I believe the Himbo MUST have all of these three attributes: big muscular, dim witted AND have a heart of gold. Without the third one he is just a jock
Harvey from Sabrina the teenage witch was another Himbo I can think of!
@@lizzi7128 too skinny
@@Kurooganekohe j wasnt on roída and did a normal amount of working out expected for his character’s age
@@editaudioaesthetic there are people of the same age as his character in the real world who are bigger. Himbo is not an inclusive grouping. Otherwise why bothering having a term at all?
YES. Thats why for me Jason Stackhouse is the best himbo
Love the fact that the "bimbo" is meant to be innocent and stupid, yet incredibly gorgeous. No creepy indications whatsoever.
In addition to being creepy, it's just boring. You would think that someone who's more smart could be a very mentally stimulating partner but I guess some people just aren't that bright... And I'm not talking about thembos, but hey, it's their life.
.
Look up the trope of the ingenue - it gets worse.
I feel like it can very similar to the “born sexy yesterday” trope tbh…
What’s funny is that “bimbo” in Italian literally means child/infant
I love Cher from Clueless and Elle Woods because they show that you can be incredibly feminine, love fashion, care about your appearance, and like "stupid, girly things" but still be kind, smart, and impactful. Especially in the case of Elle, who had so many people be outwardly mean to her, but she always responded with grace.
I never thought Elle was a bimbo. She was way above that in my book. Even before she got into Harvard.
And I love that Elle inspires other women without feeling the need to compare herself to men or tear men down. She stands up to warner but she doesn't berate men as a whole unlike in the new Marvel movies where the female characters constantly compare themselves and their experiences to men and tear them down
Elle Woods is TRUE feminism; Captain Marvel DOESN'T

Brendan Frazier is THE himbo icon of the 90’s and you cannot change my mind. His early filmography was almost entirely comprised of lovable himbos
Oh yeah especially in looney tunes back in action
Uh hello? Joey Tribbiani from Friends was THE himbo of the 90's. He embodies literally every stereotypical attribute of the trope. He's cute in a boyish way, he's dumb as a bag of bricks but he's also very sweet and ride or die for his friends.
@@marcellacassab4331 i love Joey but we gotta be honest and admit that his character didn’t age the best when compared to other himbos like Fred Jones or George of the Jungle. his character was a lot more misogynistic than some other characters that fit the trope.
His character in Encino man was the best, a caveman with a silly goofy heart of gold ❤
Kronk 🥰
Fran Fine was a ditz, not a bimbo. She was scatterbrained but not totally clueless
I think her life was stressful enough to make her act like that.
She’s very street smart
I agree, I feel that the comedy of the nanny came from the contrast of her being a very street smart character while the rest of the cast were very book smart. Since she was a fish out of water she could be the butt of the joke, but she was often the one who resolved conflicts and taught the rest of the characters important lessons
Yes!
That didn't stop people from calling her a bimbo tho, I think she was very sensual/a flirt, which came across as promiscuous, which the critics didn't like about her. That's a shame, I love her.
I think it's also worth noting that Disney even named the girls/triplets in Beauty and the Beast as The Bimbettes. 😅
That’s a very fitting and kinda cute name
The Himboifciation of Fred from Scooby Doo is by fair the best! This is even present in the more current day animation and played into, just based on some of the clips I see online.
My favorite himbo is forever prince Edward from Enchanted. I just love James Marsden's portrayal of the character. He's dumb, but loyal and kindhearted, and politely backs off when he realises the damsel in distress he was trying to save, didn't want him to save her anymore.
To me, the himbo has to be buff, stupid and kind. If he's not kind, he's just a jock.
Could you also say the idea of a male romantic partner ideal of the "Golden Retriever Boyfriend" is an extension of the Himbo?
ur so smart yes
No. Cause golden retriever men don't have to be dumb
I love that you approach fashion with such an academic approach. More feminine aspects of culture are often overlooked parts of history, so I’m glad they are getting the attention they deserve.
There's a way that optimism often gets called stupidity, and I think this is a big part of where "bimbo/himbo doesn't mean dumb" comes from... plus the whole multiple intelligences thing. Cher in Clueless is clearly smart, but overly optimistic and inexperienced in the world due to growing up in a bubble. I think this optimism is part of why bimbo is being reclaimed; in a world that looks as bleak as ours, optimism can feel refreshing.
Say what you want, but in animation one of my all time favorite Himbos is Bolin from Legend of Korra. They didn't do nearly enough with him but I did like what they did give me. He's stupid, sweet, loyal, and he does get a sort of power up even! Which not a lot of himbo characters got.
