      I refuse to have my real hatchback be grouped in with this ... enhanced... form. My forehead shouldn't be in line with this thing's rear bumper when I'm stuck behind it in traffic.
      Promote getting the boxy SUV and full utility or get a sleek and well proportioned sedan that can actually handle and look good. No compromise.

    As an owner of an e-tron I can confirm most of what they said. The ride is superb, so smooth and effortless. And it really does not need to be any faster. Range isn’t great but as a second city car for my family it is perfect. We charge at home and work.

    I am actually one of the seemingly 3 people who bought an eTron S Sportback (in bright ass red no less), the precursor to this car that's largely the same. 2 little things from the review, the car will give you individual tire pressures (and temps), it just will only measure them once you get over ~35mph for some reason. I think that's also only on the S version from what people have said on the forums. I also found you can get the car to launch a lot harder by putting it in boost mode and then brake boosting it - according to the power dial it does actually build to about 35% power sitting still iirc.
    As always love the review, just the first time you guys have reviewed a car I own so had to chime in!

      With you on 3 people - bought black sprortback S and white sportback S-line for my wife ~18mo ago :)
      Actually saw 2 other sportbacks on the road in Seattle area after 18mo driving in last few month - guess its not very popular because of shape
      I actually really like lane keeping and driver assist on this car - doesnt require to keep eyes on the road/doesnt have eye sensor. And keeps working until very heavy rain/snow fall starts.
      Never even once felt like it doesn't have enough power on the highway or at the stop light.
      Little heavy, but turns and brakes well too.

    @dil6969 Před 3 měsíci +30

    7:40 - Much like a lot of Hondas and some Mazdas, Audi and VW very often do not use in-wheel pressure sensors for TPMS. They will use the less accurate, but cheaper system of comparing wheel speed signals and making an educated guess that a tire is low if one or more of wheels is spinning a significantly different RPM than the rest.
    This system requires you to calibrate or "store" tire pressures after you top off the air and take it on a chill drive. If a previous reviewer messed with the pressures and never hit "store" after the fact, the light will always come back on. It's a strange choice on a 100K+ car, but at least there's no sensors to run out of battery or get broken during a tire change.

    VW/Audi control logic is hugely entertaining. Move the gear selector forward to go backward and backward to go forward. And the ID4 driver has two window buttons for four windows, so operation is often a two-step process: select front or back before actually operating a window.

      I'll go you one better, there should be a camera/washer module since all camera will inevitably get dirty and become useless. Especially northern climates. You'd think carmakers don't do any winter testing of their cars and couldn't have figured that out on their own.
      You buy a state-of-the-art vehicle and still have to stop and get out to clean the camera lens or go underneath the car to adjust the shocks. Some of the stuff car makers come up with is just goofy. Sorta make you lose confidence in their ability to build safe and reliable cars. You wonder what they were thinking?
      On the other hand, I can image some clueless CO coming in and saying "just do it" and it being put into production simply because the boss said so and not because it makes any sense. I've witnessed that happen in other fields, so I can believe it to be true in car manufacturing too.

    • @_valxp

      @@krane15 the camera wash thing always gets me. Then again it's one of those things that you have to pipe a hose through and extra parts for the washer fluid to get through there. Which sounds simple but complicated and I guess it's one less part to break.
      Not defending anyone here, but when it comes to state of the art, I don't think of a rear camera washer system.

    I have an Etron and a tip for charging: Hold the charging cable in and up while it's initiating and it'll work 100% of the time. It'll usually fail to charge at electrify America stations, but if you just hold the cable in while it's initiating then it works every time. You can let it go once it starts charging.
    Also, the problem with charging is mostly due to the charging infrastructure in Canada which is horrible. I never had any problems charging at home. I drive often 400kms trips and never had any issues since now I know with chargers to use.
    Being one of the few countries that have a majority of the energy production being sustainable, EVs make a lot of sense in Canada.

      - The app is really bad, you need to wait with the app open before being able to tell it to pre-heat (it gets old real fast)
      - No charging scheduling
      - Fast charging is disappointing for an 800V car, the Ioniq 5 (Yes a Hundai!!) charges way faster
      - Base vehicle doesn't get lane centering, cruise control requires you to push the accellerator again when the car is in stop-and-go.
      - Lane keeping is trash and I turn it off because it's more dangerous since it tries to randomly push you out of the road.
      - No ventilated seats -_-
      - I was told that the car has HEPA filters, no it doesn't.
      - The base "surreal sound" sound system is trash.
      - The rear of the car rattles, service didn't fix it so I had to fix it myself.
      - My frunk doesn't open in the winter and gets stuck half open, requiring pushing super hard to close it.
      - Still no andoid auto (they removed it from their website now, yay broken promise)
      - Charging at a 400V charger limits you at 50KW, basically worthless. So when everyone else will charge on the superchargers, Lucid owners will cry at their broken Electrify America chargers.

