    A magnificent review (as always!) and a very intriguing lens indeed!
    I’m very pleased to see a new, affordable, fast and sharp contender in the wide angle lineup.
    Thank you very much for your work, I look forward to seeing more from this lens!

    Good video and I appreciate your honest first impressions, I have yet to find myself in a situation that I need a lens wider than 16mm (I have the XF16 f/2.8), so far I only got native Fuji lenses, primes and zooms, I would consider buying this lens as a novelty (something different to play with) but from the get go, not being able to reverse the lens hood, believe it or not, is a deal breaker for me, I like to reverse it and put the lens cap on when not using the camera. If I was a professional this wouldn't be an issue, but as an amateur/hobbyist I like toys that work the way that I want them to. The other issue that you mentioned is the manual focusing scale, that’s another no for me. I understand about the very low price as you mentioned, but it’s also true that you get what you pay for. Thank you for making and sharing the video. Be well and stay safe.

      I just got this lens today and I own the manual focus version too. What I immediately noticed was the lens is super sharp and much more contrasty than the old version. The weather sealing certainly helps and build quality is now more mature. Personally, I prefer the af over the older version on which I struggle with infinity as well as poor lens caps

      I think the build quality is better in the manual focus version as it is all metal but I still like this new version. I agree on the sharpness, it is surprisingly sharp

    I have a problem with this lens. Sometimes when I turn on the camera, or when I'm in the photo album or in the setup menu, and then go back to the shooting screen, there's a flicker (aperture opening/closing) for a few seconds and then back to normal. Have you had a similar situation?

    • @LucaPetraliaPhotography

      Yes I did, I forgot to mention this in the video

    I would be very interested to see a video sample taken with this lens in the same environment of your workplace with the same light, especially at fully open aperture. I want to see how much it blurs the background in similar environment, how contrast is the lens and how it affects skintone.

    The manual version is highly praised, I'm curious if this will have identical image quality or if it has changed in some way

      @LucaPetraliaPhotography  Před 2 lety +1

      They say the optical formula is the same, with better coatings. I'll dig further into the image quality but I think it is probably a tad better than the manual focus version

    Curious to know if it would work for astrophotography? Not too many very wide fast X mount lens out there

    Da prime impressioni sembra una buona lente WR e dal giusto costo . Mi sa che sarà la prima lente non originale Fuji da prendere

    Had this lens for a week or two.The Samyang js nowhere near Zeiss 12mm in build quality ;plastic vs metal.Performance wise at 2.8 Zeiss beat the crap of this Samyang in the color, corners and certainly when it come to f!air resistance.It is a budget option but not to mix up with Zeiss.

    • @LucaPetraliaPhotography
      @LucaPetraliaPhotography  Před 2 lety +2

      The Zeiss is hollow metal and crappy rubber focusing ring. On top of that the aperture ring turns by just looking at it. I've had the Zeiss for a long time, I liked the image quality, but construction wise I've never liked it at all, considering its price. For a 1,000$ lens I want it to scream quality, and the Zeiss doesn't do it.
      The Samyang, on the other hand, despite being mainly made of plastic feels more solid and well made.
      As always everything is subjective, especially if there's no scientific ways to measure what we say.
      From an image quality standpoint I still have to test the Samyang thoroughly, so I can't speak for it right now.
      As I said, I liked the image quality coming out of the Zeiss, but it is not flawless either.

      @@LucaPetraliaPhotography Mine copy has same aperture ring like most of Fujifilm f1.4 primes, not stiff but also not to loose and Samyang has none (build upon Sony version unfortunately).Hollow is hollow if it is metal or plastic and have to say that I have to admit that some items like lens hoods are on both lenses peace of crap.On Zeiss it is some loose and get stiffer with heat outside , while on Samyang you have to use force to remove it and I can only imagine when it get hot or cold how stiff it is going ro be.Other point is that I had feeling that hood on Samyang is kind of useless. Zeiss is also not perfect especially at small aperture when more of diffraction kicks in, has better color reproduction (no yellowish Samyang tint) and corner sharpness as far as one copy can tell anything.I decided to keep Zeiss, since I bought one few years ago for 550 euro (that crap of a lens cap was missing).
