Running into TrU as a child.
"Which toy do I choose?!"
Walking into Target/Walmart as an adult.
"Do they EVER restock this shit?!"
đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
More like why would I want any of this junk. Going into toy r us or hills in the 80s used to be overwhelming
Not often enough, still waiting for more GIJOE figures to hit the shelves. HEMAN is overwhelmed. Star Wars and GIJOE need to keep up in these stores.
That's what happens when consumption outpaces production. There are more puchases per capita now than there were then not only because we buy more but we consider more stuff disposable because it's cheaper relative to income. Unfortunately the population and size of the planet doesn't increase to accomodate rapidly growing production at the same rate as consumption. Just like mass production was necessary in the industrial revolution, advances in AI and people allowing robots to replace factory workers will be necessary to reset the shortage clock for another century.
@@nevaehstarrojas3918 "He-Man is overwhelmed" . Sure is different from early 2000s when all we could find were the sh*tty "Spin-Blade" varients and no Sorceress or Teela because according to Mattel: "Uhhh, durr..girls don't play with action figures" (nevermind that girl heroes such as Buffy, Xena, and Kimberly the original pink ranger were popular not too long before that. And boys would've played with those toys... can't collect the MMPR team if you leave out two of em , after all!)
Product: *Clearly not intended for a child, and clearly listed as such*
Florida Moms: "How *dare* they expose my child to this evil product!"
The distribution and presentation probably should've been handled differently. Place them on separate shelves in a Mature section of the toy store or something. Don't stick them right next to MOTU and Pokemon. Or just don't send to toy stores at all.
This is the reason we have to deal with coppas bullshit
Also Florida moms: Now come, children, to your weekly dose of indoctrination where we tell you a book full of murder and incest is luuuuuuuv
The classic "i cant be bothered to interact with my kid and tell them about a show/movie meant for adults so ill create an outrage and have the thing removed"
Those early Parens damned near shut down Hanna-Barbera back in the day.
And yes, I did combine "Parents" with "Karens". Feel free to use that one.
My father had rifles and pistols but we never touched them. My father explained and demonstrated the damage the weapons could do. We played with lawn darts, I had s knife and use to whittle. We survived.
I dont think they had a problem with the toys existing it was the fact they were at kaybee toy stores which were very kiddish looks
I swear, I don't know how many times I had such a talk with my mom. Mostly with Violent games but still it amazes me some parents can't do that.
@@derekwallace3871 i am sure he picked the time and place that it was appropiate to teach u that stuff as well. Not just done half heartedly because a toy store forced the issue on you. Me personally i taught my daughter to ask about stuff she doesnt know. I also dont want to lie to her. Her asking me about an adult show at a kids toy store is neither time nor place for me to explain to her about breaking bad. I mean as a child i should be able to take her to a toy store and not expect to half to explain drug and drug use to her on a day we going to get her activity books to teach her long division.
"They caught us selling Breaking Bad action figures at Toys R Us! Better Call Saul!"
Better call saul indeed đ€Łđ€Ł
Lol yes!! I seriously thought it was a joke meant for the thumbnail at first.
I remember picking up breaking bad figures, the last day I went in Toys R Us
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Ya i believe Toys R Us went out of business in Maryland! Maybe not all of them? I go to ebayđLol đ
I miss toy stores. Makes me sad that my kids wonât experience the fun and joy of the toy store
So true đą
There used to be a toy store in my local mall. Unfortunately, a new shopping center closed most of the mall down, including the toy store. For years, the spot sat vacant... Suddenly, another toy store appeared. For a few months. Around Christmas. Then, it moved out. ;_; Priorities??
Me sad
Me too
I remember the first toy store I ever went to as a little girl. Playworld and I remember it was right next door to another famous Colorado landmark , Casa Bonita
I do remember another MacFarlane toy being banned : Sin City's Marv on the electric chair.
Oh yeah that one didnât go down to well with kids playing executioner đ
I remember seeing a Kevin action figure with a sledgehammer in a local bookstore. They supplied yoyos, Wii and ps2 and PSP games and even had a demo kiosk. When I got my first Wii in 2017, I first started stocking up on games that I saw back there on the shelves, like Cooking Mama and Zack&Wiki.
I think the Burger King Pokémon recall was just an excuse for poor parental supervision.
Indeed đ€
Also.... why not just add a smalle hole in both parts
Right! I remember this recall and I remember doing this exact thing even before I knew it was dangerous. I think I even still have the toy that came in the pokeball lol

