2 years ago. My brother recreated my drift missile 350z with a hot wheels. He did the custom decals and bodywork down to the rims. I'm 22 years old and to this day. It's the most meaningful gift I've received!

I've lapped round my local track (Sepang International Circuit) 3/4 times on my bike (as in, bicycle) as they occasionally hold events for non-motorsporting activities and hoo baby, that race asphalt is so much smoother than street asphalt! I even stuck a map layout of the track on my bike to be familiar with the layout and a few laps later, I now know every turn and elevation point of the track.
I NEED to do the same with a car next! (I don't have a track-capable car tho)
I drew my then-boyfriend’s dad’s project bel air as their Christmas card one year, glad to hear it was a good call! He seemed really stoked about it but as a non-car person I was super nervous about messing up the little details.

11:23 this deserves boat. My first lego kit was a semi truck (just the front part) and even tho it was just a dumb truck it had some really cool features like flexible tubing to make the smoke stacks. I dont think it matters what car it is as long as you enjoy the build process and find something interesting about it

I 100% agree. Nolan and James said a G.O.A.T. test is something you want, but wouldn’t buy for yourself. For me, the lego set I received is exactly that. My family came together to get me a 991 Porsche GT3 RS technic set for graduating high school. At 17 years old I wasn’t willing to spend $300 on a lego set. But now that I’m about to finish college, when I can actually afford this set, it costs $700 on eBay. So, super glad my fam got it for me, strait G.O.A.T. Also, if anyone is curious a lot of lego sets mad inflate after they retire and grow as much as 30% per year. Cheers

Man, I really think the tools one is somewhere between Dece and Thanks unless they've talked to you about it before hand. It's just really easy to end up with a duplicate of a tool you already own or a tool that isn't the right size, power, etc for what you need. The detail gift though? That's GOAT.

The tools are also good for a car enthusiast who doesn’t have any tools for whatever reason. My dad loves cars and we love working on cars together but he had to borrow some tools. Got him his own set for Christmas. They weren’t to special but he loved it
Real talk, those universal sockets are great! I have one in each car road tool kit and one in my home set. They work on so many sizes, stripped nuts/bolts, weird shapes like hooks and screw eyes, etc. They're not the strongest so don't expect to break any super stuck bolts loose with this, but it will save you in a pinch.

I was given a non running project car. A 98 dodge stratus. I accepted it graciously because the first car I ever bought was a 97 dodge stratus. Just to make it street worthy, I had to replace the water pump and battery. Still need new tires and a new windshield. But I have started compiling a wish list for the other parts, headlights, body kit, turbo kit for the 2.4L motor. Thanks to Money pit, I have the list I need and advice to start this project. Thank you all for what you do.

Best car gift I ever got was back in the day when I just got my first car which was a 1998 Nissan Maxima, a friend of mine that I also kind of hustled with called me one day and told me to meet him at our neighborhood tuner/performance shop...when I pulled up he comes walking out with a bunch of boxes, and he had brand new aftermarket tail lights, LED running boards, and a new aftermarket grill. All of it was nice high end stuff that I wanted at the time, except I never really told him specifically what, or that I wanted those things. He just knew I was into the tuner scene (so was he), so he got them for me. Unfortunately years later, that car was destroyed in a street race, with the same guy that got me that stuff sitting in the passenger seat next to me - wasn’t really my fault tho, some guy blew a red light and I T-boned him.
A shift knob is way too personal. The chance of someone getting you the exact kind you want and like is very rare. The buyer shouldn't even risk it.

Idk, I fell like that’s also what would potentially make it a really incredible gift. The kind of thing reserved for only your best car guy buddy or your S.O. Because if they get it right it shows that they payed enough attention to your driving style that they know exactly the kind of shift knob you prefer. To me, someone getting me a shift knob and getting it right would be like them saying they admire my driving, and the shift knob is proof of that. Now idk about you but as a car guy there’s no greater compliment.

