    Great video! I would love to see a new output mode in a firmware update where tracks a and b can be routed to the stereo outputs separately. For example track a to out L and track b to out R in multi and sync mode. That way the sound engineer can mix each track individually like percussion on one and loop guitar/vocal in the other.

    Great video John, when I first heard about Ed’s fantastic looper’s, I checked them out & watched a few vids, but my thoughts were that Ed & Headrush must bring out an in between model that does everything the + model does & most of what the fantastic flagship does for around £800 that makes it more affordable than the X at around £1300, makes sense I think 🤔

    "Chewie" isn't a standalone looper its actually a pc and a custom pedal board interface. He had to do it because the sound quality of a normal looper wasn't good enough for a large sound system and there were other features that the sound engineers needed

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Před 3 měsíci

      Technically Chewie ii is a midi controller as Ed has 4 on stage all doing the same thing, all talking to software that is at the engineering booth called Mobius. It’s quite an old looper program but was solid but they have leaned on the Headrush hardware for the consumer versions of + and x. 👍🏻

    Great content! I recently bought the Looper + to see if it could function like my Jamsync Pedals when used with my SDRUM. I don't often play with a live drummer, so for years I've set my Jamsync Pedals to start recording a loop on the downbeat of the drum part. However, it seems that the Looper + begins recording on the next clock beat instead of the downbeat, and it also stops on the next clock beat. In contrast, the Jamsync stops at the end of the measure.
    This timing mismatch doesn't work for me, and I'm not willing to relearn every song in our set. It's a shame because the pedal has a great design and feels good to use. I appreciate the ability to adjust the input and output to mix with other sounds. I believe I have it set up correctly-it's connected to the SDRUM via a 3.5mm cable, and I've adjusted the settings to receive the MIDI Clock signal.
    Do you have any suggestions on how I can get the Looper + to function the way I need it to?

    I don’t know what others think are we paying a premium for a name ,time will tell at the moment
    I would personally go for a boss RC 500 it’s cheaper as well. Connectivity better an extra pedal button also built like a tank and you can pick them up on the secondhand market even cheaper Boss actually still hold most of the cups when it comes to looper pedals
    Boss also do a similar pedal the well liked RC 30, that would probably save you a couple of hundred pounds as for specs iam not sure how they measure up
    What do you guys think?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I certainly wouldn’t buy an RC-30 now.. simply cause if the audio quality. It’s 16 bit at 44.1khz - like an mp3! Might be alright for home use but gigging.. no way!
      With 32-bit there is no worry of audio decay the more you add on in terms of overdubbing.
      There are lots of loopers out there and that’s good cause it means choice.

    John do you possibly have a Sheeran X vs RC-600 video coming down the pike? I'm considering moving on from the Headrush Looperboard but I'm in no rush and I was wondering which way to go. I'm more used to the workflow of the HRLB and I hear that X's work flow is quite different relying on muting tracks rather than them completely stopping and starting up again from the beginning of the loop.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Před měsícem

      Hey 👋
      So it is in the pipeline as soon as I can get hold of one. I did do a HRLB Vs RC-600 video a while back but as you mentioned the workflow is different for the Sheeran X. The two major things that I can see is the muting you mentioned.. and also the way the effects work is very different too. They are tied to the track. So you have to select the track with the effect on and it will work. This is also part of Ed’s workflow which is unique and might not suit everyone.
      HOWEVER.. they have mentioned they are working of software / firmware updates with the Sheeran X and maybe that will change.
      The RC-600 is Much more flexible when it comes to things like that but then it’s more work. Have a look at the HRLB vs RC-600 video if you haven’t already. But as SOON as I get one.. this is the video I want to make.

    I'm enjoying the superb 'silent' pedals too and the weight and feet, but I don't think it has bypass - unless I'm using it wrong? I don't like the way the master volume now controls the volume of my guitar, like it's a sort of pre amp? Do you know what I mean? Maybe you've found a way of working this but unless I have the looper on in my chain of pedals I don't get a signal. Any thoughts? Great video, thanks! You are right - it is a monster pedal and all the positives are true!

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Před 2 měsíci

      That’s interesting cause most major loopers work in this way where they are the controller of all and not like a traditional guitar pedal where you bypass the looper. Ironically there are a few smaller loopers like the dittos and the cheap ones that have a true bypass.
      Best to put the looper at the end of the chain.
      You should still get a signal though and it act as a through.. but you just need to keep the main volume up. Hope that makes sense.

