- Today we talk about the Sony A7II in 2020. The A7II came out back in 2014 a part of Sony's full frame mirror less line up. I still use this camera professionally and find that it has plenty of positive attributes for the 2020 photographer. Hope you guys like the video and let me know what you think about the A7II!

I can´t wait for the a7IV so the prices of the a7III drop and finally I will be able to afford an a7II
I love used equipment too, saves you thousands over the years.
And then someone upgrades to a7II and I can buy their a7I :D
Same here🤣
True. But americans are lucky... you can buy a camera body of 7II for $800, $600 used... in europe the price is still €1700... on adorama you get the 7RII complet kit wit bag and other goodies for $1200
@@thishdude There are limits.
In-body image stabilization is incredibly useful, especially if you like to shoot video. I don't have much interest in the original a7, but the a7 II is a lot more compelling to me. Its autofocus is not spectacular, but it's considerably improved over the original. And the a7 III is even more compelling to me because it can shoot in 4K and shoot photos at 10 fps. So, there are tradeoffs.
I mean, I could go out and buy an original Canon 5D for a very low price, but it doesn't shoot video at all. So, is that really a great deal? It is if you don't care about video, perhaps. But if you do care about video, even a little, then you need something newer.
i have an A72 and i hate when CZcamsrs try to downplay this camera because the a73 is out. I like what you said here. The A72 is STILL a GOod Camera.
Good photographers create quality pictures with every camera. The best camera is the camera you know in and out and which you can use with a reflex action so long you do not shoot only landscape or architecture.
really, all cameras these days are good. At least for photography, video is probably a different story. I don't shoot videos so I don't really keep up with video specs. I'm just happy I was able to pick up a fuji xt3.
With everything that's happening right now it's slowed my roll on what I'm doing with going for an upgrade. You totally just sold me on grabbing this as an awesome upgrade into the full frame world. I'm looking forward grabbing one.
Absolutely one of the best reviews on the Tube. Thanks bud, really appreciate it.
Love the fact that you showed that example print. Definitely gives perspective
bro how do you only have 600 subs, fantastic video. this is exactly what i was looking for
Thanks for the love!
Great video, solid content and delivery....and AMAZING photography! Thank you so much for sharing...subscribed and looking forward to watching more of your work and seeing your channel grow!
Your point about the camera vs. the photographer came across very clear. Good job!
You are my man! Just ordered A7II and was looking for videos that explains pros and cons and landed here. Now i feel i made the right choice. Keep it up Gerety!
Just ordered one for myself. Stepping up from A6000 into full frame and some stabilisation on my lenses which have none built in! Didn't tell the wife I've ordered it yet though ;)
This video should be the standards of a review. Pixel perfect review and exactly what I was looking for!
Man, you should be really making more review videos!
I have a A7II and all I have to say is: A camera is what you make of it.
You make me believe in me and my film Kodak. o_\
How is the photography brother ?
Nd which lense u use
Definitely one of the best reviews on CZcams, greatly helpful.
Thanks a lot!
Facts he made it super relatable
Great video! Very detailed,, helps explain stuff that usually other youtubers ignore. Keep it up!
Thx so much for this video. I bought a A72 today (with Kit only 900 EUR NEW!) and due my research here I just found people saying good things about this camera. I´m exited couse its my final switch from APS-C to FullFrame and there is nothing to compare in this price range. Yeah 4k would be great, but I´m going for photography so thank you again, I have the feeling this was a right choose. Best
Just got a Sony A7iii last week, coming from a ASP-C Nikon D7100, I’m loving it so much, even though I don’t have the A7ii, I still found this video very interesting, well done, and I agree the Sony A7ii is a great budget camera for any person going full frame for the first time!
can i buy a camera off from you XD
Bao Lg you want to buy my old camera off from me lmao?
Thank you so much for this review!! I just bought it! Your video helped me a lot!!!!👍😊
really good review bro. really raw not censored or scripted. felt really organic.
Man this video is fire. You seem like such a genuine person dude and this is incredibly helpful for me with my A7II! Thanks heaps bro have a killer day🙏🏽❤️
Came for the review, stayed for the quality and that TSSF banner. Well done, mate!
I just bought a used A7ii the other day (shutter count under 2000) with a 50mm 1.8, battery grip, 64gb sd card, and an extra battery for just $750 all together. Deals are out there if you're willing to search for a few days or weeks before buying one. Going to Sony full frame mirrorless from Canon crop sensor beginner camera (Canon T6) is a massive jump in quality (both in build quality and photo quality). I'm still getting used to the Sony menus and certain operations of the camera but I am not disappointed with it at all. Sony also has absolutely killer tones.
