    I enjoy your Uruguay videos! Keep up the good work.
    Prices are a hot topic after this round of inflation. Basic groceries, rent, utilities, gas, etc are all important to know on a monthly basis, but the prices of individual items are good to know as well as viewers will be better able to estimate their costs based on how their purchases are different from yours. You don't have to do the same items every time you do one of these videos, but the prices of various fruits, vegetables, meats, carbs which make up our diets are all good to know. Even the cost of a Big Mac and a Big Mac meal at McDonald's every once in a while or a latte at Starbucks to keep tabs on that.

    • @MaddieAle
      @MaddieAle  Před rokem

      thanks yes I agree. I plan to make shorter "grocery haul" style videos to show the prices of food items, and then in these more official videos talk about things like bills and gass bottles / petrol and all of that!

    • @kinslowrainer3982
      @kinslowrainer3982 Před rokem

      @@MaddieAle Yeah, good idea. Several short grocery-haul videos and then a larger other-expenses video sounds great. Don't do it all at once and make it all-encompassing every time because that would be too long and it reduces the need to go back and watch your other videos.
      But I can't stress price per unit enough, even though total amount paid is valuable, too. Meat in $U/100g, gas (petrol) in $U/L, electricity in $U/kwh, carrots in $U/kg, domestic and imported fruit in $U/kg. You get the idea.
      Winter is coming for you, so maintenance, operation, and the effectiveness of your fireplace/stove would be an interesting thing to see if you want to include that sometime.

    I was over there in Jan/Feb, Fray Bentos. Partner is from Uruguay but we live in NZ. Uruguay is on par with prices comparable with NZ. With the impact of inflation, the prices are, give or take on some items cheaper or more expensive between both countries. What I found ridiculously expensive in Uruguay is the cost of vehicles. The salaries in Uruguay are way lower than NZ so that does make it hard but then again I would imagine you would learn to live with less in Uruguay and that is not necessarily a problem just a change in lifestyle. I was told it can be a struggle to get a tradesman to undertake work on property or carry out car repairs, for that matter. They typically say they want the work but then do not show up or the job then gets pushed out and when the job is carried out it is not always completed 100% so you end up with a semi completed repair. Uruguay does have some issues like all countries do, I think personally living there would be a slower pace of life, an experience to live with less but harder financially. Most complained about the heat, but the temperature over summer was nice I found. I do miss the old way of doing things over there, the small interactions with the local butcher, rotissorie, or the handmade leather craftsman. Food wise, it is the chovitos, choripans, and bizcocho treats.

    • @paulglucina1184
      @paulglucina1184 Před rokem

      @limon ysal hmm I think geographically we are closer to Asia and we mostly have a better trade deal with the large manufacturers hence the price could be adjusted to reflect in that way. We pay taxes like everyone does so I don't know where you were going with your comment..

      In ururuay the prices are much cheaper than australia or the USA... BUT the incomes are lower. so if you aren't concerned about income because you're working remotely, you can find really nice accommodation here for reasonable prices. otherwise, Uruguayans live further away from the city for cheaper prices, but the crime is a little worse, also its just hard to then commute to see friends or do anything.

    Whats the average modern-ish studio cost there?
    Also where would you recommend living in Uruguay?

    • @CesarL
      @CesarL Před rokem +2

      Rents for a modern-ish studio vary a lot depending on neighborhood (in Montevideo, outside Montevideo, studios are rare). I would say 15000 to 18000 pesos/month in an OK neighborhood, 20000-22000 pesos/month in a nice neighborhood, 22000-25000 pesos/month in the best neighborhoods, If you asked for buying, the proportion in prices is about the same, from US$ 80000 to US$125000 from an OK neighborhood to the best locations. You can do better (both in rent and purchase price) but in neighborhoods that are either not nice, or, are OK but far away

      I want to make a video talking about the different regions, but to be honest i'm not super familair with the different areas further out of montevideo so i would need to do a lot of research!
      if you're a foreigner, i would recommend living within the montevideo region to start with because you will need to come for all your visa / residency appointments, or to just find basic things that you need.
      You can find places for as low as 12,000 pesos / month... but they will be very poor quality, otherwise our cheapest appartment (the first one if you scroll back) was in a great neighbourhood for only 17,000 / month, it was a small place and on the bottom floor, but to start off it was perfect.
      my friends on the other hand, have a one bedroom apartment beachfront in pocitos and its 30,000 per month, which honestly is a bargain for what they are getting, but it is a lot pricier than other neighbourhoods.
      where we live now, we are 30 mins by car, or 1 hour by bus, away from the city, and we pay 30,000 per month for a 2 bedroom house with a front and backyard. Its just a "less convenient" location.

    Did your monthly expenses include your rent? So your monthly expense was $1,180 in dollars. Sorry I’m from USA 🇺🇸 😅How much is just your rent? If I moved to Uruguay could I live comfortably on 63,500 Uruguayan peso a month? I’m a single guy. I would use public transportation, and only need a studio or 1 bedroom. I would cook some meals at home. I would get a gym membership. 😊

    • @MaddieAle
      @MaddieAle  Před rokem +1

      our rent is 30,000 pesos/month, (exchange rate changes all the time)
      My income (maddie) fluctuates a lot so i didn't include it.
      Gym memberships are anything from 1200 - 3000 per month depending on the quality of the gym
      food is the biggest factor, you can of course do things cheaper, BUT, generally speaking food is more expensive here than the US when you talk about anything imported. even veg can be expensive.

    Engine could be ACCURATE i know a transmission cost about the same for the parts and labor. In my industry camera system is about the same price as the labor to install it. I would look into a another car. Car's are currency pits. I spent $60,000 dollars on car's maintenance over last 3 years.
    432,000 income and 60,000 just in fuel ⛽️ a year cost. Rent cost a year 360,000.
    Water 25,128 pesos a year. 30,000 pesos for wifi a year. 24,000 pesos a year on pet food. People food you spending about 500 pesos a day. A year your spending 180,000.

    EDIT: You also look very clueless about how everything works here in Uruguay, so please get informed or you'll struggle a lot!
    Btw living with 45k a month and paying 20k rent is absurd, the rule for rent is that it never should be more of 35% of your monthly income.
