  • I bought a $40 Janome bobbin case and a $10 Generic replacement. Is it a suitable replacement? Does the generic case need an adjustment to work correctly? (Spoiler alert) Yes, it does.

It would have been nice to see the machine sewing with either or each of the bobbin cases.

Hello! Thanks for the video. I don't have this machine, but reminded me to compare items when they aren't original parts first.
    Blessings

It's funny that you aired this at this time. Yesterday I had 2 singer merrit 4552 bobbin tensioners that I had bought for my sewing machine and they both were generic to replace my old bobbin tensioner. First the new ones were way too tight and I adjusted those. Both the old and new tensioners looked the same. And they did not work. The thread from the hook wouldn't go over the top of the tensioners. So I agsin compared and noticed that the new ones were a
hair too high. So I put the old one back in and the machine worked just fine. Now I still need to get a new bobbin tensioner.

Thanks a lot for the video, my Janome MC6600 gives me a lot of issues with the bobbin, for now this one worked. I buy my bobbins for Aliexpress as the ones her are so expensive like you mention. Now I now what to check for before I place them on my machine. I love the trivia question, God bless!

So I've seen you do a lot of maintenance on the jw8100 is that a big sign that it won't last as long and has more issues than a hd1000

I have a Singer model 2277 machine that is new and I have not been able to stitch the sample material with it yet and think it is the bobbin that is the problem.

I LOVE these type of videos. THANK YOU! I have a singer 9960 and the spring that allows the bobbin to move back that you pointed out at 6:24 in the video that isn't working right, it's allowing the bobbin casing to move way under it and I can only sew on the lowest setting due to that spring. I called 3 different sewing repair places near me here in Middle TN (within a 100 mile radius) and every one of those shops are full and behind by 6 to 8 months. Two were over 6 months before they'd even begin to work on mine, and the one was 8 mouths behind. They have so many machines to repair and only one person that is certified to fix the machines. Every shop only had 1 person who's certified working for that shop. The ironic thing is that Singer sewing companies main business plant is less than 20miles from me but they don't do any repairs at all. Any tips on what I can do?

The purpose of that spring is to allow a gap for the bobbin thread to pass and at the same time prevent a rattling noise when the gap rapidly opens and closes. Your spring may have been twisted a bit and rides too high allowing the bobbin case to pass under it at high speeds.
You can simply bend the spring back into shape. At the same time, adjust the gap. About 2-3mm is about right I think.
It might be easier to remove the spring before bending it. There is a mounting screw above the spring on the 9960 which allows replacement, not adjustment. If you need to replace the spring I found the part # 416396801 Bobbin Holder Stopper Assy. It is not expensive.
On my 9966 the gap was initially about 4 or 5 mm. On my Brother 6000i it was about half that amount. I just bent the spring on my 9960 to close this gap some, and it sews fine at high speeds.
I see you made this comment 1 year ago. Perhaps you have already serviced the machine, but if not try this fix.