OMG SOMEONE ELSE WHO KNOWS THE LEGEND OF KORRA, I LUV BOLINN
BOLINNNNN 🛐 underrated king!
I feel like it really shows the differences between men and women (generally ik this doesnt apply to everyone) that a bimbo is seen as something that men can control whereas the himbo more represents a man who wont try control you. I just feel like that says a lot about cishet relationships
What an interesting take!! That's very accurate
My favorite himbo is actually from a book! I adore Carrot from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. He's classically broad shouldered and strong, but he's also naïve in the sense that he quite sincerely sees people as the best version of themselves. Superficially he misses lots of mean-intentioned sarcasm etc. But on a larger narrative scale, his mind doesn't really make room for evil, and then as a precious result, most people around him can't help but try to behave themselves as HE sees them. He's a marvelous character.
thor was himbo-fied in ragnorok and it honestly brought so much more life into his character and made him more enjoyable
The reason I love Legally Blonde is because Elle is exactly the opposite of the Bimbo and "Dumb blonde" trope, she's kind, knows her own worth and is compassionate and feminine and she loves fashion, but she's also snarky and smart and motivated and self empowered, while not needing to tear down men on the way. She does her own thing and empowers other women.
I think Sleeping With Other People is a great example of a himbo and bimbo buddy story! They’re both not the brightest and acknowledge their social shortcomings, try to keep each other accountable, and ultimately become better people through their relationship. She learns to want better for herself and he learns to be a better and faithful partner to others.
Elle Woods was my heroine growing up! I never thought of her as bimbo.
i think it’s what society saw her as, especially since she was very feminine and since she was a woman
Elle Woods was aesthetically a bimbo, but with a hardworking an actually putting effort to reach her goal personality to me. She unironically my role model.
I’m so happy to see Eric Matthew’s included in the himbo lineup
I liked the evolution he had in the show from irresponsible endless party going manslut, to centered responsible good and selfless friend. And we learn he wasnt an idiot at all, but just someone who grew up in the shadow of an older prodigal sibling and whom their father constantly compared him too, anyone would be messed up with a family dynamic like his between an alcoholic mother a detached cheater dad and a "perfect sibling" he didnt have anyone be the rock and provide a good moral compass to guide him growing up, and taking that into consideration him growing up a himbo was the best possible outcome all things considered.
Betty really was the guardian angel he needed to finally become the man he was always meant to be, she gave him the support and confidence to really bloom and grow by placing her faith in him something nobody had ever done, since everyone kept expecting him to screw up at every chance meanwhile her stance was always a constant "I know you are going to be great"
Disney's Hercules is my favorite himbo, so lovable.
There's some mysterious charm in a dumb pretty guy, they seem loyal to u, like a human version of a puppy or a golden retriever.
Sharpay Evans and Elle Woods WERE NOT bimbos. They were just perceived as such by other characters, but they were both very intelligent
yess she said that they can be branded bimbos but they either subvert that perception or ultimately change !
Only if you consider being bimbo as something bad.
One of my favorite himbos is Andy Dwyer from Park & Rec! cliche, I know but P&R is one of my comfort shows & I love April & Andy’s relationship.
Probably my favourite bimbo depiction is Quinn from Daria, I really enjoyed the character arc she gets (but I haven't seen it in a while; this video has inspired a rewatch)
I unironically love how thoroughly researched this is
Favourite bimbo of recent times... Bethany in Jumani but specially when she's zapped into Jack Black's body
When she uses the restroom for the first time 😂
Regarding the bimbo himbo movie thing, that’s what I thought the Barbie movie would be until Ken turned into a jerk. I hope to see something like that in the future, something comedic but wholesome.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates Ken. I wouldn't have minded him being thick, but all the other disagreeable personality traits made him unwatchable. I prefer the "Life in the dreamhouse" any time. Also, the actor is 10 years older than Margot and it shows.
@@esterbengoa6077 I don't hate Barbie movie ken, I enjoyed him for what he was. But Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse is basically a whole Bimbo/himbo universe and I love it so much for it.
You three must really hate men.
Himbo Requirements:
Pure of heart
Strong of body
Dumb of ass
I see more and more these days that himbo is regarded as gender neutral. Adora from she-ra, for example, is a girl himbo.
😭😭
Scorpia beats her though, she's the biggest himbo of the show
Yeah, Adora isn’t dumb…I love Scorpio but…she fits better
Buckey from 9-1-1 enters the chat
Karlach from Baldur's Gate 3 is also a perfect example of the femme himbo
Bimbo to himbo? That's a new one.
