I used to wrestle a 180kg, kick-start, DR650 around on dual and single tracks. That was grueling enough. The last thing I'd have thought was "If only I had an additional 130hp and 90kgs"
I'd rather something like an FJR1300 and a DRZ400, or whichever combo of sport tourer/dual purpose bike was available.
A "perfect" adventure bike needs to come from a company that supports right to repair and that makes self diagnosis, maintenance and repair easy and affordable.
It's called a KLR
Why ? Is there any companies that prevent self diagnosing and maintaining your own bike ?? 😅🤣
@@BRABUS64 absolutely, Ducati, BMW, KTM make it difficult if not impossible to clear codes after certain services. Try figuring out how to get the hardware and software needed to reset desmo service light on a 2013 Multistrada for example.
Sounds like a triumph. A simple obd reader let's me clear any codes that show up
Right to repair, self diagnosis, maintenance and repair easy and affordable bike is called a 🚲 bicycle...
Recently been on tour with 2 mates who have v4 Multi's I was on my 1250 GS. I was getting 55,60 mpg, both V4's got 36/38 all travelled at the same speeds and distance together!! just our observation!!
Interesting! So the manufacturers figures play out in the real world!
but they probably had a lot more fun !😅
@@markstrawbridge9133 No but had more exercise, Getting their wallets out!!!
My 2021 MS V4S gets anywhere between 25-42 US MPG, living in the prairies wind has a huge effect as well as how spirited the ride is. But lets keep in mind that the MS is an Italian supermodel and not a tractor - you pay to ride.
@@barney3417 the cost of fuel equals out when you consider that the GS has to stop at every Starbuck's along the way for a non-fat Mocha Latte!!! 😆
Love your videos Bob! The only channel I go to get a good understanding and opinion on all the bikes that interest me. You have them all. Keep up the great job.
Thanks RR! Appreciate the support
I would still buy the Rally. I had a big 1250 GSA and sold it for a Ducati 1260 Enduro; just more snap/crackle & pop. The rally, offers more of what’s great about the Multi V4 - and that unique ‘pan America lowering magic’ is the closer for me. Flat footed at a traffic light on a Ducati Multi? Here, take my money.
Also own a 1260 Enduro but will wait for the used market for the V4 Rally
I going from a Harley Roadking and really like the Multistrada Rally with all of the features. Weight and fuel consumption wasn't the first thing that came to mind. I like the chain drive and the long intervals for the serving
Seriously though, who's getting 392 miles on their GSA? (certainly none of the five GSA riders I ride with) I regularly get @310 on mine but not much more. I'm assuming these are BMW quoted figures (i.e. eco mode on a rolling road in a controlled environment 🤣). Love the videos keep'em coming👍
My ex 1200 multi v2 enduro also had a 30l tank and good mpg.... fantastic machine ...v4 rally look fabulous but hard to justify against older enduro ..blind spot radar and acc are a great addition for safety....
My V4S sport gets meh gas mileage ( about 34 mpg), but the performance and features make it the fastest super fun "dad bike" I have ever owned.
I've ordered the duke, have a tex at the moment, but love pure performance of the v4 -sportsbike speeds with old man comfort, and not the bike you see everywhere unlike the boxer
Thanks for the informative and fluid video. Good job MotoBob..:)
Top content, like always.
Definitely an improvement on range for sure but who in the real world wants to ride 300 miles without a stop ..... not me I'm happy with my 22 litre gas guzzler V4 Travel. There have its fair to say been a few software upgrades which have enhanced the comfort. But honestly its the best all round bike that I own. Safe riding !!
Would the new MPG be kinda indicated if the Co2 emissions are different between the Rally and the current model. Just a thought
Every strike I had against this bike is now gone. I can see myself getting an oil change at the dealership on my 2023 Tiger GTE and coming home with this.
perfect for me with the min preload function
I would save some money and just buy the Multistrada Enduro. I’ve had a couple and they are great bikes.
The problem with the GS is that every man, his dog and his dog’s mates have got one. Silly, I know, but there it is. I am a somewhat biased Ducati fan, I admit, so if it was me buying then it would be the Triumph !
Final drive still chain? Missed that bit. Multi Rally has some very interesting, advanced features though I always found the lowest weight of the GS engine a major advantage. Harder to upset . As long as your tyres had good grip, bike was very stable, lot of fun riding on the throttle.
