The sad part is, when he's in the mask, he's actually pretty threatening. But when that mask comes off... sheesh.
Exactly ! exactly !
He looks like Mr. Electric from Sharkboy And Lavagirl
Yeah that's kinda the point...
Such cheap low-budget special effects.

Thank God I'm not the only one who thought that way. I have restored my faith in humanity.
I’m not a dick, I am a head
He feels more like a laughing stock than a menacing villain.
That's the purpose
@@darkslime6424 but why? It’s the same thing every time with MODOK always making him a laughing stock

The scene were he asks cassie what he should be could've been actually emotional but instead they just ruined it with a bad joke
To be fair if you were in Cassie’s situation where you had to consult the Giant head of the man that attempted to kill you like three times (once as a kid) and now he’s acting all pathetic then how would you respond in that situation
Wow like most modern marvel movies
@@shayansadri-pucci5876 that's the good thing about a movie like this, the reaction doesn't have to be realistic
That's standard Marvel. They ruin most of their emotional moments with jokes.
IT WAS PERFECT! IT WAS HILARIOUS! "I'm such a dick." ROFL!
Wow. The Inexplicable Giant Floating Baby Head from Phineas and Ferb has not aged well
Wasn't expecting that. Honestly best comment
I honestly don’t think the CGI was that bad on him. I think it’s just a fact that how do you make someone like Modok, a giant, floating head look realistic and not ridiculous?
Yeah, his CGI isn't bad.
It's just that people aren't used to seeing a floating head with small limbs in live-action.
I honestly would’ve preferred if he kept the mask on, cuz without it? Nightmare fuel irl
@@lennydickson8845 I mean that’s kinda the point, even in the comics and tv shows people have the same reaction to Modok, he’s one creepy looking mofo.
Cmon, marvel be Capcom made it work
Just add some realistic texture onto it and it’ll look fine
He looks like that humpty dumty egg from kinder advertisement.
I like how Darren has always been obsessed with Pym Particles and Hank hiding them from him and when he sees for the first time Giant-Man and realises Hank had the enlarging technology all along he almost doesn't even react. Totally nailed his character, heh Loveness?
Most beautiful mcu character ever
Agreed 🤩
I actually like his design don't @ me
Remember in Antman 1 when Hope told Darren that the Pym Particles were affecting his grip on reality? He was already a loose screw away from complete malfunction. Yeah he was campy at the end but thats just where his arc kinda went. They really could’ve been a bit more emotional with him though. Dudes pretty tragic as a character
I feel like I'm watching a CG kids movie from the 2000s. (Spy Kids, The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl)
He wasn’t that bad but he’s just uncanny a bit in live action. He looks so much more badass and cool with the mask.
I don't think Modok could ever be badass or cool, I think he would've worked better as a joke villain in the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie or something
They just went full Mr Electric
Which is hilarious considering the amount of people I saw complaining before the movie about him wearing a mask instead of being a big face
Y’all complain about everything and will never be satisfied smh
@@jg2722 yep never, not until I have Kevin Feige on his knees begging
If Darren Cross was able to recreate the Pym Particles, Why didn't he recreate the discs to get the power core for the time chair?
Don't ask questions, just consume product.
He didn't perfectly recreate the Pym Particles
🤔 Good question
Im sure if it was THAT easy kang would've done a lot of that right? Besides Kang would probably have him killed the moment he tried
Here’s another question. Why didn’t Darren take Scott’s Pym particle supply to fix his head. I imagine having a head that disproportionately large would hurt like hell even with support.
What they did with him is definitely the weirdest they’ve ever done in the MCU. I never would have thought an old bad guy would come back and then turn on the bad guy and die in delusional way (there’s a good chance he has severe brain damage lol) thinking he was a dear friend to the heroes and a hero lmao.
Only a personal belief, but I did like he speech that his and Scott’s fates were forged together because the franchise does deal with that a little bit and because they really did meet and fight by chance.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who just assumed he had brain damage. If not from all the experiments and modifying Kang did on him, then definitely from that hard ass punch to the face.
That makes sense both Hope and Scott were very nice to him considering how awful he was before, they definitely realized that what happened to him was horrifying and he wasn’t all there. Scott did that thing he always does when he stays pleasant when things are bad. He is a people pleaser. Hope had this pity expression on the whole time. She actually knew him well. Heck even Hank was more shocked when he first saw him.
@@nopressure6986 Even in the original Ant-Man Pym explained that Darren wasn't originally evil, but the particles have adverse neurological effects.
He was fun, but also tragic. I hope he can come back again.
And he only used that forehead laser once, well I personally believe that could've came useful in his fights

