- Today we are taking a look at the HPI BlackZon Smyter DB!
A 1/12th Scale RC Car which is perfect for a beginner getting into the RC hobby!
But have we seen this RC Car somewhere before?
This is almost entirely a HBX also known as Haiboxing and that's not a bad thing!
HBX make some amazing RC cars which are super durable and here we have no exception!
I almost completely forgot about this brand but im glad I have now finally had a chance to see what they are about and I am impressed!

Not bad for £89 but I think I would buy the HBX 901A instead! What do you think? Let me know!😎💯👍 There is less than a week to go on the Traxxas Fiesta Rally Raffle enter enter here: raffall.com/beyondrc
Keep up the good work bro, I love all the videos❤
Friction Shocks should be illegal
absolutely!
Yes
I bought my son the smaller truggy version of this and it's great fun with the speed control and steering trim. Good beginner rc.
My sin has had mountains of fun over the 2 years he's had it. I've even blasted woth it an love it.
Came in under £70.
I recommend this brand and plenty of spares available 👍
Very cool!
Your honesty is appreciated! This could have been much better out the box. I hope HPI see this and stop with the friction shocks. The 901a is probably my favorite brushless budget buggy and I own over 100 RC’s.
For myself, when I really notice a basher rc not being fun because its too slow or too small scale, is usually because the using area is too big or not scale to the scale of the rc (small potholes are huge to a small scale rc; on the offhand, it makes you think more tho)
I love this channel, you post so consistently, other channels like, Tommy Rc take while, don’t even get me started on Kevin talbot, he’s got so mutch stuff to do
Thanks FTX i do try to get vids out as consistently as possible. Sometimes weather, family, work or life gets in the way but i try! haha Kev... Top man 😝
Hbx and bezgar both use oil shocks on their versions
It really surprises me that hpi wouldn’t of demanded oilFilled shocks and metal drive shaft. Especially when their name is on the box. Not saying that this is bad at all, but you think hpi would demand a little better. As we can remember Redcat did the same with the 1/16 volcano. They rebranded the cheapest version of of haiboxing’s 16889 and raised the price $20 more than you can buy the Hbx version. They charge more just for the name…. Great overview Rickyand valid points you made! 👍🏻💯😎
Thanks man much appreciated! I agree you would think HPI would have made this slightly more capable having their name on the box.. shame.
Bro, awesome, informative, video as always, thanks for that.
Secondly, a totally unexpected update on my Cayman Pro RTR, the truck that I was writing about when my post kept getting deleted (it was your "Really Cool Brushless RC Crawler" video). Anyhow, I recently left a negative review on their own website, based on my experience with that truck, and they responded today, asking for my address so they can ship me out some parts. Given my experience so far, I am not sure if I expect them to come through, or not, but if they do indeed come through, I will leave another update that they at least made it right, albeit months after the who thing happened. Credit where it is due kind of thing.
I hate to say it, but the wltoys 12429/9 comes with a 550 motor, and has tons of aftermarket parts. For about the same price, you can have a ballistic missile, even brushed. I dig this style of rc car, it offers a lot of options in the way of customization, but plastic CVD's, dogbones, and drive shafts aren't my speed. Great video all the same, I value your objective viewpoints. Keep up the great work, I hope you get to 40k soon!!
Wltoys? Who are they ;) Are they even still around... lol
Phillips hardware and friction dampers are a deal breaker. Basically IMO if it has Phillips hardware and friction dampers it's a toy and only suitable for small children.
We won't stock these anymore because of too many returns. The biggest flaw is the screw that holds the wheels on.... they break every time.
The advantage to all this rebranded stuff is that it makes parts easier to get but it’s probably a tough little thing the tiny battery tray is a bit annoying just have loads of shorty lipos I guess
i agree. the 1600mah 2s i used got me a good 10 mins run time so if anyone buys one i would say get a couple extra batteries
Thanks for the review and thanks for 2 videos in a single weekend. Keeps us occupied .
Thanks Bro!
The Blackzon Smyter MT Turbo is a much better choice for not much more money.
getting one soon :)
the blackzon smyter turbo is quite good mate brushless and 3s for £130
Yeah i seen that as well mate. £130 not a bad price at all will get one to try soon. Wanted to test their more 'basic car' first 😎👍
Some people complain that you complain too much.!!
But I'd like to counter complain about those complainers, because those complainers obviously don't realise that if complainers don't complain then NOTHING gets changed.!
You see, RC manufacturers don't like lots of complaints from complaining complainers.! 😉 😉 😂 😂
And I'm sure we can all agree that friction shocks need to be COMPLAINED INTO OBVLIVION.!!!!! 😉 😉
So I say.. Complain away my friend.!! 👍 👍 👍
I'll complain..
You'll complain..
Others will complain & we'll all complain together until we get our complaints addressed by various complaints departments.!! 👍 👍 👍
Then, we'll all live happily ever after..
KIDDING.!! We'll obviously find something else to complain about.! 😂 😂 😂
Stay safe out there mate & the very best wishes from Scotland 🏴 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️ 👍 👍 👍
Can you please review the turbo version
yes coming :)
Tysm ❤
BlackZon is a great cheap brand
for sure! Parts are easy to come by too!
Buddy . .whats up. 👊🏼😎
Hey 👋 how’s it going 👌😎
this is the hbx 1/14 something, rebranded by hpi
yes for sure.
You somehow make great videos with even shit RC’s… lol. Thanks
hahaha! Great comment I guess I must just be good at my job.. LOL
I will not buy an RC with friction shocks… period