My wife got this one for me as a Christmas gift and I’ve been just watching reviews thanks!! I’m convinced that this is worth it!!!
First time watching, subscribed!
Awesome review brother! Just ordered my a7ii!
I appreciate you making this video. I'm trying to upgrade from a 5D Mk II and I already have an a6500 with an mc-11. The a6500 is great but I wish it were full frame at times. I was stuck between this, the RP, and a7r II. You hit the nail on the head with getting a good body and saving the rest for glass, and the a7II is still a great bargain.
Glad it was helpful!
Bro, quality review. Very detailed and easily explained. I can tell you're gonna be on the way up based off your knowledge
Means a lot, thanks!
I am so happy that i keep hearing good things about this camera even though it came out in 2014. I thought i wanted a DSLR (cuz my dad has used them for YEARS) but learned mirrorless is better for what I need. Yes this is pricey for me but I think it's going to be worth it!. My dad have hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of camera equipement and he says this sounds better than anything he has. Thanks for reassuring me more :)
You can also buy adapters to use his lenses on your a7ii, I use a Zeiss zm and Leica lenses on mine.
This is the review I needed! I have a canon 80d but it’s unusable for my Urbex videos, picked up an a7ii used for a good deal for my explorations was having some second thoughts but after seeing this I think I made the right choice! Subbed to your channel to! Good stuff!
Why wasn't the 80D good for you exploring?
Great video man! Looking to pick up an a7ii and this video really helps :)
Awesome to hear! Thanks for the love!
You brought up some great points. Thanks for making this.
Glad to help!
Your channel and attitude is great. Subbed. I have an A7s which I bought new when they came out, and it's still great for what I need. The A7s iii is so expensive that I can't imagine buying one anytime soon.
Thanks for the love, it means a lot!
Thanks for this video!! I’ve been on a budget and have been using a Nikon D3400 for a few years so I’m excited to upgrade to this!
subbed. thanks man. also, your video style, like, talking to camera and going with it, is really good, for me. You're right what you said about just having a convo with a photographer. I feel this is much better than just reading off google. Hopefully when I actually start my youtube channel properly, it will be more like yours! thanks
Your so honest best advice I was confused which sony to buy as I'm switching from canon best advice ❤❤❤
Great video looking to upgrade my camera and this helped clear up a lot of my questions about the 3 types. Thanks
Great to hear!
that SHOO at 5:36 is so accurate when it comes to lens prices
I have the a7ii and love the results I get for landscapes. I’ve been putting money into good glass which is an investment. Not looking to upgrade bodies anytime soon. Thanks for the review 👍🏼
Great Review!! Purchased my first Sony this week and was the a7ii!! I love it!
Lets goooo! Glad to hear!
Great video man, keep up the great videos.
Also, subscribed!
This was a perfect video I was looking. I wasn't sure what the differences where with these Sony cameras as I am a beginner photographer. I've now decided on going with a second hand A7iii.
Subbed. Best of luck with you channel and thanks for the useful information, Gerety
Glad to help and thanks for the sub!
you mean a7ii?
Good choice I got a A7ii exactly one year ago I love it been focusing on glass buying maybe next year I’ll up grade
Just bought the camera I’m excited to start my new journey in real estate photography I appreciate the content …👍🏽
I have the a7ii and just bought the a7iii. I have to say, OMG the battery! I seriously love not having to think about charging it. I still love both cameras though.
Thanks for such a nice video helped me alot for deciding
Amazing review. Thank you.
Thank you for an informative video. I’m shooting an A7 stepping up from a A6000 always looking for something better.
What I see on the market are mostly features. So I say to myself as a non-professional “Start out with the end in mind” in my case my style is travel/street, shoot RAW, enhance in Lightroom and post on photo sharing sites. I only use video occasionally. The A7 kit lens matched with an F2-28mm prime seems to be all I need. In the interest of improvement I purchased my first “G” lens 28mm-105mm for more reach and quality glass. Nothing wrong the lens except it seems the AF slower. (Probably designed for the faster processor’s in the A series)The lens cost more the the body. Where I went wrong is it’s to heavy to carry around all day for a person in the last Q of life. The combination of the A7 and the F2-28mm and the kit is perfect for 75% of what I shoot. It also seems like the lens on the A7 are matched very well being pre “G” lens generation. So in “stay at conclusion” all these features in the newer versions of the A7 series seem to be for someone else. Lesson learned match features to your style of photography. ‘content and composition is still King/Queen. I think “although you were talking to professionals” that still remains true. Thanks for the video regards from Northern California Richard.
