Thanks for the video! I’m really planning on getting an A7ii in addition the a6400 i already have which is great for video! I rented an A7ii for a gig i had last year and i really enjoyed it. I’ve been shooting for a couple years & I can tell the difference in images between full frame and apsc. A7iii is literally twice the price so A7ii works for me. I just wrote more than i meant to lol but thanks for the video and I’m a new subscriber now 👍🏾
Thanks for watching!
I'm also in the market for a #mirrorlesscamera. I'm running #Canon #EOST7Rebel in my #CZcams videos now. I'm a beginner with this #digitalcamera stuff and being a new #CZcamsr. I was just looking @ the #SonyA7II #camera and wondering if it'll be a good buy. What's your thoughts on this after you subscribe to my channel?
you prolly dont care but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times then you can watch all of the new movies on instaflixxer. Been watching with my girlfriend for the last weeks :)
@Brodie Enrique Definitely, been using Instaflixxer for years myself :)

"Everytime i see this camera it makes me wanna go out"
Oh man, I know that feeling... Me and my wife like travelling but we don't travel as much these days cos of our work.
Having a camera just gives you that time and connection again, I just started my passion for photography a couple of weeks ago and it really makes you get out there and do something productive.
That woodworking analogy got a sub out of me. What a wonderful way of looking at things.
Thank you so much for the kind comment 🙏🏾.
there is a feel of a classic feel too it as well
The best thing for me about moving to a FF body like the A7ii from APS-C was not the usual stuff about the DOF, better low light and all the things you hear on the internet. It was that FF cameras are pro bodies, and that never becomes outdated.
With the A7ii, you have three dials for exposure; shutter, aperture and exposure compensation. Put the ISO into AUTO (so the Exposure comp dial is now a -3 to +3 offset from ‘computed ISO’) and the camera into MANUAL and you have full creative control of the exposure triangle via those three dials; one per corner of the triangle (and you still have full AF).
You can’t do manual exposure as well on an A6xxx or the A7C because they are simply not designed as pro bodies (they assume the user will not miss fast and ergonomic controls for MANUAL and so cheap out on the controls).
I used to think shutter or aperture priority were the best modes, but the mode just described above is far better than either. It’s the mode that really lets you explore photography rather than just ‘’shooting snaps’!
Finally worth noting that high ISO sensitivity in modern cameras is not about 'being able to take photos of black cats on dark nights'; its about being able to leave ISO in auto (and forgetting about it) as part of the above.
I bought an A7ii a few months ago after using an A6500 for a couple of years and some of the other benefits I noticed:
- ISO goes down to 50 - useful in bright conditions
- Shutter speed goes up to 8000 (rather than 4000 in the APC range)
- The viewfinder is much better
- I get proper focal length on my vintage lenses (I like using Canon FD with adapter)
- in general the pictures seem to come out better straight from the camera (I save raw+jpeg and edit raw in Lightroom but find I don't need to spend as much time in post)
I still use the 6500 for video as I like to shoot in UHD
1:36 “Part of me loves the simplicity of the a7ii here” ... Me: “That’s a waffle”
My A7ii sits next to me almost anywhere around the house because I love it as a product so much. I'll pick it up as much as possible so I feel exactly the way you do about it!
I do the same thing. It is really well made.
The Best review of sony a7 ii. This words I wanted to hear and clear some question.
Been watching a bunch of videos on this camera as I wait for mine to arrive in the mail. Yours was the best in terms of the way I think of things and a wonderful outlook on photography.
My heart smiled when you mentioned the 28-75 2.8 🥲🥲 literally just got the a7ii with that lens.. yh in 2021. Works like a charm
Thanks for watching. I am thinking of getting that lens. Let me know how you like it.
thanks bro, loved the simplicity and honesty of the review
You are so right. You are talking about gear as well as mindset in fact :)
Great review buddy! Thank you! I am convinced :D
I just picked this camera up after upgrading from a Canon Rebel T3i and I’m so glad I came across this video. Also I’ve created such amazing work with my Rebel and I’m so excited to do more work with this.