I'm glad that you covered this because it's society's fault for even thinking that good looks and nice bodies make you stupid. You can still be beautiful/handsome and still have a high IQ. It's society who's the dumb one.
I hate the fact that the first thought I had after watching this was: You didn't mention Tiana's friend from "Princess and the Frog" and Knuckles the Echidna.
I'm surprised you didn't add Georgia from Ginny & Georgia. She is playing the bimbo game but she's such a complex, cunning character.
That's why.
@jadacampbell9331 so is Elle woods and Tiffany from Chucky though. The bimbo isn't dumb about everything imaginable, it's just that no one values what they do have a special interest in
It is interesting how the bimbo seems to interconnect with the naive girl.
Many of them, like elle woods, seem to be naive and not unintelligent. They are sheltered and people try to keep them innocent and either not tell them about the world or have them explore it. This leads to their naivete and is seen as unintelligence.
wake up babe ModernGurlz uploaded
I resent Fran being in the thumbnail. She's not a bimbo at all. Just because she's not book smart, she's very street smart.
Exactly! She is super smart in her own way.
My fav bimbo is Mihoshi from Tenchi Muyo! She has never had a thought in her head, we should all aspire to such greatness.
Josh Chan is the perfect himbo and I love him.
As a girl who's dating a 6'3" guy, I can confirm that he's literally the sweetest angel. It's something about guys who look like they'd beat you up, but are actually sweethearts that just draw me to them. I mean, Ken made me melt so BAD. I
Stoppp you're literally living my dream, blessings to you both mashallah😭🙏🙏
omg me too, my bf looks like he just came out straight from the 1970s, he looks like he would smack the shit out of you if you even breathed by him, but he’s the cutest sweetest person i’ve ever met, he makes me feel so special and pretty. 😭💓
@@judasxhunter So cute omgg🤧
In male queer spaces, himbos are one of the most common stereotypes for potential male romance interests, often being seen as sweet and loving despite not being as smart as others. The term has also evolved beyond the typical hypermuscled stereotype, as ex-jock and chubby people are also seen as himbos as long as they retain the sweet but dumb personality.
The “Himbo” has been my type since childhood and I ll die on this hill 😅
Idk why but it’s always my favorite Archetype for characters lol. Like I just love London Tipton, Michael Kelso and uncle Jesse so much lol. I think it’s just because they’re so dumb yet so happy and they don’t ever seem stressed haha.
Wait.. isn’t Barbie (2023) - a over the top buddy comedy movie starring both a bimbo and a himbo? 20:37
in a way, there is a buddy mystery movie about a bimbo and a himbo. two, actually! scooby-doo and scooby-doo monsters unleashed.
oh yeah velma and shaggy are also there. and scooby obvs.
Jennifer from WKRP was NOT a bimbo. She was often framed as the smartest person in the room. The office and radio station couldn't run without her. Jennifer was meant to subvert the expectations of her looks and lifestyle: a beautiful blonde who dresses to the nines and dates rich men who fund her lifestyle is ACTUALLY smart, kind, and savvy, and she never pretends to be otherwise.
Sad to not see a mention of my favourite animated himbo/bimbo pairing Brittany and Kevin.
One of my favorite bimbo portrayals was Tara Reid in Josie and the Pussycats
Just Tara Reid in general...
Yessss
A new rom-com with a bimbo and a himbo would be fun
I feel like it would be the perfect set up for almost believable miscommunication and the inherent comedy both characters could bring to that trope from different angles. Both the himbo and the bimbo talking past one another could be hilarious if implemented correctly (or completely insufferable, like many uses of miscommunication)
Thanks so much. Though Loni Anderson's character on WKRP was decidedly smart - probably the smartest person at the station - she went against the stereotype.
My favorite himbo is definitely the iconic Johnny Bravo ❤ Loved that show as a kid
i disagree with some of your statements in this video, mainly because i believe that any character who intentionally makes other people miserable should not be labelled a bimbo/himbo. i feel like an almost naive level of kindness is a must-have for any character of this type, and throwing ill intent into this mix makes a completely different sort of character that already has a distinct trope; an unkind himbo is just a jock, and an unkind bimbo is usually just a spoiled rich girl.
Just curious if you thought about including the himbo as a positive term. There are a few twitch streamers that are referred to as himbos meaning guys who go to the gym and take care of their bodies but are also kind, funny, and sensitive.
