      Just think... in Arkham Origins, Bane blew up a balcony, sending the Joker falling to his death. Batman saved him.
      Had he simply let the Joker die, he (a) would NOT have broken his one rule, since it was Bane who would have actually killed Joker, and (b) would have saved hundreds of not thousands of innocent lives that the Joker took over the next 8 years.

    • @itzskir6832
      @itzskir6832 Před 3 lety +189

      Well technically thats the most Batman-like choice to make. He's saved joker and bane and others in various games and shows and movies.
      In the red hood movie jason even questions why he didnt kill joker after all he has done. Also the Batman hush movie where he tried to save Hush even though he had killed and endangered certain people.

      "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you" Seriously though, as much as I love Batman, restoring Ra's health back is a pretty dumb idea. Just let him die, don't save him.

    • @TimTheChristian
      @TimTheChristian Před 3 lety +112

      I think Batman saves them because he believes they’re not too far gone. He still believes that somewhere inside each villain, there’s still an ounce of humanity, a spark of good.
      I like to think that Batman saves them hoping that maybe, just maybe, they’ll change and use their abilities for good.
      If Batman were to kill, or simply let them die, he completely flushes out that possibility, the possibility of change. Batman doesn’t believe he is in the position to make choices like that.
      Although he’s certainly superior to all his enemies and even his allies, he still believes he has no right to make that call: to decide the fate of a person’s life.
      Hence, he won’t just allow someone to succumb to death, if he has the ability to save them.

    • @TimTheChristian
      @TimTheChristian Před 3 lety +55

      Also, I think that’s why Batman makes the hard choices. He has such a strong conviction, but at the same time, he understands what needs to be done. He’ll search out every cause before simply resorting to death. That’s what makes Batman so epic time.
      In Ra’s case, I believe Batman would’ve killed him, but the two choices show the two sides of Batman. On one end we have the Batman who believes there’s still another way, despite having gone through so many. On the other end, we have the Batman who understands there is no other way, and ultimately does the hard choice.

    When Ra's asked to do it for Talia, I immediately thought that he said that so none of his guards would understand. In Arkham City, Talia wanted you to kill her father. Besides Ra's repeatedly said that the pit is no longer efficient, that it damages his mind more and more, he just wants to die. Moreover, he wants Batman to end his life. In my opinion, Batman would have destroyed the Lazarus Pit, because it is Ra's wish. Besides, the ending where you let him die feels better than the one where you save him. Nobody dies,exept Ra's, and he says : "Proud of you" meaning you made what he wanted. Nyssa takes control and you are sure that no more innocents will die. When you save Ra's, the league leaves for a while, but it will return, killing more innocents in the process. Letting Ra's die is the more human thing to do : Ra's lived for centuries, saw thousands of things, cheated death. Now he wants his life to end, finally. Taking another dose of Lazarus' substance would only make him more violent and aggressive, like Ra's is no longer in control of his mind, the Lazarus' substance is. For a man like Ra's, letting him live is more of a torture than common sense. He lived long enough, and now grows tired of this life. Its league has a blind trust towards him, they do not understand his pain. Ra's is too weak to even kill himself. Nyssa understands that, calling him a zombie who lost his mind. Destroying the Lazarus Pit is not a murder, it is answering the final wish of a dead man. No one can blame Batman for that, even Alfred makes the point that considering Ra's' special lifetime, it would be absurd to even call it a murder. Because he died so many times before. Ra's is too tired, I mean his intestines are litteraly hanging out, he lived for centuries, like the Highlander, he just wants to die. There is no longer a moral question about his death, it is just something natural that needs to happen. "Do it for Talia, end my suffering Batman, destroy everything for me and her" I think this is what he would have told Batman if they were alone.

      He did say in Arkham City that his mind and body couldn't take much more. After 600 years of using the Pit the damage to his mind had become permanent. At first when someone uses a Lazarus Pit the insanity's only temporary. But Ra's had been using it for so long he'd probably gone totally insane. I'm guessing that after he stabbed himself with his own sword and was impaled on the Arkham City sign his body was too ravaged to be healed by the Pit so they had to hook him up to that machine.

    Option 1 you revive a ideological homicidal maniac who wanted to create world peace in Arkham City by setting up global concentration camps to get rid of undesirables. His first action is to kill his daughter, proving he's just as insane as ever, and leaving her blood on Batman's hands.
    Option 2 you remove the support from said maniac, allowing him to die peacefully. His daughter, proclaimed as the most rational Al Ghul family member, then takes over the League of Assassins and swears to not end innocent lives.

    32:03 - the moment Ras told Bruce about this sentence, it actually dawned to me. They have different ways of fighting injustice, but Ras never forgot the fact that he kept Batman under his wing during his training arc. They are different in many ways, but a former mentor turned villain saying that he is proud of what Batman has done, this is another bond between the two.