Awesome, I hope you are enjoying the camera.
i love my sony a7 ii def a life changer !!
I love the A7ii. I bought it this year as an upgrade from my old entry level Nikon D3300 and it has been worth every penny. I also bought the Tamron 28-75 and it is an amazing lens for the price. If you are on a budget and want full frame, you cannot go wrong with the A7ii. Thanks for the video
I’m literally in the same position! I’ve had the Nikon d3500 and looking to upgrade to A7ii but debating on getting it. I think i’m just going to end up upgrading in the end😬
Same here 😂 still with a d3300
Thank you for this video. I’m getting into photography and have been eyeing the A7 II. You’ve just told me everything I need/wanted to hear. Here’s to what I hope is a fun and rewarding hobby, and potentially a new line of work lol
I’m so glad this was helpful. Enjoy the new hobby.
thanks for the effort and the sharing. the images at 2:23/2:24 are lovely. thumbs up.
Ur mindset is great kwame.......nice
Thank you bro. I have same camera and was thinking of getting a newer version, but thanks for great explanation.
I'm gonna get one and I did retouch and found this honest review ❤️✌️
Great video, bro. I still have my Sony A7II and have been fighting off the urge to keep up with the tech push. Thanks for this!
Thank you for the comment. I love the image quality of this camera.
Good video man. Subbed.
I just bought it, can't wait to use it!!
Very cool. I hope you enjoy it.
I thought Will Smith only had one CZcams channel???? ;) Also really great video!
Cool video, I love my Sony A7ii too😎
Great video I love my Sony a7 ii and the kit lens is awesome for a kit and they do a fantastic job together we’ll go and check out your website 👍
Your 1000th sub. Great video!
Thank you so much I really appreciate you watching.
Good info thanks bro
Thanks for watching.
I’ve been absolutely TORN on if i should spend the extra for the a7iii or settle for the a7ii. but honestly, since i’m not really looking to go pro with photography, i think to introduce me to the sony ecosystem and mirrorless camera ecosystem the a7ii should be great. still going to think about it though!
great review bro ✌️
I loved the review! Thanks for sharing your perspective. I'm loving my A7ii and the images are great, coming from an RX100M2. What lens do you recommend for my A7ii after the kit lens? I like shooting candid photos / Slice of life.
Hey Christian thanks for watching my video. I think a 50mm or the Samyang 85mm lens are great for what you're looking to do. Below are links to these lens. Personally I'm going to get the Samyaang 85mm. I used the Sony version and loved it. But the Samyang version is cheaper and just as good. I hope that helps and have fun with the A7ii.
Sony 50mm 1.8 - amzn.to/3pXDXv1
Samyang 85mm 1.4 - amzn.to/3m2OxP7
I have the A7ii as well. I have seen a video about the different Sony cameras. It says that the A7iii has improved colours, and a lot more autofocus points. It can do eye autofocus on continuous focusing, whereas the A7ii can do it but not on continuous focusing. Also I find it a bit confusing that if you want to shoot continuously and focus continuously as well, you have to choose wide focus area or flexible spot foucus are because if you pick centre, it seems to just focus once. What I did was put continuous shooting settings in one memory so they can all be selected quickly. The A7iii is meant to be a big improvement but ut still has the same number of megapixels, and it is reallly expensive. The A7iiiR is about double the pixels and even more expensive again. Maybe better to get good lenses. Also, does the eye autofocus toggle on/off on centre button, or do you have to keep pushing the button ?
Found your channel by searching for the a7ii. Thanks for making this vid. Good luck on your channel. Wish you success!
Thanks so much! I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
@@KwameJohnson No problem. I look forward to watching more of your vids. Have a good one!
You lens in that a7ii boss? Links please cause it doesn’t look the same in amazon
What camera would you recommend between this Sony or the Panasonic or any other camera for sportswear clothing pictures? I have a clothing line and l really want good quality pictures thanks
Nice camera
Good video I have g95 myself and was looking at the g9 or a Sony apsc. That a7ii looks amazing.