‘82 Tiger Trail 750 was excellent despite people saying it was too heavy and had no suspension travel. Key asset was the gearing ratio via large rear cog,
the GS/GSA has that Telelever front suspension too and that was a huge influence for me - love the magic carpet ride and the stability. Also the fuel range. Waiting on delivery of a GSA with all the fruit (except luggage), hopefully arriving in a few days
In South Africa the BMW still out sell all the other Adventure bikes by far. The BMW still the most comfortable bike. In South Africa there are many BMW dealers so you are always near a dealer but Ducati and Triumph not. Makes you think which bike rather to buy.
If you can afford the Ducati, then you can also pay for the petrol easily. Great bike👍🏻
You can only pay for petrol when there is a gas station. Not always the case if you take the road less traveled. Also a huge pita to have to stop when your riding buddies still have miles of range left
GS is still king for holding its value and for that reason I bought a used 1260 Enduro :) I think the name Ducati still makes some people nervous which means better deals on the used market.
Great video Motobob, just one thing can you please put the economy figures in mpg as well? Keep up the good work!
He gave range in miles so he kind of did...
Why as an adventure bike are all the front mudguards so low? The minute they see mud they are in trouble. Do any of them offer height adjustments to the front mudguard, kind of like the windscreen?
Not that I’m interested in buying one, they are all way to heavy
They aren't really dirt bikes, the best you can hope for is unsealed roads and sandy areas.
I LOVE the extended cylinder deactivation feature~ I live in Las Vegas & it gets quite hot here~ having those rear two cylinders off would help a lot in traffic driving. I wonder when the feature kicks on and off~ is it RPM or speed governed?
Not much info in the press release about it to be honest. It’s amazing how much it varies by manufacturer - BMW give you a full 30 page PDF for each bike for example, Triumph give you an online briefing in advance. Ducati are a little light on the technicalities though…
@@motobob that's the italian charm.
I would be willing to bet that it is governed by throttle opening % as opposed to speed or rpm.
@@motobob I don't believe ANYTHING until YOU review it!!! Thank you~
How is it that Honda can make a 1200cc 173hp V4 with no heat issues.
I’m surprised that the KTM 1290 super adv is never mentioned in these comparisons..arguably the most capable for off road adventure ..I’ll concede the duke is the best looking .But my money this year went on a new GS and I couldn’t be happier
The regular Multi V4 is a competitor for the KTM. Surely they specifically built this Rally to take on the GSA and Tiger 1200?
Having had three GSs, the last a 1250 GSA, they are no use for the average rider off road, this Multi is even worse. 99% of riders stick to the road where 200 miles is fine for touring. I swapped in my GSA for a Multi V2S (950cc) and haven’t regretted it, just as comfortable, lighter, lower and faster and does 50 to the gallon, a hell of a lot less money too.
Agree with these sticking to the pavement BUT... getting an extra 100mi of range if worth it if you ask me. Helps plan a trip for what you want to see vs needing to make sure there is a gas station along the way. Love the V2s but in the end I bought a used 1260 Enduro for 10k under original MSRP with only 6000mi on her.
You often show clips of riding a gravel road in South Wales. What’s it called and whereabouts is it. Many thanks.
The Manmoel pass - just going north through a village called Manmoel. It’s only short fairly and it’s super easy, but it makes for some nice shots. Also it’s a marked road, not a byway. So no debates on access
I would call it the perfect 'upright sports touring' bike. (owner of a 2020 1260 Enduro)
I went and took a test ride on the rally…..DAMN… incredible….it’s my next bike. Puts the others to shame!! It’s exciting to ride… makes the others feel like slugs. I’m holding off for hopefully less than a year and going for it. I think it’s worth the wait.
Much better 😮
I picked the last 1260 enduro. Love it. Reduced the weight by 11kg with full termignoni exhaust and added 8hp. Range over 650km. You either love Ducati’s, hate them or can’t afford them. Paying $23k then moaning about the range is like buying a V8 car and moaning about the cost to fuel it.
I owned 2 Ducati bikes and am over the cost or parts and servicing. Nice bikes, but overpriced in every way.
@@onecookieboy sorry to hear that I’ve owned 5 and always found the service cost reasonable for the quality.
@@communistgreyman2078 I did a lot of service work myself and TBH I thought the parts were way overpriced for what they were, also desmo valves, I know they are/were a Ducati 'thing' but they should have dropped them years ago because there is simply no reason for them (from an engineering perspective).
I wish you'd included the KTM 1290S, great review though, the ducati was striked off my list due to the mpg
The GSA have the good mileage, the DMR the best Safety and Sporting features, the TT have something from both of them. The decision is pretty hard. I am going ending up with a GSA I guess, but I love the DMR. It’s driving me crazy. I don’t want to mess this up.
Will it support air-to-air refueling?
