BC resident. I've been watching that TV show about North Shore Rescue, and they only recently got the ability to do night missions and winch someone to a helicopter. (A smaller civilian helicopter - these big military ones are are unmistakable on the rare occasion they are seen flying around over here.)
Obviously the military SAR-techs are the top tier of this sort of mission, but BC is such a tough area for search & rescue generally with the mountains and sea, there are many overlapping SAR agencies. Makes me wonder if the RCAF gets called out as a last resort, for the hardest missions.
Anyways, kudos to all the SAR people, military or civilian, for doing a very hard job.