@@antonsjoberg Dewalt is considered pretty good, there are definitely more expensive options though. Most contractors I've worked with seem to prefer going with all Dewalt stuff. I've been really surprised with ryobi with a budget.

I had one of those socket tools, they’re really cool. Awesome for unscrewing, kinda ok for screwing in.
So my family did get me a that universal socket they work surprisingly well like I thought it would be cheap and just break but I've used it just for some fun and if you ever get in a situation on the road we're you need a socket from size 5-14 it works and it's also nice not having to switch your socket on projects its definitely a thanks and a tool I enjoy having

I have a B&D 20v drill with the swappable heads on it, and I have used the *SHIT* out of it from my cars to my house. Dropped it, replaced batteries, and the thing has been amazing. Funny enough it was a gift from my now-ex-inlaws. Mo Money =/= Mo Bettah when it comes to tools. It's about quality.

With go-karting, I was gifted this one year and it was honestly amazing. I was never really into go-karting, but my parents gifted me a professional go-kart experience where I got to do laps in a professional level go-cart that could easily travel over 100mph. It was honestly one of the coolest experiences I never thought I needed. Obviously this is subjective because of experience, but I can see how some people wouldn’t want it. I think it’d be different based on what kind of karting experience you gifted. One at like a local track might be fun but also boring, but a professional karting experience may be a surprise to them

A friend of mine once owned a RHD (in Britain) White De Tomaso Pantera with gold split rim Revolution 5 spoke wheels. I bought a standard model kit of a Tomaso, converted it to RHD made the correct style rear wing and body kit to his old car and machined from brass and aluminium scale correct rims. I am a pretty accomplished model builder and I won't deny I was MEGA proud of my efforts. It looked awesome. He stuffed it on the back of a shelf and within a year the trash. I haven't seen him for over 10 years now.

I have a craftsman universal socket and it is literally what I use unless it can't fit in the area or its to tight a bolt it works like a charm
Bro the universal socket did save me once😂 I had a lug nut that didn’t fit the same size as the rest and the universal socket was the only thing I could get it off with so 100% a boat

Sometimes they can be useful. My dad owns a 1968 VW Beetle, and the steering wheel is original, but worn. So the steering wheel hurts to use. Gloves could prevent that.

As someone who loves legos (but haven’t gotten my hands on a set in a WHILE) spending a long time in putting together a set that’s then going to be on a shelf makes it worthy of the shelf. If it was a couple pieces and slapped together quickly then it would just feel tacky.. what I love about lego builds that are on a shelf is when you start looking closer and you realize how intricate it is..
I actually think the portable espresso machine would have been a great accessory for high truck, mostly for the camping aspect of it. But for like a normal daily driver commuter vehicle, nah.

Those universal sockets are made by stanley. I have one and I use it every time I work on my car. It came with my socket wrench. Its pretty good
My wife bought me the multi sized socket you showed. Works good, not great but good. Can't use on anything deep but does come in handy. Was a definite thanks gift.

Those universal sockets actually work well. Had to take the seat belts out of my can and didn't have a socket that fit it and this thing worked.
I agree with most of what you guys said but when you rent the car jump start it kind of made me think of a funny time when I asked my parents for one of those for a gift, I wanted a specific nice one that had like lights and USB chargers and a bunch of features and it was because my car consistently would have its battery die, and I would have to wait for someone to come jump start me watch especially when I was working as a driver sucked, and they got me one so I was excited and I've used it like 70 times now to start my car again lol so it's definitely paid for itself

I bought one of those universal sockets as part of my Adventure bike toolkit as a space saver.... they are not good lol. While it seems like they would work in theory, its really only good for lets say reasonably snug bolts. Stuff that is in there tight, like the axle nut on a 2003 KLR 650 for a random example, will break these.
I got a universal socket for Christmas and I use it alot I use it when I don't feel like digging through my sockets to find the right size
