From what I remember was he was playing pretty bad game after game conceding goals (the drop probably due to his heart condition), so Mourinho wanted to faze him out with another goalie. It didn't help that Madrid fans were very toxic at the time because they were starved for a champions league win and demanding it hard.

In the final against Leverkusen, Casillas didnÂŽt play the whole match, it was the then main keeper CĂ©sar the one defending the post, but he got injured in minute 68 and was substituted by Casillas, which went on to save some crazy situations at the end of the match.
Agreed! But it wasn't so tough for CĂ©sar to defend because Madrid dominated the first half. After getting injured Leverkusen dominated the second half, so basically Casillas had a better performance in that match.đ€·

I still can't believe he joined my homecity club! A legend of the game like Casillas ending it's career in my favorite club was one of the best things that I have ever witnessed. I had the opportunity to see him play live, something that, before his arrival to FC Porto, was completely impossible. And he was the best goalkeeper that played for FCP, with all my respect for VĂtor BaĂa and the other legends of the club, but he was something else.

Well Casillas' s achievement is different from any other goalkeeper because he was not blessed with good height as required for a Gk but despite the odds he was one of the most energetic goalkeeper who would fearlessly dive to any distance to save the goal. đ€

I started watching football during the 2010 World Cup and I remember thinking nobody has ever scored against him..
He broke my heart because I wanted Holland to win, but he is by far the best goalkeeper Iâve ever seen. He wasnât at the top as long as some of his peers, but his peak is unmatched in my opinion.

He was the reason why I started supporting real Madrid and probably spain. Not because of Ronaldo or some other player
I started supporting us via the olden days. I remember as a kid, seeing Kaka in the white and gold colours, and not even knowing who he was. Nowadays, I couldn't respect him, Casillas, and Ronaldo less.

When i was still a kid at 2000s, the first GK that stole my heart was Oliver Kahn, especially because the first football game i watched was WC 2002 (nah man, as an Asian kid, the only big football tournament that i can watch was this)
And some years later, when Kahn stop playing for Germany, finally this Guy stole it.. especially when "unstoppable" run during 2008-2012, and because he was the captain, and i can watch how he play (because i can finally watch football past midnight as i growing up), Casillas sure was the best!! Even tho' during that time, Real Madrid didn't won any UCL
But watching him hold that UCL trophy at 2014, even tho' he's not as good as he used to be, still make me happy (well, in this era, of course i know he already won it much earlier, but i never watched it.. and finally able to see it for myself is different feeling)

Casillas is one of my favorite players of all time. I was so incredibly happy about Spains wins in 2008 and 2010 and that wouldnt have been possible without this legend. For me he is tied with Buffon and Kahn for the greatest keeper of all time. Buffon has the best stats as far as I know, but Cassilas had just such strong performances in clutch situations and Kahn had an incredible personality and influence on the game so I cant decide really.