I bought my first camera a few weeks back. A Best Buy employee and a photographer in the store shopping talked me into buying the A7ii. I’m still trying to learn the camera and get out and get some practice in. Glad I bought it because I’m hearing great reviews. If you might have any tips, feel free to drop them under my comment.
I just bought this camera on sale as an upgrade from my old Nikon D3000. Sure, there are better cameras out there but this is a HUGE upgrade for me and as a hobbyist photographer I could not pass up on the deal. Glad to see additional positive reviews about this camera
A lot of people are sleeping on this camera. Glad to hear you're liking it!
Sick honest review. I'm definitely thinking about getting it to upgrade from my old Nikon.
im from spain and you help me a lot with this video, thanks!
Yes, this is what I want to know!
can't believe there's a video on this
Bro you preaching. Great review
Your explanation was thorough giving the pros and cons of A7 ii. I mainly use for photos and will still be using my A7 ii in 2021.
Nice video 👌 My budget is the important factor so I'm gonna get the A7ii. Nice print👍
Nice video, man. Just got one after watching this. Thanks for your perspective.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! You convinced me to get this camera as my first full-frame camera and so far I love it. I mostly do photography but I'm interested in doing a bit of videography on the side and I was wondering if you convert the XAVC-S footage into something else before editing it?
By far the most helpful review thanks man
I appreciate that, thanks!
Bought this cam a month ago with the Sigma 35mm 1,4f DG | Art & I just love this combo. Yes, you can‘t shoot in 4K but my old Macbook struggles sometimes with the highest quality. So I need to go to the iMac to get my things done but in general I like to be mobile. & 4K is still no standard. So for me 24MP with this lense is enough to crop enough & to have a good dynamic range. To a good budget.
Sir. Isn't sigma 35mm 1.4 an e mount lens?
Great video! This is so helpful. I have a 7r II and did a similar video on whether you should buy that in 2020. Wouöd be interesting to compare the 7ii with the 7r ii as well. 🤔
I was looking into getting the 7iii but its a bit pricey specially if im barely starting, you convinced me to go for the 7ii. Thank you!
Alright! I've decided to go for the A7II due to your review :D
Denny......I had the same opinion as you with this camera
Great explaining all these different camera
Great video, thanks!
Was actually hesitating between this vs a6500 just because of the 4K + touchscreen display. Thank you for answering one bothering question in my mind. I think I’m gonna invest on this camera for future freelance purposes. Worried that clients might want 4K videos in the future years (even tho I’m just a Full HD-type of person). I also think full-frame sensor is an added advantage over APS-C since I shoot photos more. I just want a camera that can do both. This will be a sweet upgrade since I’m coming from a Canon 60D.
Thank you for this helpful review. Kudos!
If you also update to version 4.1 helps with the focus and reportedly improves the ibis still love mine
you talk like a real photographer as opposed to these robot reviews i appreciate it
I watched 6 reviews. This is the best one. You don't just talk about the specs. You are giving us Your honest opinions on the camera plus You showed us a printed picture ffs (nobody did that). So hats of to You champ great video, and thank You so much. Because of this video I have decided to buy this camera without any doubt in my mind.
Yes, I agree, great review.
Thanks. I bought it in 2018 or 19 and still have it in 2022. Good words about taking care of composition, etc. I am a street photographer and I know that for me this camera is too slow when it comes to the first shot. By the time it's awake from sleep or turned on I might've missed the shot. And the weak battery makes it not practical to have it always on. However it makes me looking for good moment before they happen, it challenges me and as a result I get a better eye and better photos. What I learned from my over-the-decade experience of street photography, is that first goes your skill, then the camera lens, then the camera body. Pros still can shoot in M mode and can even easily go along with the manual focus.
I definitely understand the difference between a7 series because of this video. I can say this is a great helpful video for my consideration. Thank you
Glad I could help!
I have an alpha 7 mark2 Never had an in depth knowledge of the alpha series and I really go with your thoughts. would never regret buying one of these! Cheers
Glad to hear, thanks for the love!
Very informative
Love it.
I enjoyed this video. Felt like I was actually having a conversation without all the filler stuff.
Hell...I still using The first sony A7 in 2020 and is still hella good.
Thanks for this honest video. I just picked up A7ii from BH photo for $898. Amazing deal.
We also have c100m2 5diii, but my daily driver for quick turnaround, weddings is the a7ii and a6300... even did a commercial interview with the 55mm and 28mm primes a week before quarantine.. shots look real nice... and now some narrative stuff when i need a small footprint. Just get it right in camera with good lighting techniques... and you are happy everyday
Great video man!
