yes this is absolute correct, but I think, both actors, Reese Witherspooon and Joaquin Phoenix are very fantastic. It is a unbelievable wonderful movie. ( Sorry I am german and speak not so good english ) I had seen this movie, 6 years after the premier, I was enjoyed every second of this cinema. If I look the movie in english language, I understand 25%, but I like every song, I like every emotional and lovely dialogue. the story and biography of Johnny Cash is so extraordinary interessant and so exciting. The movie and story it"s not Hollywood but a wonderful poem of love, hate, human tragedy, history of different epochs and times. Trump should look this video, this make America great, and not the trumptowers, the unrestrained capitalism or the walls between USA and mexican border. Trump had built a gulfplace at the nice east scotish coast, he had built a huge wall around the gulf place. the inhabitants are so very angry to him. the poor people cannot see the northsea, but must look on his huge shit wall. Trump is an egoistic arsehole, without any respect for god and life.

The first time I saw this film in the movies I said to myself, "Reese Witherspoon is stealing this movie." When she got her Oscar I thought, well there is justice after all!

what i love so much about this is how you can see at 1:45 he sees his family frowning and stiff as a statue, then at 2:03, how June looks at him and he looks at her, a sign of happiness.

One of my favourite movies.
I'm always amazed when great actors portray a legendary performer and they are better than the originals.
the actors sang well together in this I have heard the original june and jonny but reese and joaquim do it so well esp reese being from the south has that accent down well. and joaquim yeah its still a shock she got an Oscar for this and he did not. but the soundtrack is just great wow the producers took a chance and have them sing it.

I remember my grandfather playing johnny cash songs. He was hard of hearing and he really cranked the volume up. I think everyone in the neighborhood pretty much could hear it. Wow, that was a long time ago in the '70s. Living in Tennessee in the 60s and 70s you pretty much grew up listening to these songs. I think the movie brought back to life some of these old songs.
Got HOT DAMN! I really loved Phoenix and Witherspoon’s performances and Portrayal of the country legends in this movie! Ahhh it’s so great. I really love this movie to the style, tone, casting choices, sound editing, cinematography and the music of all things! What a perfect bond Cash and June held together

I love this song so much even is old....
I liked this version, expecially because Phoenix really gets in character. But Dylan's version is the best I must say. The moan, the feeling of the song is really captured in his voice. Almost brings tears to me. Good singing nonetheless.
I really liked the movie, but I'd wish they had delved deeper in the story about his life. Something I wanted to have seen are the "hotel pranks" they often did while touring, one time they bought several hundreds of baby chickens and released them on one of the floors. Another time they sawed off the legs of all the furnitures in a room and put it all nicely back together, so when the maid came there to clean the furnitures everything fell to pieces. Another time Johnny got a room that was separated from his band members and wanted a door between the two rooms, but since there was no door there Johnny simply grabbed a fire-axe and chopped out a man-sized hole in the wall, big enough so that he could just walk straight through.
One thing the movie did differently was when he kicked out a footlight on stage. In reality however, Johnny took the mic-stand and dragged it across all the footlights on stage, smashing allmost everyone of them.
In 1965, Johnnys truck accidently cought fire which triggered a forest fire that burned down about 500 acres of wood in the Los Padres National Forest in California, which also killed off allmost all of it's endangered species of condors. Cash is the only person to date that has been successfully sued by the government for starting a forest fire.
And the very fact that he was a highly skilled morse code operator back in 1952 when he served in the United States Air Force, stationed in Germany. He was the first person to intercept a russian message to the west about the news of the death of Soviet leader Josef Stalin.
Walk the Line is an interesting and good movie overall, but I'd hope to see more from his life! :)

I understand what you're saying but the problem with that is there's only so much about his life the filmmakers could have covered in just over two hours. For them to have covered everything you're talking about, the film's running time would have to be around three or four hours. As a viewer I wouldn't mind that so much because overall the film was quite good from a quality standpoint but whenever a film is made there are always strict requirements that have to be met.
Perhaps they should do another one just called Cash: The Man In Black as this one was basically more about the love story between June and Johnny.
