I am finally putting together a welding/fabrication /machine shop after going to school to bed a chemical engineer and getting run. over by a Ford F350 on my hand restored 1957 Panhead. I decided I really wanted to start a business where I am able to build and repair and restore the equipment I love instead of dealing with the people I really have gotten to dislike. I am also trying to power everything with steam. I love the view of the beautiful misty background. I hope you are well and still using all that great equipment. I am up here in Pa and with these two videos I can't get a feel where you are but it sure is beautiful.

My dad worked at Tractor Supply during the 60's, 70's, and 80's. I spent lots of time at the store while growing up, and I did learn a lot. Even though my folks and I don't speak anymore, I am thankful for some of the things they did teach me. Wasn't it called 'Farm Fleet' back then? It was for us in Michigan. BTW, We have a Tractor Supply a couple miles from us here in Florida and I love it. Kinda like walking into a Cracker Barrel store never knowing what you might find to remind you of the past...

That came along nicely. My buddy closed his family machine shop after 50 years on its anniversary. 15, 000 square feet of Machinery. He asked me if I knew anyone who needed a Bridgeport. I was like, I don't have the room for that kind of gear. They kept up all the Machinery nice all those years, but they just couldn't compete with all the new gear that was out on the market to compete against other companies.
I bought my mill from a shop that was downsizing also. Even prototyping is done on cnc equipment these days so there are many old mills like this out there. Some day I will do a cnc conversion. They are real handy. Thanks for watching.
Great work! Most factory gripper plates have a kick stand back to the boom. The fulcrum affect on your locking pin would be much less with the kick stand and a easy fix, move your pin hold 8-10 inch up the boom and two bars and a pin 8-10 down the gripper plate. The two bars could be made extra long with extra holes to change the angle of the gripper plate. Make it so that when the bars are removed and the gripper plate can be pin into the anchor point on the boom out of the way for a bucket attachment. You could go so far as weld two bolt on the boom to hold the bars when not in use.
I have to agree with several comments. It looks like you can do about anything. So fascinating to watch someone build things like this. I'm looking forward to seeing it in use for a stump. Great job. Thanks for sharing.
I haven’t bought one but I would like to. Have you tried leaving it hooked up to the tractor. The weight of downforce when digging would be higher because you would have a few hundred extra pounds. You could probably get in place faster as well then.
I am so far behind that I haven't been able to try it on some stumps yet. Having the right tools for the job makes everything much easier to make. Thanks for watching

This machine can't really pick that big a rock up. I think about 150 pounds is the limit. The thumb works best for things like brush with the ripper. Thanks for watching.

My Orthopedic surgeon told me " those things at the end of your arm, they are not hammers" . Carpal tunnel surgery, TWICE. I am a slow learner I guess, lolgood job on the new thumb.
Excellent video AND fabrication. How about adding a pressure regulator to lower the hydraulic pressure when gripping and raising for digging. Seems like you will not need as much force to hold something as you do to dig or rip. May help with the bending of the pins. Again I always enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.
I am going to try a grade 8 bolt first. That will have more resistance to bending. If there is still an issue I will switch to a 1 inch pin like the pivot. It doesnt take much force to hold but it is not controllable as you say and l think a better grade pin will work without messing with expensive hydraulic components. working the bugs out is the fun part. Yes it will. I've had my Harbor Freight trencher for several months now and your videos really helped with delivery, assembly and greasing. I have dug up over 15 stumps, dug a small duck pond, fixed a flower bed and I'm now ditching the roads on my farm. I am more than pleased and satisfied with it and it always seems to amaze me with what it can do.
Me and my hubby are always impressed with all your equipment and machinery. I have to ask how you came to own so much? Purely a hobby or from a former career?
Just for hobby use. I started collecting tools when I was young. I remember picking up returnable coke bottles along the road to have some money to go to the auctions with my dad and buy some old tools when I was very young. I like that ripper, looks like I need to copy it. The thumb may need a stiff arm link. Mine has a thumb on it and I’ve ripped of once already. I rebuilt the pivot point and now it built proof. I’m picking 20” plus logs 12’ long and dragging them out to pick up. Good luck!!
I can put full pressure of the ripper on it with no deforming but the pin that I used is the weak link. Going to try a grade 8 bolt first to keep it clean and light if that doesn't work I will go with a 1inch like the pivot shaft. This machine won't lift a 12 inch by 12 ft log so I think it will work. Thanks. It is a 1985. Bought it when l turned 40 but lost interest in getting pulled over by police soon after. A red corvette is a cop magnet and that year only had about 280 hp so it wasn't worth it. Thanks for watching.
I hear you, I have a bright yellow Dodge Challenger with approx. 550 horsepower and try and keep a low profile. Well as low a profile as I can even though I can be seen from everywhere,lol.
Every cop that passed me would pull me over to check if it had been stolen and then give me a warning about the slightly loud exhaust. Apparently red corvettes are one of the most stolen cars on the road.
I just buy the close out paint at my dollar store for quick protection on stuff like this. It said Oliver tractor green on the can. Thanks for watching.
Why add all the extra weight and complexity of hoses and cylinder plus change the valving system for something that can be done manually in a couple seconds. This is a trencher not an excavator. Thanks for watching.
RIPPER TOOTH…i have some shale rock that i would like to dig away and use for fill. I dont mind it being a slow process, as long as progress is made… have you or could you demo the ripper on shale or similar… that would help decide before spending thousands of dollars … thanks
Very well made, but I suggest you think about moving your 2 pivot points MUCH further apart. Any addition should be able to take the full force of your original machine without needing to worry about anything bending. No disrespect intended.
I bought a set of the Harbor freight cobalt bits several years ago and they are great for under 1/2 inch. The larger bits came from Enco many years ago. Thanks for watching.
I took it down. Had a scammer claim the royalty free music I used in it was theirs and CZcams gives them all the money made on it after a claim is filed. What the scammers do is look at good performing videos and if they find royalty free music they claim parts of it are theirs through a service and the creator is screwed. It costs fortune to handle it legally. Had this happen on a couple videos and will not allow it to make one more penny to support them. I am trying to just remove the sound now and maybe someday re upload it. Never use royalty free music again. Thanks for watching.

The scammers know they can get away with it. CZcams can't really do anything else but believe the claimant and let you fight it out. CZcams is good about taking down my videos that have been stolen and uploaded by others. That is why I put a logo on them so there is no question. I had one scammer even crop out the logo. The world is full of people that scam others.
There are no blueprints. All my stuff is gone since Fusion 360 shut down the free version. It's easy to work out with a piece of cardboard. Thanks for watching.

Great design and build using a extended bucket curl pin nice neat fold up out of the way one of the best I have seen.