Enjoyed your Video. I recently brought the A7II and I love it. It switched from Canon. I had a Canon 5D Mark II and got it when it first come out. It served me well and paid for itself. But now it wont turn on. My older Canon 40D still works like a champ. But Canon no longer supports the 5D Mark II and that pissed me off. Anyway it kills me. When I hear people say this is a great entry level Full frame camera. (This is not directed at you personally at all. I like your videos. This is what everyone says in the videos I've seen about the 7II in 2020) But when the A7 first came out and when the first A7II came out. They weren't talking about it being a great Entry level Camera. I believe if you give a Professional Photographer a Sony 6000 or a Canon Rebel and you give Joe Smoe a A9II you can tell who the professional is when you look at their work. I'm not the best photographer nor would I ever claim to be. But Give me an A9 and someone better than I am an A7II, I say the camera didn't make me the better photographer. Yes it has nicer features and the whole 9 yards. But people only get what they can afford to get or are willing to pay at the time. I have a friend who is a great photographer who when around other photographers feels bad because his camera is older. And I've met photographers at meetups who have to get the Latest top of the line camera and L series lenses. And their work is so so. (but it's only my opinion.) It's always based on someones perspective.
I'm in the same boat as you. My 5D II is getting up there in age and was thinking of getting this camera next. I agree this shouldn't be considered an entry level full frame but it's great for it's price. Plus any camera an experienced photographer uses should be an asset to them.
@@MrYuJoo I'm really glad I switched to Sony. Yes I do wish my 5D II was still working. I may try to get an estimate but the repair shop near me, was closed due to Covid. But anyway, I brought the Sigma MC-11 so I can use my old lenses with autofocus. Works well with my 85mm, 70-200L and 24-70L. Not my old cheap 50mm. There are some autofocus features that will not work with the MC-11. But overall it works good. Now if you don't want to get the MC-11 you can get a cheaper adapter and you can use manual focus. And that works great as well. I have both.
I completely agree with you. I should have said for the price it's a good entry level full frame camera. I don't recommend it to someone just getting into photography.
@@ortizjay67 I've actually acquired the MC-11 since my backup body is a Sony a6500. It works great with my 135L and Sigma 35mm ART but I bought that mainly for video. I'm glad you mentioned the adapter because I was worried about the lens performance with the A7II(being an older camera). Due to that concern I was in between this and the EOS RP, although I think the A7II is the better investment. Now after the Canon announcements in the next 2 weeks, if the EOS R drops in price, I don't know if I'll be able to resist a good deal on it haha.
@@KwameJohnson Yeah if this was my first camera I'd be a little intimidated by it lol.
I could not connect my sony a7ii camera to my PC. I want to transfer AVCHD file format video to PC through USB. Could you please help me out to tranfer the AVCHD file to my PC.
I just got my camera and I'd love to know how to set it up to take great photos. Help?
That's awesome. My best advice is to just start using it. I might put out a video showing the settings I use. Let me know what you think of the camera after you use it for a bit.
Really want to get a Sony 🔥🙌
I understand how you feel. I really think they are worth it.
Hey I just noticed your cardinals hat STL IS MY HOMETOWN
I was born there and still have a TON of family living there.
Can you recommend a good third party TTL SpeedLight? I moved from Nikon and there I had Yongnuo's cheap but badass speedlights, I'm looking for something similar for Sony.
godox/flashpoint is often a very good alternative
Godox. I have a godox tt350 that i use as commander on camera and a tt685 on a stand.
Marie Kondo would be so proud
😂
great video! how much do you puff before filming?! lol
Lol none.
Niceee i have my A7ii :)
The best!
I have the experience to go out and shoot by just holding the camera too.