Okay but can I get justice for Lina Lamont from Singin in the Rain? Don't get me wrong, she is cruel and selfish at times, but the way Lockwood treats her just because she ignored him as a stuntman is ridiculous. Not to mention making it seem like she was stupid for struggling to adapt to a type of acting she'd never done before, leading to the studio trying to replace her voice without telling her. She does prove that she's not a moron by getting the press and her lawyer involved, which of course leads to her getting humiliated by Lockwood in front of the world. She deserved better honestly.
Hear hear!
my favourite himbo is from Genshin Impact: Arataki Itto. He's voiced by Max Mittleman, who is _the_ perfect fit for him, and he's hilarious, buff and strong, silly but also really kind and always means well with his actions. His Chinese VA, Liu Zhaokun, is also a perfect fit for him, both VA's did an incredible job bringing the character to life.
You know you love the Himbo when Hercules, George of the jungle and Kelso were your childhood crushes growing up. Long hair, goofy personality’s a little bit dumb but innocent and sweet with golden retriever energy. Damn …. That’s definitely my cup of tea 😂
I'm in my own himbo Time Warp right now as I'm trying to give my own himbo a compelling story also having him maintain his himboness.
😊 Turns out that you can be blonde and have a good character.
It's amazing how detailed and well researched your videos are✨✨
Glad to see Josh Chan mentioned hes my favorite 2010s himbo
I loved dating himbos in my younger days. Good times, hehe.
I think Kronk is another noteworthy himbo. And I’d love a comedy about a bimbo and himbo friendship!! Also I agree with what others have said, in my mind if they’re not kind they’re not bimbos/himbos/thembos but I do get why you included characters like that in this video
Please imagine a himbo convention meeting with like Jason Mendoza, Ken, Kronk, Fred Jones all in one room
Himbos almost always feel like a simple joke, where Bimbos seems more real. Idk why that is
Because the way women are taken advantage of irl is reflected in the trope. It’s less serious when it’s a himbo being depicted because men have the advantages. Punching down vs punching up.
How do bimbos seem real when they were playing a role?
Even though many people use the terms positively now, I still find it an insulting term, since there's an emphasis on "pretty, but unintelligent" as though the subjects have nothing to offer besides looks--and while looks are GREAT, the terms usually objectify and patronize them rather than empowering them. It's never "you don't have to be a genius, but you can still be talented and productive" but instead "hey, at least you've got your looks."
My favorite character type into a video analysis yesssss ❤❤❤
I’m so glad Tiffany Valentine is in here, she’s so iconic
I cant't get over the different meanings the term bimbo has. In my country, it is rarely used, if you hear it, usually older ppl saying "i am not your bimbo" referring to someone who can be bossed around. I think originally it referred to a house slave
Fran Fine in the thumbnail!! Such an icon, I love her
Genuinely fascinating. I'd love to watch that bimbo/himbo comedy!
One of my personal favorite himbos is Pepé Le Pew. The Chuck Jones created animated character who is attractive but completely oblivious (unaware that as a skunk, he carries a lingering odor wherever he goes) to his surroundings. In the original Warner Bros. cartoons, he is a caricature of the romantic Frenchman archetype and the humor comes through his phony French dialogue. The character is so misunderstood nowadays. He’s a cartoon exaggeration, his playful nature and romantic gestures are over the top.
Not too long ago, in one of the Looney Tunes spin-offs, “New Looney Tunes”, they made him a James Bond parody where he is a spy that they play the himbo archetype quite well in my opinion. He has a spy partner who is a female fox, Claudette Dupri. His quick bluffs/flirtations are often turned down. But he is loyal to his secret agent occupation depicting him as a confident hero in the episodes he appears in. Both Pepé and Claudette always save the day in the end.
And it is quite crazy that innocent characters like him have become a target in order to fit a trend/movement within media. I understand that Hollywood wants female empowerment but it needs to be balanced along with writing that makes both genders relatable so it can resonate with audiences. There is nothing wrong with making characters flawed.
The asian himbo from But I’m a Cheerleader >>>
I found your channel recently and I love it!... fashion and cinema is the type of content that interests me the most and I love that I can understand a lot of what you say even when I am a Spanish speaker. i have just a question for you, i didn't faund a video about Alicia's movies and i though it's weird... did you think on make one?
..and thank you again for your work
You are my favorite chanel! I love every video
Watching videos like this makes wanna watch ALL of those references. Need the whole list of all the movies/shows. Lol.