Maybe if they have dedicated parking with charging but owning an EV and not having a dedicated charging area is a dumb idea. TFL did a how too living with an EV only charging in public and only charging at home on a 110. It was doable for them but it appears that in y’all’s area the public chargers are crap. The handful of public chargers I’ve used I’ve never had a problem. Apparently plugging in at home overnite every two or three days is a bridge too far for some people I guess.

I’ve used it a couple times just to say I did it and I got free charging for a year with my lease. I use my EV6gt as a commuter and have taken it on a weekend trip with my wife once because the hotel we stayed at had free charging. I wouldn’t own an EV if I didn’t have my own charger. Personally I think the whole gas vs EV argument is silly. Both have their purpose and pros and cons, I wish the EV fanboys would understand why EVs don't make good sports cars, and I wish ICE fans would acknowledge the obvious benefits of EVs when it comes to daily drivers. I say this as an enthusiast myself, I've owned several manual transmission sports cars including my current c7 Vette. And I'm telling you, when it comes to daily drivers, a well-executed EV is simply better.
    We have a Jaguar I-PACE EV as our daily driver. This replaced our 970 Panamera Turbo (both of which we bought used btw), a car that most ICE fans would probably agree is a pretty good daily driver in its own right. And I can honestly say the Jag is better in every single way. I don’t miss the Panamera one bit, neither does the wife. With the Jag, there’s no automatic transmission to get confused around town, never getting into a hot or cold car with preconditioning, there’s insane instant torque, the smoothness and refinement is unmatched (not only because no engine noise but also because the 1000 pound battery insulates you from road noise), the use of space is excellent (small on the outside and big on the inside because no engine), low center of gravity, naturally perfect weight distribution, being able to blow by anyone in traffic anytime, never being in the wrong gear, way more efficient, never being late because I had to stop for gas, no maintenance, quicker than most v8 family cars and more efficient than i-4 family cars, etc etc. And even though on paper the panamera was faster 0-60, in real life around town it’s not even close - the Jag would be gone before the panamera would even get into the right gear. Yes, it can be annoying on road trips - but it's not the end of the world unless you road trip all the time. It's the better car 364 days of the year, and the worse car 1 day of the year.
    Having said all of that, like I said I'm an enthusiast, and we also have two sports cars (manual transmission c7 corvette stingray and an R56 Mini Cooper JCW, both of which I frequently use for road rallys and autocross), and I have no desire for either of those to be electric. The whole point of those cars is a visceral, loud, lightweight, connected experience with a manual transmission. I know there is a Boxster EV coming soon and I’m sure it’ll be great and smoke my c7 around any racetrack, but I have no interest at all, even as a current EV owner. Sports cars should be gas powered and manual IMO. So as I said, each has their purpose. I don’t see myself ever going back to gas for daily driver, and I don’t see myself ever going EV for sports cars.
    My point is simple: EVs are better at some things, and gas cars are better at some things. "Taking a side" doesn't make sense, even for enthusiasts. Just acknowledge what the other is better at. EVs dont work for everyone (you need a place to charge and can't road trip all the time etc etc), but if it works in your lifestyle - try it before you knock it is all I'm saying. You might be surprised.
    And like I said - just because a car is EV doesn't make it good. There are good EVs and bad ones, just like gas cars. For example, I' not a huge Tesla fan. But, the well-executed EVs are, in my opinion, the best daily drivers, if they fit into your lifestyle.
    ...and this is coming from someone that's currently on his 8th manual transmission sports car (Vette, Mini JCW, 350Z, etc etc). And to be clear - these are my favorite cars, not the I-PACE. But, I have a wife and a kid, and we need something that isn't manual and has a back seat. And in that category, the Jag is by far and away the best we've had.

    • @krane15
      @krane15 Před 3 měsíci +2

      EV don't make good sports cars? Says who? EV are fine (nobody really care that much about what's powering their cars). If EV got 500 mi people would by them. Even 400 mi would remove their biggest limitation of range anxiety and ease the necessity of having to find chargers that work. As long as the car can outlast the driver they can always charge it overnight.

    • @JamesM-hb2cj
      @JamesM-hb2cj Před 3 měsíci +3

      Just my opinion. Sports cars are not about speed - they’re about fun and engagement. Unless you road trip every single week you don’t need 400 miles of range. What you need in a sports car is fun, lightweight, good exhaust note, manual transmission, etc.

Being a 100k+ CAD car the bottom part of the dash/glovebox/door card and centre console are cheap hard plastics, no ventilated seats and the infotainment is really showing its age (first debuted in 2018 for the C8 A6/7). I agree the suspension and setup is very comfortable and the power is good enough for most people as a daily, but I disagree that the B&O lives up to its price tag, its really hollow and it sounds like you are listening to music in the washroom.
