  • INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED Showing you how you can check and adjust pump timing without stripping off the front cover. You need an understanding that the diesel pump needs to be set accurately to achieve the correct results. Alternative tools can be used instead of tools shownThis is an old video that has been re edited and uploaded again.

    Thanks. For your video! Now I understood about pump timing and crank timing! It is easy! Other videos does not explain enough but your one is best! Thanks

    Thank You for the vid, I just did this on my transit after changing fuel timing solenoid (pump out) was still throwing errors, did this and has been fixed was out at least 5mm. Different Vehicle but same principle and similiar pump.. :-)

    can you provide the specs of the tools in order to manufacture them? I do not find these for sale.. how thick is the bolt locking the flywheel? Also what thread? what is the size of the tool that lockes the pump?

    I'll have a look at my mate's, I'll put the location pins in on the timing side and mark his pump as I pull it out then look at were the key slot is and just put mine in that position. I'm sure there all made the same.so if his slot is pointing to the top of pump housing that will tell me it's ready to fire on number 1

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  Před 8 lety

      They are not all the same. I was just looking to see if I could find any information for you but nothing that could help. If you know where the hub comes off in relation to the cylinder it was going to inject on would be a start but let say the keyway reference is sufficient for now........ from the final setting needs to be set exactly so where the pin slots in it will read the lift specified in the video I am going to supply you in a link. If you have the hub in the wrong position on the shaft it will not fire on the correct cylinder. Best to not touch your mates pump as you may mess the setting up off that. Hi, I've mistakenly took the pump off by undoing the 22mm nut and whilst it was on the bench my mate...........Ok I can't lie I stupidly moved the pump buy putting the 22mm nut back on..........yeah what a nob. I need to know the position of the pump shaft in to the pump body before I put it back in the hole.I've fitted a cam belt kit everything else is aligned apart from the position of the pump shaft......if you know what I mean 😁

  • @martinkeast9016
    @martinkeast9016 Před 8 lety

    The shaft is tappered and has a slot for a woodruf key but the there isn't a key in the pulley wheel.

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  Před 8 lety

      that's right. No key. Hasn't got one unlike the Lucas pumps.

    Hi there. I can't seems to find the pin slot on my fly wheel. I don't think there is one. Iv rotated the crank over an over again. But I can't see it. Is it safe to check the timing just by holding the crank at tdc mark. Because my pin hole on the pump seems to be at the 10 o'clock position. And on your videos it seems to be at the 11 o'clock Ish position. Or is it best to remove the timing plate an check that way. Brilliant videos by the way. Great help thanks

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  Před 10 lety

      Hi you may have a 2.5 NAD flywheel which doesn't have the TDC timing marks. Timing the pump on a 2.5 / 2.5 Td is totally different.
      You have TDC markers on the crank pulley for both the 200tdi and 300tdi and corresponding marker on the timing case front cover.
      Recently we had reports from a guy who has the TDC marker was out from the the flywheel slot and front pulley this was due to the keyway being damaged and the pulley had slipped around slightly making the whole issue confusing so be very aware of this..... it happens.
      I would advise to remove the timing from cover and set the crank and cam with the markers on the timing gear to get it as close as possible if you are not sure.

    Thank god I found this, I did the timing belt a few weeks ago and I think I have retarded the timing a little as i have lost a little power and seem to have a more brownish/greyish smoke as opposed to the black sooty overfueling smoke from before.

    hay I've got a 300tdi and need to take the pump off for servicing, how do I lock the pump shaft off? because the 300 pump doesn't have the locking nut and spacer any help would be much appreciated thanks.

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  Před 8 lety

      yeah basically the plate was a transport looking device. Was done away with on later pumps. No idea what sort of servicing you are intending to do on the pump but you may want to go and talk with someone who reconditions those sort rotary pumps.

      +Land Rover Toolbox Videos err I've dropped a bollock. I followed you video but when I removed the cover plate to fit the support the 3 bolt holes are at the extreme end of the adjustment the bolts just won't catch the threads. and I carnt figure out what I've done wrong any ideas?

    so with that in mind assuming that the engine the auxiliary and pump pulleys are aligned where should the shaft of the pump using the key slot as a reference be positioned 😆

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  Před 8 lety

      As a reference but it need to be set up correctly which is a PITA. Problem there is no reference points to get an exact setting without using Bosch specialist tools unfortunately.