Eric Matthews you will always have my heart
Wait…I’m coming to the end of the video and I haven’t seen my favourite himbo mentioned. Shout out Ethan from Lizzie McGuire!
Oo a bimbo himbo best friend movie would be great! Even better if they don't force them together at the end. Or if they're together to begin with and we just watch a healthy relationship for a whole movie.
Pooja (or "Poo") from Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham deserves her bimbo flowers!!!
"P.H.A.T: Pretty, hot and tempting"
I love the himbo movement, bambino is coming back to its true origins 😂🎉
Loves it❤thnx MG
My favorite himbos are George from George from the Jungle, Rocky from TRHPS and Prince Edward from Enchanted.
Little sidenote for german speaking people here: "bimbo" is an old german word similar to the n-word. Better not use it when you speak german!
My favorite himbo is Gourry Gabriev from Slayers, the anime series. He's absolutely perfect.
OMG ELECTION!!!!! The best lmao me and my husband do the speech all the time 😂😂😂
My favorite bimbos are elle woods, cher from clueless and anna ferris' character from house bunny i just love how they may noy=t have been street smart but they always subverted everyone's expectations. My favorite himbos is Johnny bravo and ken from the barbie movie also ken from barbie life on the dream house. Honarable mention to fran from the nanny.
IM HERE FOR THE BIMBO COMEBACK!!!!
I’m super into the bimbo aesthetic listen to a LOT of Ayesha, Slayyter and That Kid❤❤
Thor from Marvel is also a Himbo
Honorable mentions: Emmett Cullen from Twilight, Nandor from What We Do in the Shadows, Ken from Life in the Dream House, and Andy from Parks and Rec
Him both and bimbo can even be traced back to ancient Greece, with the God of War Ares being a himbo and the goddess of love Aphrodite as a bimbo😂
Please talk about the fashion in moesha
And cheetah girls 🐆
Sharpay and Ruby are not bimbos, they are too mean and conniving that fit more into the queen bee archetype.
Aaron is too smart to be a himbo
The title of this video is fantastic
my top himbos who turned into well developed characters: jamie tartt, ryan gosling's ken, and duke orsino
I’ve felt that way when I don’t get respect because some view me as not book smart and therefore I’m too dumb to be nice to. I used to also act like a bimbo when I was younger always doing my makeup and acting ditsy but i did so because it was fun. Sucks to be looked down on for that. So now I wish I was as smart as others and I hardly dress up anymore. Glad you said that I still deserve respect despite acting really girly.
I take issue with Tiffany from Chucky/Child's Play being classified as a bimbo. She's not an airhead at all. She sometimes pretends to be, but that's just to lure people in to get what she wants... like killing them. She's actually quite intelligent.
Could the Barbie movie qualify as a Bimbo/Himbo movie that showed that the characters had more depth than you expect?
The "meme" at 13:48 is actually transform p*rn. It's just been widely misinterpreted. 😅 (not sure if I'll get in trouble for using the word in a comment, hence the censor)
Lance from the other two is the ultimate himbo.
Jennifer Marlow(WKRP) was no bimbo. Sure, she was a beautiful blond that used her beauty to her advantage, but she was the most intelligent character on the show & didn't appear to sleep around.
My favorites bimbos are Cher from Clueless and Elle Woods, though I will admit that having finally watched Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, I really enjoyed seeing the seed of bimbo subversion that Marilyn Monroe put into Lorelei Lee. My favorite himbos are George of the Jungle and Kronk. I really need to watch The Barbie Movie, still, I want to see himbo Ken so bad. As for "villain himbos" I don't feel like they're really himbos, since the best himbos have a third key factor you didn't cover in this video: a heart of gold. Even ones like Kronk who fell in with villains are much sweeter and noble than you'd otherwise expect.
She lets it slip that she knows PM stands for posts meridian during her song and then quickly tries to save her act by throwing in something dumb.
At the end the friend literally says "maybe you're secretly smart".
The joke is on the audience, and I think that's hilarious.
That's not the only movie where it's implied she's actually reasonably smart. In the other she just won't wear her glasses it turns out
I think the bimbos and himbos that were really memorable to me as a kid were: 1) Chelsea Daniels from That’s So Raven, 2) Patrick Starr from SpongeBob,
3) Eddie Winslow from Family Matters,
4) Junior Kyle in My Wife & Kids,
5) London Tipton from Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and
6) Glinda from the broadway show Wicked. Although I never watched Victorious as a kid I’m surprised Kat wasn’t mentioned in this video.
hot men being dumb is my favorite man thing its so endearing