I always enjoyed Modok in the comics. But him as Darren from the first movie gives him a lot more character. Also the abrupt title card after he says "a lot has happened today-" was hilarious.
A lot of people didn’t like this Modok but he has the goofiness down really well
This feels like it was made as a parody, like spaceballs.
Instead it was confusing and disturbing like that film Police Academy

That's a dumb question.
MODOK in the Comics is an actual force to be reckoned with.
It's normal that people want to actually see it in the Movies.
Same!
I hope to see him in armor wars since in the comics AIM is a huge part of it
That or he could be a good villain for ironheart

Have you read anything I wrote ?
I didn't say he was good in the Movie - hell, he was an atrocity.
But it's not surprising people want to see more of MODOK (the character overall) in the MCU, now that they opened the door for it being possible.
Like obviously scrap the idea of it being Darren.
He's not at all the character from the comics, but let's be honest, with those effects he was never gonna be more than a joke. I'm glad they leaned into it rather than trying to pretend that he was menacing
3:02 The scariest jumpscare I have ever seen
The best character!! I love him ❤❤❤
Imagine if Darth Vader's redemption went like this
"Dad stop. Just don't be a dick."
"My name is Anakin and I am not a dick!"
I actually don't think he is that bad - Aside from the face being goofy. The character arch was good; but what makes the movie "Bad" is lately these movies never treat them as movies rather a continuation of movies with no true ending which defeats the whole purpose of beginning to end, knowing that there is more to come next.
Kinda makes Tony's sacrifice seem worthless seeing that there are universe- hell even MULTIVERSE level threats the heroes defeat every movie now. Repeating cycle ooh big bad guy - good guys struggle - good guys win and make goofy jokes. Oh well it's good cgi and whatnot so hey.
@@mememan2344 well endgame was a crappy movie that made no sense in the first place so that was bound to happen
Character arch? Where?
@David C. that's a very poor opinion there.
Endgame wasn't perfect, sure, but it actually managed to conclude a 11 year long story line better then a lot of franchises can, so you saying it's crap is a middle finger to all the hard work that was put into making Endgame as good as it was.
@@SWDude2710 well, one good example of a franchise failing to conclude their movies are Fast and Furious.
I know people are saying the CGI is bad but this is not the easiest comic book character to make in life action so i think what we got wasn’t so bad.