Sorry but a IFRP is not a stock option and will need to be added
most important thing to know is that i can't afford it, or justify spending so much money on a weekend toy
Was the same with v4s which is why I bought the 1260s instead insurance was £700 for 1260 & £1200 for v4 . With fuel it starts to add up over time. Bikes are all starting to creep up towards price of a small car
Unfortunately motorcycle makers arent building affordable now.Car prices now..
Wait didn't the 1290 get setup to 180hp for the 2023 year line up?
Not that I know of mate. Where did you read that?
@@motobob their duke has 180hp it seems. My b. Ktm's stunt rider just showed it off.
I luv it!
A liquid cooled motor at a stop light will not benefit from rear cylinder activation, just emissions. Cruising though, it would help mileage and emissions
I would go for Desert X
Triumph is still my choice of the three.
52K In Australia. I had the Multistrada enduro, beautiful. Well I have to this, full spec
I’d rather have a GS and save £4000
Why the KTM 1290 R is out of the comparison ? It has the adaptive cruise contrôle and plays in the same league tmho
Was thinking the same. Was mentioned once in the video then never again....
Because the V4 Rally is specifically targeting the other 30L bikes. The regular Multi V4 is a fair comparison already with the KTM
The gas-guzzling nature of that V4 is still its Achilles heel.
Only for those that care about fuel mileage that much. The bike performs so well that I just ride it and smile the entire time. It's that good. If I want to worry about fuel range in the future, I'll sell it and buy something more boring to ride.
Rockets need fuel. 170 hp bikes don't get to those numbers sipping fuel
@@davehemmerly8496 well I am not one that is complaining about mileage, but to counter your argument the KTM SA makes 160hp and can run neck and neck with the MTS V4 and gets better fuel mileage. It also comes with a slightly larger fuel tank for even more added range. Again, I'm good with the V4 but there are companies that can make high Hp with decent economy.
Definitely
probably uses fuel to cool the engine. Also friction loss from four cylinders.
Beautiful ❤️❤️👌
Everyone thinks Indians are not welcome here
Gs 1250 came about in 2019 and still wipes the floor with the competition . looking forward to the 1300. the competition just copy and bmw innovate so the competition is always a step behind.
Wipes the floor? I am guessing you own one... lol
@@NorCalSaint Ducati expensive shite on fuel ktm like riding a jackhammer Africa twin underpowered and overpriced tiger 1200 is the next best thing nowadays
And I own a 2018 tiger 800xca
@@DaleMt09sp - Just sold my 2018 Africa Twin AS and bought a 2020 1260 Enduro and it is a better bike in every way IMO. As a taller rider is is the perfect upright sports touring bike... Don't think I would ever buy a new Ducati but deals to be had on the used market.
@@NorCalSaint I’m 6-3 so adventure bikes are the most practical I love this 800 just needs a bit more go
Yeah mostly cause the ride view was filmed in the Horizons of Maasai in Kenya.
chain driven?
I thought i finally found a bike that was a worthy opponent to my R1250GS and If it was'nt for the gas consumption i would probably have switched from my GS 1250 to a Multistrada V4S.. But for now i will keep the German Cow - I hate that i like the BMW so much...
Now it's time to look forward to the r1300gs
I pick my new s1000r. I tried an R1250GS rallye for 3 months and about 4500 miles but the weight and 19” front wheel just didn’t do it for me. I thought at almost 50 years old it was time to stop riding like a hooligan…I was wrong 😅😅
Still in doubt between Tiger Rally Explorer and V4 Rally 😁🏍🤙
I was set on the Tiger 1200 also until I read the captions towards the end of this video...
czcams.com/video/crjtjRumiFI/video.html
is my question too, I believe that Triumph has more international technical support and easier maintenance. Thanks for watching and commenting! 😁🏍🤙
A new Super Tenere is long overdue. Hopefully, the new GSA will get a 21” option and drop some weight.
GS will not get a 21" front... Most owners never see dirt and BMW knows this
Why do you not mention the 4 year unlimited mileage warranty and much longer service intervals on the Ducati. Cost of ownership should be part of every review.
Italian beauty
Italian poser
30L tank means you now only have fill up every other petrol station ;-)
Best I’ve done is 500km range on my gsa
I love Ducati but the GSA is tried and true. A lot less expensive.
Ducati Rally 100%
My tyre supplier traded his due to poor fuel consumption he's now got a GC1250
Well shld have worked upon the enduro
200 plus miles to a tank is good for any bike, you want to stop and stretch out your legs, even at 150 to 170 miles on the standard MSV4.
It's much nicer to stop somewhere with a nice view or something interesting to see than having to stop at a gas station, they all look the same.
