Just went through a 12x12 deck with this system. The aluminum balusters go pretty well all though time consuming. Some spacing may vary by the center mark per section for code and aesthetics. They suggest silicone around every baluster connection. Definitely use the black colored stuff vs clear. Also top tip when you do the stair balusters you likely have to cut them. I used a plumbing pipe cutter for perfect cuts. Didn't hurt the powder coatings for me. You could use blue tape but up to you. Good luck!

What is the size of bit for 3/4" baluster plus plastic cap? 3/4" bit is too small.
We want to do a similar indoor industrial handrail with rebar. Any tips?
The stair kit is 4ft but the distance between my posts on my stairs is 4ft and 4.5 inches. What do you suggest?

Hi where do you start from to calculate where your post go as obviously all the rails won't be the same length but need to keep all the spacing between spindles the same, cheers
So if my deck is above 24 inches I would have to bolt the post on the inside of the rim joist? So basically Id have to Sink a larger post in the ground and run it up through the deck?
In Ontario you don't need to extend the footing posts. In our area the building codes allows us to place the full post flush with the bottom of the floor joists and bolt to the rim board and joists. The post ends up being a little stronger but you end up losing about 3" vs the way we did it.

This hardware came with the spindle kit, without them the job looks rough. I'd go into your local hardware store and talk to the contractor desk, they will likely be able to order in in something similar.
Great video. Is there a way to build a matching deck gate using the same veranda product?
Its likely possible. I'm not sure how you would get any support corner to corner diagonally unless you used light gauge airplane cable and turnbuckles. If you do it be sure to send us a pic. Happy gate building:)
How did you notch out the corner 4x4 posts?

You need a video to show how you assemble The veranda vinyl rail you cannot hold the balusters straight when you're trying to assemble it they keep falling out don't know how to keep them from falling out so you can measure and do what you have to do
Hey, what height was your finished hand rail? And do the plastic ends of the balusters come off so you can trim down the aluminum balusters if you need to?

Do you recommend a (2x4) or (2x6) handrail for the top. Also, I was thinking of installing solar lights over my posts...could they just attach to the top of the handrail, instead of the actual post ?
Solar lights attach to posts from what we've experienced. Just make your posts longer and but your cap into the posts instead of running over the top. You can use 2x6 as a cap if you like, depends if you want to have a larger ledge to set things. All the best.

Sorry, we have not done any round wood spindles on exterior rails. All the best with your project!
How tall did this railing end up being? I ordered the 26 inch aluminum railings and doing the math it will be hard to get a 36" railing using 2×4s for the horizontal supports and a 2x6 handrail.
3 1/2” top support 3 1/2” bottom support 1 1/2” cap 26” spindles and bottom rail support 3 1/2” off the deck surface. 26” + 3 1/2”+ 3 1/2”+ 3 1/2” + 1 1/2” = 38” - 2 inches that the spindles go into top and bottom railing + 36"
What kind of lag bolts? Do I have to use carriage bolts on post rail mounted inside of joist?
We still use lag bolts when we mount on the inside. I would recommend a 3/8"x 4" galvanized lag bolt with a washer (minimum 2 per post). All the best with your project!

thats what i do i find the miters eventually come apart but we are in SC ... and he sounds Canadian so big weather difference

Where we are the stair rail spindles come shorter for some reason. I actually like that the stair spindles are shorter because I find it is easy to run the cap into the upper post, makes for a simple transition.

Notching rail posts are no longer allowed per the IRC.
Deck is less than 24” off ground, railings are decorative on this deck, not required. This was mentioned in the video. Also we noted to check your local building codes.
