      Hi Adrian, what would yo recommend me to buy between the A7, A7ii and the A7iii? Also, would you recommend me to wait until October or November to see if they drop the prices? Cheers

    • @SanAntonio-
      @SanAntonio-  Před 5 lety +1

      Joaquín Fernández in my opinion, I don’t see the a7iii dropping in price any time soon. That would be the ideal camera to have the easiest shoots, because of the autofocus and IS. However, if you want to leave room for a good lens, maybe go for the a7ii. It really depends on your budget but the a7iii does 4K as well, so it’s very attractive!

      Adrian Mendoza cool! Thanks for the answer, Adrian.
      In my case I’m just looking to have a camera for eventually take good sharp images (I do landscape photography when I have the time). That’s why I’m looking to choose the A7 over the A7ii nd A7iii, because sounds that can do the job without paying the triple 😅.
      My only concern is the lens. Like, which one should I get with this A7 (if, as you said, it should have IS)?

    Good video, however a lot of differences that you haven't mentioned:
    1. Larger grip (more comfortable, especially when using larger lenses - subjective though), also makes it weight a bit more (556g vs 416g).
    2. A7 and A7ii comes with 25 contrast detect Auto Focus Points & 117 Phase Detection AF Points, A7II offers 30% faster AF Speed and 50% better tracking (most noticeable to me when using lock-on focus).
    3. 50 MB/s (A7ii) vs 28 MB/s bit rate on videos.
    4. 1 extra programmable button on the A7ii.
    Overall, both are good value-for-money cameras, especially for those entering the full-frame realm, or changing to sony to see what is all about. I think main points of difference would be the IBIS (which you have spoken about) and the better autofocus system. Despite all of this, I must say $1000 for a full frame camera (A7) very suitable to travel photography is a bargain, especially if you wait for cashback or % off deals for further discounts!

      THANKS. That's what I was looking for. In my country you can find A7 for less than 600 USD. But A7II still costs about 1000. I think it's not a time for me to switch from APS-C.

  • @geeeee8268
    @geeeee8268 Před 6 lety +4

    Two biggest differences are on sensor phase detection focus and full metal lens mount. Also, A7ii has much more ergonomic grip and shutter button placement. Body is all magnesium vs plastic on A7. Better OVF resolution. Next gen processor. It is totally worth $600 premium. And A7iii, if you have the dough, is even better value. Much better. Although, with 35mm attached to it, A7 makes one hell of a street beater rig.

  • @jayrichjlr
    @jayrichjlr Před 7 měsíci +1

    for those of us who check this video out yearrrrrrssss later: the price difference is even less between the two. But what you will find is the screen is so much better on the a7ii, the battery life is improved, the grip is bigger and the IBIS. I would say all of those features are worth an extra 3-400 to get the 7ii

    Sorry I didn't watch your video before I purchased my Sony a7II. I love this camera, but would have loved to save $600 dollars, and bought a new lens. I was a devoted Minolta photographer for many many years, so that's why I bought a Sony, cause they said my Minolta lenses would be compatible with Sony, which some are. I bought the converter also. I started taking pictures when I was stationed in Korea in 1958/9. I developed my black and white pics on base. When I got home I bought my first Minolta T100 and started taking wedding photos. I just like shooting landscape and candid shots now, (I'm 82) so don't think I could handle weddings anymore. Liked your video, but was hopping for more detailed information on shooting whit the Sony a7II. Thanks so much, keep up the good work!

    A7 has slow autofocus compared to A7II? It's definitely slower than A7RII. Use it with Samyang/Rokinon 35mm f2.8 FE AF you get a auto focus and an excellent street camera. Small, compact and super image quality.

    If you care about shooting stills, the in body image stabilisation of the A7II allows you to go as slow as 1/30 of a second (or even lower) to allow for a better exposure in low light. Sensor stabilisation is an amazing and rare feature among full frame cameras, and makes the A7II, at least in my humble opinion, a much better choice that the A7.

    The a7+28-70mm kit is 899€ in my local store. I'm in the market for a new camera for both video and photography so I'm gonna grab it. I was already decided to switch from my Sony a5000 to a Canon 80D (mic jack, headphone jack, IBIS, FHD 60p) but now I'm gonna stay with Sony and get the a7. At my workplace (youth media education center) I work with an a7Sii for video (it's EXCELLENT) and Canon 6D for photos and between a FF-DSLR and a FF-mirrorless I prefer the lightweight, slim body of the Sony even when I use it handheld with the 28-135 f4 G lens. The a7 kit with an additional 50mm 1.8 would go for under 1200€ (less than the a7II body only).