    • @A.H.goose1
      @A.H.goose1 Před 9 měsíci +17

      Ngl bro, Ras only trained batman in the nolan films. In these games he didn’t, initiation in origins shows that. He was trained by Kirigi and lady shiva. That “proud of you” line isn’t a good thing. Both endings have a negative part to them, and that line is the negative for this ending. He’s not proud of what Bruce has become, he’s proud of him for essentially breaking his main rule and killing in a way. He probably says it more to torment batman, but even if it’s genuine, Ras being proud of batman is telling the player that you broke batmans rule and what he stands for by refusing to save a life. That line is brutal, probably one of the worst things batman has ever had to hear

Despite his atrocious actions, Bruce Wayne/Batman showed respect to the one adversary who deserved it.

      While choosing to save Raj batman said - "I'm no killer".
      Also Alfred says if you save Raj - Good job sir. You prevented a civil war while not breaking your code.
      Nyssa also while dying says - Stupid stuborn fool. That's why she loved you.
      If you destroy the Lazarus pit Raj says - Detective... proud of you...
      meaning that you did what he wanted, to leave a man to die, if you do that, you can go even further.
      Batman - I wanted to kill him yes, many times, but if i let myself go on that path, i wont be coming back.
      By choosing to destroy the Lazarus pit, you betrayed your nature. The Joker needed a cure to prevent dying, he, just like Raj, wanted to live, Batman was ready to give him the cure to save the Joker although it was the wrong choice. It's not that different than this cituation.
      The moral question was this - are you ready to brake your code to do something for the greater good? Are you ready to let someone die? Yes, definitely the good choice is to let Raj die, but the right choice was also to kill the Joker, Killer Croc and the other maniacs to prevent their escape and start murdering again.
      The code of Batman is the only thing that is pure but also makes him flawed. All things here point that Batman betrayed his code, you may dissagree but batman thinks it like that.

    The reason this decision was so difficult for me was because what happened at the end of Arkham City.
    "You want to know something funny? Even after everything you've done, I would have saved you."
    Batman was willing to save a homicidal maniac like the Joker, but when given this ultimatum, he's faced with nearly the same choice, and it's up to the player to decide. It was very hard for me, because I felt like in both outcomes, Batman loses. Either he lets a near-immortal homicidal warlord continue his killing spree for generations to come, or he is left questioning his morals, if he broke his one main rule, perhaps even thinking if he'll do it again.
    Now you could argue that Joker killed himself by stabbing Batman, causing him to drop the cure, but Batman could've outright said out loud "Here, take the cure." No, he thought about simply just letting Joker die, lamenting their 'running gag' between him and Joker, and how many lives he's dooming by letting him live on. Perhaps he really was going to let the clown die, and simply said that to Joker as his way of getting the last laugh.
    I chose to let Ra's die.
    Yeah yeah 'ends justify the means' blah blah
    I felt like Batman made that mistake once, he's not doing it again.
    Like what Batman says to Ra's in Batman Begins:
    "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you."
    But in a way, the real winner was Ra's al Ghul.
    "Detective....proud...of..you"
    He got the last laugh.

      I say that letting Ra's die is the best option. Technically Batman did it before. Remember that episode of Batman Beyond where Ra's took over Talia's body and it ended with her being caught in a burning building? Terry offered to go back in to save Talia, but Bruce basically said, "Whatever's in there has already been dead for years." I think of it that way in this scenario.

    The detail on Ra's showcase is amazing! I totally recommend everyone seeing it up close. If you zoom in on his midsection he still has a gaping hole there, back to front, from his skewering in Arkham City. He's got some pulsating organs and stringy flesh in there, like his body is regrowing itself. Plus his eyes and expression! Ra's al Ghul has never been one of my favorite villains, I'm just not a fan of anything to do with the al Ghuls, but I was super impressed with this DLC and Ra's al Ghul's design! Grade A!

      NY Jets Because people who do commentary playthroughs is their first time playing the game. The point of that is to record their reaction to viewers. I'm not sure about the silent players though, but there are some who aren't so good too. The professional ones probably played the game before it came out or works for the company. Idk.

I wish the game had hdr, better anti-aliasing, and 4k support to make the game look even better. I don't know how the pc version looks like but I'm just comparing the PS4 versions to make it equal since Spiderman is only on PS4, not pc. That's the one thing Spiderman did better, graphics-wise. But overall, I do prefer Batman Arkham Knight's look better.

    I have to say, seeing the options, I would have destroyed the machine. But i feel it would have been a more touching story if Batman had taken Ra's back to the cave with him and cared for him until the day he passed, as a way to honor the memory of Talia. Ra's was no longer a threat, he deserved to die peacefully and with someone who truly understood him. Had Damian been part of the game, the sight of his father caring for his dying grandfather would probably have reconciled the two natures he caries within him.

    • @lawliet8396
      @lawliet8396 Před 6 lety +4

      Arkham Batman doesn't deserve Damian. And plus, Rocksteady didn't want to follow the exact same origins from comics and adding Damian in the game. Sure Bruce and Talia had a night, but it doesn't mean she later got pregnant. Think a little more.