Bought today can’t wait for it
Refreshing to hear / see a real users view on the Sony A72. Pure amateur here. Tired of all the sales people just pushing new products without real world usage. Thank you. Some Glass reviews would also be great.
You convinced me. Coming back into photography after a decade away, I was torn. My goal is real estate and possibility of stock. I bought the A7ii with a kit lens for $995 and for the heck of it bought a second body for $895. Savings got me two additional lens vs a7riii. Had considered a minty Nikon D3x for about $1k but was tired of lugging around such a beast. A hundred weddings taught me a lot! After all they are a light box and I won't do killing my gear.
Glad I could help! People overlook the A7II now-a-days so I'm glad you got some solid deals. How are you liking it so far?
Thanks for an informative video! I've got a Nikon D3, which is a beast, I mean a beast of a camera but it's heavy and it's built like a tank and you can't use it one handed unless you're Mike Tyson. So I'm thinking of crossing over to the Sony. I'm into taking stills more tha video. What do you think?
I'm a beginner photographer who started photography about 7 months ago and my first camera is the sony a7ii and I absolutely love it 💯
I just traded my Panasonic g9 to get a full-frame camera, and I love this Sony in a couple of years I plan to upgrade to the a7iii. You are so right the a7ii is still the best and to me, it is a professional grade camera even in 2020.
U deserve much more subscribers...!!!.. Keep going bro.
Thanks for the love!
thank you, slowly loosing my mind trying to navigate which camera to get. this helped a lot! cheers x
Thank you for this great review! I've been taking photos at concerts as a hobby with my Dualshock DSC-H300, and although I know this camera is way different, I'm looking for something that would be good for 2021 because I'm gonna be going to more "big" concerts this year (or at least I hopefully will, lol). The image stabilization spoke to me because that's literally my only problem with cameras is that my hand is a bit shaky.
Because of this review, I'm gonna save up for a7ii body with 28-70 mm zoom lens. Thank you!
Carter Lennon I saw on best buy its $1000 and a $100 off a lens.
I just bought the A7 mkII, and I’m soooo happy!!!!
Thanks for details. As you said, many people read from the google.
Until I heard from you, I didn't know that 7II can use Eye-AF only in AF-S. Very nice and useful detail.
BTW, Black Friday "sale" continues - prices for used 7II went from $600 to $800 for "sale". Don't fall for that, people. Use price tracking to check graphs of price changes.
Great video man! I just subbed
I love the A72. it's sooo great for photography. and still decent video
Very helpful video thankyou
own this a7ii and still using it until now since mid 2018. a7ii is enough for my current job. the shutter count is about 160k+. Might buy this camera again if my working area still not using 4k res or the rumors of a5 is true.
Great video. I own the Sony a6400 but always wanted to try full frame. I take mainly landscape and scenic photos when I travel. How's the auto focus on this camera? Would you recommend it for travel?
Thanks for this bro, been looking at the a7iii but i just cant afford it atm as im going to uni end of the year. So i think im going to pick up the a7ii. most of the extra features in the a7iii are not important to me as i am a car photographer. I can pick up a a7ii used for around $700 which is a amazing deal.
I recommend it big time. Even the kit lens for the A7ii is incredible for car photography, although any Sigma 1.4 is recommended! 💥
great underrated channel 👏🏻
Amazing Work ✌️
Thank you Gerety, your video was just the confirmation I needed.
I am from India and we have Diwali deals going on at the moment. I just picked up an a7mk2 with 28-70 lens. With the festive promotions and deals applied, the kit cost me around 810 USD. My first full - frame :)
Please tell me where did you brought, it is always out of stock now
@@pavanputhuri I got it from f***kart last year during Diwali sale
Hi man, great video. I'm just getting into photography and video, is there a lense at the reasonable price range you'd recommend?
Just bought new this week in 2022 mfd May 2022, the technology for photography has matured well beyond the needs of photography decades ago.
Subbed and shared. Your content is amazing.
Really good review..what about touch screen? do these cameras have them?
thanks for posting....I'm about to buy a A7ii because they are marked way down now...
I think the argument of camera vs. camera gets in peoples heads too much. it should be a matchup of camera vs. artist skillset. you did a great job illustrating this. the A7ii matches up very well with my skill level. I have plenty of room to grow with this platform. if I got my hands on an A7Sii I would not have any higher quality products because of MY current skill level.
EXACTLY! It’s all about the photographer > camera. Thanks for the comment and best of luck!
i just got it today, 700 usd used looks perfect, nice video
Awesome price! Thanks a lot!