    On the used market at least, the a7ii is dropping in price/value lately. I picked up a used one for under $700, and it works!! You can, of course find the older a7 for under $500 now, but the price difference is starting to close in. You can use all kinds of lenses with the a7ii without worrying about camera shake that I’d have trouble with on my old a7, in anything short of good light. The only reasons I’d go with the a7 now over a newer model would be if I absolutely couldn’t afford a used a7ii or if I couldn’t stand the heavier weight and added bulkiness of the a7ii.

    If you are starting out full frame , I would say it is much better to invest in good lenses but most of the optics are dependent on the lens. Get a good G or G Master lens or the prime lenses' and you are good to go. Lens will stay for decades. More important than anything is to learn photography and the art of it. To be honest, every full frame Sony Camera and lens' give consistent good photographs. To pixel peep on chromatic aberration and bokeh balls is not the art of photography.

Look at t as a Sony Alpha Interchangeable Lens Camera with E mount abbreviated down to iLCE. No really the difference between them isn’t enough for me to worry about. So even though you can speed up the camera ,but that lets in less light. So for me it’s like an Fd lens. They don’t make them any more. If you have an A7 keep it. 2 years on from my last comment here. The A7 IV is out now and we are still happy using the A7. ( the original model) So it all depends on what you expect from your camera? We just want a good picture. It’s being used with a sigma emount adapter so we can use Canon 16-35mm lens for apt’s flats houses, etc used for people trying to sell property’s or just showing off the business etc.

  • @michellek.silver-bighorse149

    I own two Sony a77ii (APS-C ) camera and I've been wanting to get into full frame camera. I was really wanting the a7iii, but too damn expensive. Wow...for under $1K bucks, it's a good price to get your feet wet in a full frame camera. I have no experience shooting in full frame and I like to try it out. I would need to purchase an adapter to use my A-mount glasses though. I am really considering the a7 rather than the a7iii.

    In 2019 the a7 has only gone done $100 to $899. The a7ii has come down to $999. Would have gotten the a7rii, but that price is holding around $1500.

    Question: What advice would u give to someone who is just starting with photography, wanting to purchase the A7, who wants to potentially go into wedding photography (event photography)? What sort of lenses should one invest in, what gear and such to start off with per say.. BTW u inspired me to ACTUALLY purchase this camera. Thanks in advanced man. Greetings from California

      Good investment Josue! That makes me really happy to hear! Will be filming more videos on the a7 this week now that I set a schedule for that! A great first lens is definitely the 50mm 1.8. Do you have that one yet?

  • @rickdavis2235

    I'm considering the A7 myself. I shot professionally for years using Nikon and then Canon gear before retiring about 4 years ago. I recently sold my Canon 5D Mark IV along with my Canon "L" glass lenses, because I could use the money for other things and it was a lot of money tied in camera gear just for posting ocassiobnal photos on Facebook or Instagram.
    I've never owned a Sony camera so I don't know what to expect. All I know is that I miss my camera but don't want to invest thousands of dollars in another camera. My iPhone 7 Plus does a great job but lacks the detail and dynamic range of my Canon. Who has the A7 and what do you think of it?

    • @rickdavis2235
      @rickdavis2235 Před 6 lety

      Zottjes
      Thanks for responding. I think my biggest concern is the autofocus. I've heard and seen in videos that it's pretty slow. I don't expect to be as fast as my Canon's were because they have the best AF system going but I don't want a camera that is searching for focus that could cause me to miss shots.

    If you haven't you should watch Philip White a British wedding/event videographer, he's in among the top in the world. He shoots with the a7s and a7s II aka Sony's lowlight monsters (yet he crusches the blacks, it looks good though). He shoots mainly with a 85mm lens, I vent budget and got a Panasonic gx85 with a 42.5 1.7 because I won't have the same issue with low light up here in the north in the summer anyway when weddings take place. BUT if a would get a gig down south I would really fast get a Sony full frame, though I think a camera for 2500$ plus gear is to expensive for any wedding.

    Hi
    I'm thinking of switching from my Canon 6D to the Sony A7/A7 II.
    What I'm looking for is the Eye AF, the iQ must at least be as good as what I already get
    The focal lengths I usually work with is 85mm(AF), 135mm(adapted Olympus MF), 200mm(adapted Olympus MF) and every now and then 24-105mm Canon L lens.
    I mostly do portraits and animal photography.
    So my question is; would you still recommend the A7 to someone like me?

    The sony a7 is a really good camera on itself. But as i read someone else say before on photography forum that the a7ii feels more like the end product and that the a7 would be just the test model. Honestly in the end it's all about the shoot you can get, and as long as the sensors good then the picture will look good. But IBIS, a better body as well as better AF makes the A7II feel more well done as a camera compared to the A7.
