    i’ve been so invested in this case because i just don’t understand what her and her co-defendant were thinking? as a man what makes you think you have more of a right to raise a child than the biological dad who is very active and loving toward their child? as a man you shouldn’t even wanna off somebody who is taking care of their family the way a man should just off the STRENGTH! there is no amount of manipulation in the world that would make me kill someone for some cash that’s not even guaranteed! they’re both idiots i have no sympathy for either one.

    Argh, I hate openings like this. The Prosecutors presents the information as if the jury is familiar with the story. The story is so fragmented and all over the place. Stop trying to be dramatic or write a novel. Tell the story from point a to b. Its a presentation, not a theatrical performance.

    He was sleeping with the enemy the whole time, and she set him up and plotted to have him killed for insurance money; this is really sad she deserves to get punishment in prison and on top of that she had an affair on her husband, her son will be left fatherless; but she knew exactly what she was doing. She can get life without the possibility of parole, she set this whole thing up just to do her dirty work. I feel sorry for his family. This was planned before the killing happened and his family deserve justice. Kemia didn't love him the way that he loved her. She try to play the victim here and she's not. She a cold hearted murderer who had her husband killed, she played him smh!

    • @applejuicejunkie316
      @applejuicejunkie316 Před 3 lety +1

      Lol. Right. Apparently you have a right to a trial by jury and if you opt for that and are proven guilty you face a stiffer penalty. If you plead guilty, which is why a lot of people do, you can get a reduced sentence to avoid trial. This is very harmful to low-income/poor defendants as they universally get convicted when they don't have the money to fight back. In Kemia's case, she admitted to everything, so I don't know why she didn't just plead guilty. Jeremy did and got 65 years, but she went to trial and got life without parole.

    • @Amanda-James
      @Amanda-James Před 4 lety +8

      It’s his job to defend her nonetheless and to try to get the least possible sentence for her if he can’t plant reasonable doubt in the minds of the jury. Everyone needs and has the right to a defense lawyer, no matter how guilty you are.

    • @visitswflorida
      @visitswflorida Před 4 lety +7

      He likely begged her to take the plea. Her decision is proof she's used to manipulating others to get what she wants so no doubt she's confident she'll get off the charge.

    • @maryb6672
      @maryb6672 Před 4 lety +2

      I’m guessing without hearing the defense yet that they will try to make a case of justification as defense. Meaning-she was abused, threatened or mentally ill etc. & that’s why she killed him. Even in the small, small # of cases where this strategy is successful, it doesn’t mean the defendant isn’t punished. It just makes the punishment less severe. But that’s just a guess at their strategy. But seems it would either have to be a justification defense OR a false confession defense. That’s it.

    Isnt it so that first evidence needs to be admitted in the trial before it can be published to the Jury? How come the Prosecutor can already use evidence here before the defense team even had time to object or not against admitting it?

    • @nycsongman9758
      @nycsongman9758 Před 3 lety +1

      You have a point there; I've just retired from 24 years in criminal court, and I've never seen this. I guess it's different in Michigan, though one would imagine that rules of evidence would be practically universal throughout the US.

    • @nycsongman9758
      @nycsongman9758 Před 3 lety +3

      After first replying to your comment, I thought about it overnight, and concluded that in order for the DA to play the confession to the jury during the prosecution's opening statements must have been as a result of both parties *stipulating before trial* that the confession be admitted as evidence.
      A clue as to the possibility of the pre-trial stipulation might lie in the fact that the the first piece of evidence that was shown to the prosecution's first witness (the victim's father, Tyrone Hassel, Jr.), was entered into the record as People's exhibit *#2;* leading me to believe that People's exhibit *#1* was the stipulation itself.