The best part of the movie:
Giant Cassie
I never thought I would see the villain from shark boy and lava girl again, but here we are.
Having already seen the film, I actually really enjoyed it, and especially M.O.D.O.K and how badass he was, despite his face when unmasked looking pretty weird. The mask definitely makes him look and sound more like a threat, and at least he actually proved to be a threat when in combat, outside of the comedy.
When Im saw him, my mind went haha Humpty Dumpty
I did like how the tied modok into antman 2 I thought it was great and hilarious with his little arms and legs 😂
The arms and legs are regular size
PS2 era graphics
I love how Wasp looks comic accurate especially having that new haircut
HAHAHAHAHA. Kevin you fool!!! THanks I needed the laugh.
I actually liked MODOK in the film. They knew there was no way anyone could take this absurd shit seriously, so they did a good job of making him a comedic villain to counteract the seriousness of Kang. Kept the comedic spirit of the previous Ant Man films alive
He wasn’t really funny in his scenes it’s just the design alone that made people laugh
I can’t take Kang seriously though, there’s some bad acting
It's not that hard to make him serious
That's what Marvel needs. comedy
I would have loved to see modock appear in other projects
I bet Henry Cavill's CG covered mustache in Joss Whedon's Justice League looks pretty good right about now.
nope it still looks worse than this
That’s what DeadPool said to Henry Cavill: it’s not like we’re trying to remove a Mustache.
Just remember. This was greenlt. This thing was created by a team of people before principal photography took place. Nobody saw any issue with this whatsoever.
What sucks about this movie is that he should have been the main villain. Modok should have been the main threat.
It would have been clever if Kang was there as a red herring to set up The Kang Dynasty.
And Modok was literally the main villain throughout the entire film.
Cuz that's what I seriously thought the movie was going to be. Kang of conqueror as a story element to set up his further reach of power and have modoc be his intimidating muscle.
Because we've already known who Darren was in the first Ant-Man film. And we need to have time to get to know Kang as a person or at least know what his style of planning and villainy or just like how we had time with Thanos when he sent out lackeys hunting for the infinity stones.
Kang has a better opportunity here for him to randomly appear and plant the seeds of devastation to lead up his Avengers movie.
But It gets ruined when he's the main villain, and He dies, Only to see variants to reveal that he's not the true one.
They far from over with modok.
Kinda like what they did with Loki and Ronan in the first Avengers and Guardians movie
At least the positive feature of his “mutation” is that Daren’s heart ❤️ likely grew three sizes in the end 💗.
What would have happened if MODOK escaped the Quantum Realm so that he can join forces with Samuel Stern the Leader? How did Cassie Lang managed to get him to have a change of heart only to declare himself an Avenger with his last breath?
I was mind blown when I saw this M.O.D.O.K. Was a still alive Darren/Yellowjacket from antman 1 (2015)
I don’t understand what everyone is mad about. It’s MODOK, a floating guy with a bigass head. The CGI isn’t bad, it’s just what it is.
Me and my stepbrother were laughing when he put his mask up in the theater. Idk how no one else was laughing this is crazy
Here Lies Darren Cross. Protégé, YellowJacket, Ultimate Weapon, Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing, *Dick,* Avenger.
Holy shit, that's big
Like more than 100 people through production looked at this and thought "yeah, this is a good idea and doesn't look idiotic at all"
Je did a good job voiving modok i actually like this one it has more villain human.
3:02 - Kang looked a little scared of his creation xD
He legit looks like he's a baby in a high chair lmao.
Oh, now I get it.
Darren Kross is a clever reference to DK mode from games in the 90s and early aughts.
In light of recent events, I propose that we bin the Kang dynasty so that Marvel can instead make the MODOK dynasty