Now, enjoy the Katana and Sai action"
@matt fahringer they have thankfully I remember a friend had a set of real nun-chucks we all thought he was super cool and bad ass
@matt fahringer đ
I think Robin William's did a bit where he mocked the recall on the Spark Skate Barbie doll, Something about the news announcer saying "This doll seems harmless, but what if she were made to skate through a puddle of gasoline?" "I store all my gas cans in my daughters room" I know I'm off with the quotes, but you get the drift.
đ€Łđ€Ł thatâs awesome
Thats a Bill Engvall joke
@@thetxaggie6575 Thanks for clearing that up. Three comedians I use to listen to, Robin Williams Bill Engvall and George Carlin. I knew for sure it wasn't Carlin, but I missed the 50/50 on that one.
Yeah it was Bill. lol the best part was when he said âwhat if Barbie had a hand grenade? What are you talkin about?!â
@@BrennanBarrier With all the careers that Barbie's had, I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't have a hand grenade at this point. Lol
Back in the 80s, my brother and I had these small red & green clear plastic guns that had metal triggers and internal parts. When you pulled the trigger, sparks would light up inside... And when you would rapidly pull the trigger over and over, sometimes they would get small smoldering fires inside. It's amazing they made some of these toys without any thought of children burning their homes down.
They still sell those here in New Zealand haha even the $2 shops have them so you could imagine how dangerous those things aređ
You just woke my nostalgia. We had those guns too!
@@korvus1248 so deadly, so fun.

I was a '60s kid, we survived our dangerous toys.
Oh yeah đ€đ€
The reason toy recalls, age ratings, and products liability warnings exist today is because so many kids got hurt or killed in the 60s and 70s, and THEIR parents sued. YOU survived. Plenty of other kids didn't.
@@ajm5007 good point and well said
@matt fahringer I'm not the one who filed the lawsuits. Parents from the 60s and 70s did. Blame them, not me. I'm just informing you of the facts.
@matt fahringer Sad that you don't even know what a Karen is
It's amazing how any of us ever survived the 80's and 90's. Apparently going to the toy store was like russian roulette. đ