Why... !! Why!! Ducati doesn't make a versión with 21" front.. 18" rear tyre to compite side bye side agains KTM Super adv. R!! with longer suspention ! ?
Because they make the desert x maybe
@@twinwheels4717 it is another leve!! Or segment so the desert x doesn't match in the segment of the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R..!! The DesertX matches well agains the 890 Adventure R !
You forget to compare with 1290 Adv S!!!!😮
I think Ducati have a new tagline. Ducati …. Sounds Expensive
Honda Crosstourer is the perfect adventure bike, it would have 173hp and a great bottom end if only Honda had put variable valve timing in.
Windscreen is to far forward from what I have seen so I am guessing it suffers from the same wind buffeting I used to get on my Africa Twin
Buying an expensive Ducati is easy but selling it for a decent price is very difficult so keep that in mind. By the way they are all 3 to heavy, overpowered, to big...just my opinion
I don’t find Spec readers useful in evaluating a bike. Sounds like an add for the bike not an evaluation. Some credit should be given for the comparison data but it ends there. The video portion is Ducati Film, no education in that.
Ktm 1290 adv R
Since when most adventure became to drive straight most heavy, most biggest, most expensive motorcycles?
I stopped video when I heard "its a thirsty beast"
😮…😍😍😍😍
Everyone myself included is begging for lighter adv bikes. Ive owned a multistrada and rented GS’s before. Last year i bought a KTM890 adv R. Loving it and never miss the extra 40hp of the bigger bikes. That said, an even lighter bike even if it means 20-30 less hp would be fantastic. Im a mechanical engineer in product development so i have a realistic understanding of how hard weight reduction is. Knowing that, i wish manufacturers would follow what’s been happening with camping gear… 20 years ago a nice backpacking tent cost $150 in 2022 dollars and weighed 5lbs. You can still buy that kind of tent but all the premium brands now offer 3lb or less tents for $350 even $600 because people are willing to spend top dollar for performance. Wouldn’t it be great if Honda made a reliable africa twin 800 ‘hyperlight’ for $25k with titanium pipes, magnesium cases like ducati and carbon bits. Keep it just under 380lbs, but with honda reliability and reasonable service intervals. Who cares if it only has 75hp if its LIGHT! People are already heavily modding KTM500s to squeeze out 1000 mile oil changes etc. all just to get a light high performance adv bike. they are easily into the mid $20k’s with those builds.
Definitely worth the 23k
Perfect if you can afford it hahaha
😂😂 better off with a camel, at least you could eat the camel when it dies!😂😂
No fuel gauge & no shaft drive.. yes Multi is the perfect Adv.
As long gas consumption is fixed then, yes... its perfect bike (despite 30l tank).... Price is only far from perfect.... jeeezzz
MTS V 4 $ of course ...gs is old project
Only runs on 2 cylinders at slower speeds? Forget it.
Just checked 10g/km less….. maybe she won’t be as thirsty 😂
The Multistrada actually looks ugly now. What did they do to it?........Sal : )
The Ducati is a lot of bike alas for a lot of money and a lot of things that can go wrong with it. I mean seriously what use is 170 horses on a bike like that. It should be more about torque than hp.
You obviously have never ridden one or you would know.
@@revilok8698 you are right I haven’t
Who actually buys a std spec gs?
When the new one arrives this year, next year it will definitely be more expensive.
Not gonna give you a new tech bike for 2021 prices
So polish your white shoei flip up,wash that hi viz polite vest when you visit the Ducati dealership.
Wait 10 years for the recall on your shaftdrive that they deny any customers have had any issues with and all the other bm bs.
Could always go orange, the future is orange 😂
The low rev/slow speed rear cylinder cut out has only just landed on the diavel so when you're watching this from 5months ago
Questions shall be answered.
No it isn’t better than the GS
So, Ducati puts a massive tank on top of a multi, making it more top heavy, less stable at low speed which is what you want off-road, increasing fuel consumption by increasing weight plus that sky high price... nah.
You have no idea what the fuel consumption is as of yet. Have you even calculated how much extra weight there will be? Is it enough for the bike to even notice? Nice try keyboard warrior! LMAO!
@@revilok8698 Lmfao obvious troll get a life
BMW can go further, better, less problematic way. why would you want a tourer which has a drinking problem. ?
You need to do better research.
Amongst these three bikes I’d certainly pick Hayabusa, what about you?
Super Tenere
My new 3rd Gen Busa is getting delivered in 12 hours from now.

Nope. Chain drive.
No, fuel economy sucks
it's faster and more expensive to own. it's certainly not better.