Funny thing is that this is basically the film in a nutshell.
It ties all together, and also Tv series
The very ending 😂😂😂
Why does he look so much like Mr. Electric from Shark Boy and Lava Girl
You can see how afraid Kang is of the CGI floating head with his facial movements
The Jar Jar Binks and Miz of the MCU
People seem to forget that Modok is supposed to be a goofy looking villain
This movie was basically a Sharkboy and Lavagirl sequel
Im gonna be totally real. This entire time I’ve thought the meme was a joke and people were just ripping on how it looks, but no, they actually fucking went with THAT design. Wow.
Well... it's Humpty Dumpty in a chair equipped with a mask and weapons.
Is that.. Mr. Electric from Sharkboy and Lava girl?
One of the MCU's most overhated movies.
I never knew Timthetatman was in the movie
I loved modok. I thought he was hilarious 😂
I get that it could be hard to take a giant head seriously, but instead of making a joke of him they could've handled stuff in a different way:
Similar to the comics, Darren was mutated on propouse by Kang to serve as a more useful henchman (adding more weight and meaning to his rebellion than "Im not a dick")
Horribly disfigured, he tried to get along with his new "self" to not succumb to madness, at the point to forget who he actually was.
Cassie helps him realize that in the end he still was Darren Cross or something like that.
Ok, thats a lot exaggerate but I still wish they didn't play his death for laughs an gave him at least a moment of redemption to the eyes of his former mentor Hank 😅
I find so stupid Cassie who is clearly a nice person that wants to help everyone doesn't even try to promise Darren to restore him. They had the tech and the brains to do that and she just tells him to stop being a dick, completely unfazed by his tragic state.
@@Movel0I think that relates to the fact that Darren tried to kill her and his dad years ago.
comics MODOK- has human face
MCU Darren Cross MODOK- has human face
thats wrong
I think his face should’ve looked disfigured/wrinkly from after he fought Ant-Man as Yellowjacket. Not only would that make him look more menacing, but also slightly more accurate to his comic look.
I can't take him seriously 😂
He’s formally the Yellowjacket aka modok
I was laughing so hard I nearly choked with my pop corn when I saw him for the first time... That movie was hilariously bad but the sad part is that it had so much potential...
MODOK doesn't even feel like it's the same character as Darren. Same actor, same voice, and still evil, but I find it hard to believe that, even after his crippling defeat in Ant Man 1, Darren would willingly become the servant to Kang. Darren was resentful of Hank, and felt that he had moved on from having to be mentored -- and, in fact, he was pretty damn smart to have reverse engineered Hank's work to make the YellowJacket suit. And while he was kind of a flat, bland kind of evil, he never came across as a joke in the first Ant Man movie -- so to have him turned into comic relief feels jarring.
Plus, the intrinsic goofiness of MODOK aside, it's quite possible to make something as silly as MODOK into something serious and dramatic. If the movie and its characters take something seriously, so do we as the audience. In the Marvel Avengers game, despite its flaws, it managed to make the idea of MODOK into something creepy and serious. The MCU, on the other hand, leaned hard into the silliness of the character, which is exhausting because 90% of recent MCU movies are already oversaturated in silliness.
The problem is Jeff Loveness didn't take MODOK seriously when he was writing the film. In fact, he was baffled with the idea of him being taken seriously, and instead treated him like a joke because of his design. I feel the MCU's leaning to self awareness has made it extremely cynical and disrespectful to the source material, at times feeling as if it hates the comics because it thinks it can do better than them.
They should’ve either made him fully robotic to be 100% accurate to the comics visually.Or lean into the inherent body horror of his design which would’ve also made him feel more unhinged and menacing. This looks like some dude facetiming the vegas dome
I almost yelled WTF during the movie in theaters
looks like a masterpiece to me
He looks more like Egghead… WAIT A MINUTE. WAS EGGHEAD MEANT TO BE IN THIS FILM BUT WAS REPLACED AT THE SECOND WITH MODOK!?!?!? >:0 dude. He’s Ant man’s most iconic comic supervillain. And they had the gal to replace him? That sucks
I think he was ghost’s dad who died in the second film.
Dude what
Egghead is ghosts father and is dead

How can people expect a big head with tiny limbs villain to not be ridiculous in live action?
This is the low point for the MCU right here.
I remember when shills are saying that this is the most accurate look of modok. Lmao!
The MCU needs to come to an end and should’ve with endgame. A decade is long enough and with all these shows, you can tell the movies are suffering through writing and obviously CGI. Nearly every movie since has felt so half assed, weird, and just downright forced upon the viewer. I mean we can all agree how bad the MODOK live action doesn’t look good and HES FORCED. MODOK is his own character, not Yellow Jacket turned into Humpty Dumpty in a chair. In the comics MODOK is full of rage and outright destruction and isn’t whatever the hell this is getting bullied by Kang.
I like his weapons and his battle face mask plate and psonic blast
Darren cross: Yellowjacket!? What happened to him?
I mean in theory it makes sense that Darren would become MODOK
Or at least how he’d be M.O.D.O.K