@@EdsRetroGeekOut They should have done something else with the spark shooting feature on certain toys.
You know, I remember seeing Austin Powers figures in the toy section of a supermarket back in the day and even as a kid I thought "why are they selling these as kids toys?"
đ€Ł theyâre probably really looked outta place there compared to now where most toystores have more neca than mattel toys
Ultimately Zartan became much more popular, due to his original file card it already made an edgy cool figure even cooler because of the controversy...
Cool đ€
Iâm sure you hear this all the time, but the fact that you only have like 29k subscribers is mind boggling. Far and away the best toy channel on CZcams
Thanks buddy, the numbers will come when they come I guess đ€
I agree! He is one of the most fun & diverse toy reviewers & through him we see stuff from other continents! I learned of him through a certain Legendary Laura up north. SO maybe we should all share the toy love (& not in a way as to ban us lol)!
This is a *great* channel! I really like âToy Galaxyâ! (Warning: Functional Half-Brain required to enjoy the fantastically witty, written dialogue). Pixel Dan and Fwoosh are excellent too!
Im not surprised. He covers very surface level stuff that most collectors already know. Hes not breaking any new ground. Just repeats info. Not to mention there are countless other manchildren making retro 80s toy videos.
WOW. He edits as well as Ask Mojo, but the content is actually good.
I don't ever remember the spark feature being a concern. The G1 Transformers line had many figures with the sparking feature. The Sparkbots and Monsterbots come to mind. I think paranoia sparked ;) the controversy with no incidents.
I love how this started with the jumbo Shogun Warrior Dragun, which i have.
And I was under the assumption all transfromers had the all spark đ
@@EdsRetroGeekOut *drum shot
To be honest, It actually tried to "light" quite some stuffs as a kid with my Saurod action figure but never succeded.
Thereâs apparently cold sparks đ€
@@EdsRetroGeekOut My parents must be thankful for this.
I worked at Target when they had us pull all the Talking Freddy Krueger Dolls off the shelves.
Yeah freddy should have stuck to nightmares even the max fx thing got cancelled due to them starting out woth freddy
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Right! I had one of those, but I didn't pick it up in a store. That was found second hand somewhere, don't remember where.
Then Pee Wee Happened that was a florida thing too
Transformers G1 Monsterbots, Sparkabots and Firecons all shot sparks. These were considered safe as they were "cold sparks".
Awesome đ€
Don't forget the " exploding Death Star " toy from Taco Bell!!!!
I had a toy gun as a kid called the "Razer Ray Gun". It shot out sparks pretty far and made a cool noise. The sparks didn't hurt at all if you put your hand in front of the gun, but my little bitch cousin swore I hurt him with them and got me in trouble.
I am always amazed at banned toys. One that I'm sure you have heard of is from The Barbie Line-Pregnant Midge. She was accepted on the East coast but the Bible belt would have none of it and the dolls were taken back to the factory. Their magnet pregnant bellies thrown away and the little newborn and Midge were repackaged. The original doll had a permanent wedding band, painted on panties and a back story of a husband and a little son already as part of this growing family. I do show and tells in Pre-K and I can tell you, even the biggest fidget doesn't take his eyes off this show and tell!
I loved the smell of the sparks from old toys, have not smelled it in 30 years but remember it well
Those smells take you back in time đ
The barbie skates actually had cigarette lighter flints that's how they sparked. And the were not recalled in Australia as they were everywhere.
About those spark shooting toys:
There were also the Transformers Firecons (in 1988)
Sparkbots or something like that too. I would LOVE some Euro G2 firecons, but they crumble.
The Monsterbots and Sparkbots had the features as well.
They change the Barbie name to 'Arsonist Barbie'. Now that's marketing!
I remember a Salem cat doll from Sabrina the teenage witch show, that had a pull to speak feature.
Among the things it would say was... "Worship Me!"
Went back to store three days later to show a friend, and they were all gone, and so were all shelf tags.
Don't know if it got banned or recalled. Always wondered.
đ€ interesting
Yeah, I know many Christians parents wouldn't like that!
Maybe they just sold out
I always loved the spark toys from the 90sđ
I had the human toy Saurod. I think it still sparks
I forgot about the rgb one. Storm from the og x men line
@matt fahringer it's just a basic flint/steel system, similar to a lighter. Few years ago my parents moved out of my childhood home and I took some boxes of toys from the attic. I'd have to check. Its in my attic now. For some reason I swear it still sparked.
@matt fahringer I guess a few things could go bad. I know for sure it still made the sound, so the mechanical system was still intact. Flint is only good until you've shaved it all off, but the steel portion could rust and deteriorate overtime and not make contact with the flint.
Letâs not forget about the Al Snow WWF action figure that came with a mannequin head & was accused of promoting domestic abuse
@matt fahringer Iâd watch the heck out of that!
As if picking fights and beating each other up isn't abusive in general.
People apparently want to protect their kids they just can't be bothered with telling them not to stick toys in their mouths, etc.
Indeed đ€Šââïž
I still have my ninja action tmnt figures from the 90s .. it was still "ninja" in the Uk by the time i got mine.

I got the Walter White figure at Toys R Us right before they closed. Figure came with a hand gun, sack of cash and hidden behind the feet was a bag of âmethâ. Very cool figure.

