    Chez of Warlord Games and Justin from Beats of War have broken out a set of miniatures to take you through the basics of running a good demo game of Bolt Action in its simplest form. No big tanks, no massive guns, just a good old fashioned firefight between squads of infantry.
    How did you introduce your friends to Bolt Action?

    My first demo was something similar, though it was more of a straight up death match. The only real differences really was that the US (Me) got a sniper team and the Germans got a mortar team. We then had a rematch and included more advanced things, but eitherway it was easy and fun to learn

    I'm prepping a ton of terrain just for this. Great suggestions in this vid, thanks!

    A very informative and interesting demo. As Justin said, an ideal level to pitch the game to introduce new players. Thank you.

    I love the imagination that can come with this game. The German LMG team is pouring fire onto the British squad that is hugging the armored car. Meanwhile the Leutnant looks over and sees the other squad, which could be helping drive off the Thommies, is hugging the bushes. They are confused, they hear lots of fire, they have lost some men, they don't know whats going on and they are keeping down. The Leutant runs over the bushes out in the road and he screams at them to "get out of that ditch and get back in the fight!". The British Lieutenant sees him, rushes out on the road and puts down some fire at him but misses. The Leutnant then runs at the Lieutenant and busts him in the side of the face with his luger, cracking his skull and killing him. He then jumps over the hedgerows again running to where his other squad is and screams "get up! go go go!" and rallies them. But by the time he turns around the Thommies managed to scramble away with a briefcase they found in the car and retreat back to HQ. Its a tactical German victory but probably more importantly a strategic British victory because the British might have been defeated in the field but they managed to get those documents which who knows what kind of intel they might contain.

    Excellent video! Very clear and informative. Our group plays Bolt Action in 15mm. Currently, we are re-fighting the actions of the E Company, 506th Infantry of the 101st Airborne as depicted in the Band of Brothers series. Carentan is the next scenario. Thanks for the inspiration!

    So the first three orders Justin gave all violated the game rules? First order was a run over a hedge, which is not allowed, as you can only advance over hedges. So was the second. Or is there a special rule, if you are in base contact you can run over it?
    And the third order brought the unit right up next to another unit, where there should be at least a 1'' gap (although that might be the case as the camera angle didn't really show it too well).

      No you can run over soft cover but you can't run over hard cover

    I'm very interested to this game. Does the infantry models of a single unit have to be base to base with each other all the time? Can the model of a single be more far appart?

    • @toast1229
      @toast1229 Před 8 lety

      They can be a bit further away than just base to base, if you've played warhammer 40k it's very similar where troops just have to be under and inch or two away from another model in the squad (I haven't fully played the game yet but have watched a lot and this is simply my guess from what I've seen)

    • @HansBohr
      @HansBohr Před 8 lety +3

      Thank you very much. I check on some website and i saw similar system for 40k unit formation (2"apart) and Bolt action (1"inch appart). I feel those system to be not natural. I wouldn't expect a unit to be so close to each other all the time. I'm still interested by the game, but i need to gather more information or see other (maybe better) systems, or create my own because I love WWII games.

    • @toast1229
      @toast1229 Před 8 lety

      I agree with you for the most part as almost every time I play a small game of 40k, I always lose atleast one squad to 1 or 2 rockets in succession.

    • @HansBohr
      @HansBohr Před 8 lety

      I found Warmachine/Hordes unit systems to be a lot better (Everywhere within command of the unit leader (9", in general, around the model). Maybe i'm too picky, i have to try hit first and then see if it's a system that I like or not. :)

    • @toast1229
      @toast1229 Před 8 lety

      Yeah, really its all preference, I was about to mention warmachine's method but I don't watch or play much warmachine so I wasn't entirely sure.

      at full range, you take a -1 penalty to shoot. At half or less, you eliminate that penalty.