I’m very green to photography and I just purchased my first camera a Sony A7 II. I don’t have any lenses other than the kit lens 28-70mm . I see a bundle that includes 3 Meike lenses a F1.7, 35mm, F1.8, 25mm, and. F1.7, 50mm for less than $250 USD. Would this be a good investment"?
That is awesome you got the A7ii you will love it. Those lens are all manual lenses. That can be a great thing to learn. But I would suggest using the kit lens for a bit and really understand your camera. Then the next lens you should get is the Sony 50mm 1.8, amzn.to/3lvdFNp. I used a lens like this for 2 years before getting a new lens. You can take AMAZING pictures with a 50mm and its closer to the focal length of the human eye. I hope that helps. I’m really excited for you on this new journey. Don’t be afraid to reach out if you have questions.
Can anyone tell me about the battery life?
@@akhilkrishnan4691 The battery life is not that great. I suggest purchasing 2 additional batteries with a travel charger.
Go Cardinals!
Can you use this a7ii for professional work like for paid shoots?
Yes this can definitely work for paid shoots. I've used it for product work and headshots.
Thanks for replying :) one more question is the camera good for wedding photography? I’m a assistant and I’m looking to upgrade to Sony but can’t afford the a7iii at the moment that’s why I asked. I just want to be able to get great photos that will wow the clients if not this camera do you recommend any other cameras at the same price point?
Because I really don’t care too much about video capabilities I just want great photos
Hi i do have nikon d7109 from 4 years do i have to get a7ii full frame or a6400 as a640o have more fps
It really depends on what your doing. If you're going to be doing more video work then the 6400 is a better fit. However if photography is more your focus than the A7ii is a good choice. But if you're shooting more sports or fast moving things then the A6400 might be better.
At the end of the day it really depends what your going to be doing with the camera. I know it's not the best answer but I hope that helps.
@@KwameJohnson I'm amateur photographer mostly doing landscape cityscape and street photography as I have now nikon d7100 I'm thinking move to Full frame that's why sony a7ii i was thinking
For what you are looking to do the A7ii will be great. I think you will really like the low light capability.
please let me know is this tilt screen or flip out screen ?
Tilt screen.
@@KwameJohnson thank you 🙏
I just bought the Sony A7ii for storm chasing.
You had me at waffle.
Would you recommend this over the canon rp?
I wouldn't be able to give you a good answer, I haven't used a Canon camera in a long time. But I really like the A7ii and for the price I think it's a steal.
@@KwameJohnson Okay thank you!😊
I just want a cam for photography, I am thinking of buying this one. I don't care about video, I have a Panasonic G7 and only after I bought it, I found out that it was known for 4K Video, which I don't care about ^^.
On the G7, it also sucks, that the sensor is so small, which makes it blind and night, for me, when I am trying to shoot outside.
I got it for just that reason. Video is a happy bonus. But this thing still shines as a photography camera. The Dynamic range is still out of this world. It really makes me slow down and focus on what I'm trying to do.
@@KwameJohnson thanks for the quick reply, greetings from Austria :)
sony a7ii or canon eos rp?
I’ve only used the A7ii. I love it.
It totally depends on what you are doing
For filming? EOS RP
If you need modern Features Like Smartphone Integrations: EOS RP
Otherwhise when you Just want a Good Photo Quality: a7ii
I’ve got a Nikon D7500 and looking switch to mirrorless. Would you say the A7ii is worth the switch from the D7500.
The D7500 is great but moving to a mirrorless system now before I invest to heavily in lenses has got me thinking 🤔
I have never used that camera so I wouldn’t feel comfortable saying if it is or isn’t. There’s a youtuber named Matt Irwin, he would be a good person to ask.
I am a little sad the a7ii doesn't have silent mode. Also really sad the glass is so expensive.
I also wish it had silent mode.
You call that ancient?!?!??!!?! That would be brand new compared to my Canon 5D Classic or my Mark 2.
Lol thanks for the perspective.
Dirt Cheap!?! that camera is like $1000 plus the lenses which are sooo expensive
Bro you need sleep more😅