The Moral of this video.. If you don't want to talk to your kids about something. Start a petition and ban it . So since Pokemon sounds like Poker Man and I don't want to talk to my kids about gambling. PETITION :P
In the older Pokémon games there was slot machines, but in the remake it was replaced with a new mini game. So someone did complain about Pokémon and gambling :P
When I watch this, I canât help but think of the old SNL sketch with Dan Aykroyd, where he plays a sleazy toy company CEO, trying to defend unsafe toys like âBag Oâ Broken Glassâ LOL! Itâs a classic. đ
No way! I had that Ken version of the Rollerblade Barbie. I loved that toy! Never got hurt once and I played with it for years: watching those rollerblades spark was so awesome! Had no idea they were banned...

Some of these are crazy stories Ed. McFarlane Toys caused a couple of controversies with Toys R Us. I love Bryan Kranston's tweet about burning his Florida Mom figure. First Angela figures without panties l didn't notice till you toy fare or some magazine mentioned it đČ
I'd forgotten about the "mass market" variations of the Austin Powers figures, aside from Fat Bastard being "Fat Man" in Toys R Us stores.
That Barbie thing was definitely odd-like you said, most boy's toy lines had sparking or working caps in them. Even Transformers had half a dozen spark "fire" breathing toys!
Oh yeah the caps in the robocop toys đ€©
Barbie also had that talking one that got pulled for being sexist when she said "Math is hard". There may have been other pulled Barbie's as well...
Lawn darts. Those things actually impaled a couple of kids before people realized that , "Hey. maybe handing children sharp things that are meant to be thrown AND letting them use these things under lackluster at best adult supervision is a bad idea!"
Yeah i had them in the previous banned toys video đ€đ those were dangerous indeed
The best history is toy history. It's so fun to see how children of old played, the trends that were popular, and the hit/miss toy that was either iconic or forgotten with time.
Banned toys! my favorite topic!
Hopefully i can find some more đ€
When I was a kid we loved to eat Aqua Dots but then one day they just took them off the market for no apparent reason. I was so distraut I shook for weeks, and couldn't sleep.
Dam that ghostbusters toy can light a cigarette đŹ who made it zippo?
Kenner đ lights up your action like never before
there's also 6 transformers that can do that too
All clever cigarette marketing.
I had the Zartan figure. I only remember him changing color and having different faces.
When you mentioned the Austin Powers toyline, I thought you were going to mention how they changed the name of the "Fat Bastard" figure to "Fat Man"
I didnât know that đ€Ł
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Yeah, it's the figure where he's in the Scottish attire with bag pipes. It has his name on the bottom left corner of the card. eBay has one to check (tried to post the link but it got deleted here)
Roller Blade Barbie wasnt recalled before it caused issues, a little girl went up in flames. She had a ton of hairspray on (90's hair...) and the sparks caused her to go up in flames. There is even footage from a court hearing, showing how dangerous the doll was and how easily it started fires. Saurod on the other hand used different metals and the sparks that came out of him were far too cold temperature wise to cause ignition. What's weird is Saurod came out BEFORE Rollerblade Barbie, so why this ever happened is a mystery.
Yeah and mattel would have had acces to the same technology so đ€
They should have banned those aerosols cans faster
@@RunnerX13 it's not the gasses in the cans that make hairspray flammable, hairspray itself is. A lot of them use alcohol to speed the drying process.

The description of schizophrenia on Zartan's cardback was all wrong anyway. Schizophrenia does NOT mean the person has multiple personalities. This is a popular misconception.
I collect Gi joe and I have that file card kinda feel special when you know the story behind that fig
It's sad and infuriating that a lot of people still think what schizophrenia means. Schizophrenia more like takes away your personality.
Because a personality is one mind, whereas schizophrenia means "split mind". They should've printed "multiple personality disorder".
There are different types of schizophrenia. Split personality and multiple personality disorder can be factors of schizophrenia. So you're fundamentally wrong