    So I am fairly useless at the little bit of looping I have done on the VE8 looper, which is pretty basic. I use VE8 for guitar effects, reverb, harmonies at open mics and the looper is sort of "better give it a go as it is there", usually ending in a mess despite the rehearsal going ok. Anyway enough of the background. If I was to buy a basic looper to try and get better at this stuff, would the RC500 or the Sheeran be the better bet. I am thinking the Sheeran Looper+ is an easier thing to get going on, but I am reasonably technical so maybe the RC500 is also a possibility. I guess a compare between the two for a looping beginner would be good. I could also get a single button looper , rc5 or similar but that just seems too difficult as there is no way the double tap to stop thing is beginner friendly, the VE8 does that and I had to connect a FS5U configured for "stop" to stand a hope of being confident enough for an open mic display of my looping disasters !

      for now, the sheeran looper is easier and those pedals are glorious but has less features than the rc500. maybe that will change with software.
      Have a look at this live stream I did a while back about basic looping techniques.

    Hello….does this looper allow to “switch” between the tracks ? If not which looper does it ? By switch I mean changing tracks without having to play them ….like when you play the 2nd track the first one must stop automatically

      Yes. So you can have song mode with will switch between track A & B, like a verse and a chorus type. 👌

    Hi ... I used to loop with a voicelive 3 extreme .. is a very nice all in one gadget but I'm afraid about is annold device with no updstes so I moved on to a loopy pro system ... It seems there's no limits with this system ... Then the sheeran loopers seems an all in one system as well ... What do you think ? Can you compare ? Pros and cons ? Thx a lot !!

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Před 4 měsíci

      hey 👋
      I think it would be unfair to compare something like Loopy Pro to the Sheeran Looper +
      maybe comparison to the Looper X. the advantage of Loopy Pro is that you are only limited by the processing power of the iPad and you can use AUV3 plugins. however, you then need more cables, an audio interface, a foot pedal if you need one and it’s not a dedicated machine. these hardware loopers are dedicated to do a few jobs really well. even though I love Loopy HD and Loopy Pro, I default to Hardware loopers for performing as there is technically less to go wrong. It depends on your situation but mainly, most people want something built like a tank for performances. however, go down the Hardware looper route, you are then bound by the limitations and software updates they bring.
      hope this makes sense as they are 2 different roads.

Thx a lot for your thoughs and infos !!!!

    One reviewer commented that there is no way to adjust the output level volume on this looper. This is the one thing stopping me from buying one. Is this information correct? Did you find this an issue?

    What do you think about rc 600. I am confused about which one should I buy - looper x or rc 600? Is sheeran looper x better than rc 600?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Před 3 měsíci +2

      I haven’t use the X yet. Mainly cause they are out of stock where I am atm. However those pedals are awesome. The RC-600 is my main looper at the moment for quite a few reasons but mainly cause I know it the most.
      I have the Headrush Looperboard and I love it cause of its touch screen and ease of use but the Sheeran Looper X works off muting loops and has a different workflow. Also the FX you have to assign to a specific track. That’s cool but atm you can’t assign an fx to an input which would make more sense to me.
      The Sheeran looper x is brand new and still has a way to go regarding firmware and updates.
      But those pedals are THE BEST I’ve ever used. And the 4x combo ports is great! The routing on the HRLB is amazing and so simple where your not menu diving in and out of different place like the RC-600.
      But finally, price. Atm I can get (almost) 3x RC-600’s for just one Looper X. That’s a real bummer but prices can always change
      Hope this helps

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK sheeran looper x has option to chose pre and postfader in mixer section. Pre is for input effect and post is track effect. I saw a youtube video of a guy using it that way.

    Am i right in thinking that it has no separate " output/loop level".
    For instance on the Boss VE8 and most loopers you have a separate level to control the level of your recorded loop and your input.
    In a live situation i can see that being problematic.
    Please confirm

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Před 11 dny

      Hey 👋
      Yes that is correct.
      You can however in the system settings split the output - Select Split to send the loop audio output to the L (Mono) output and the dry audio input to the R output. Therefore sending to a mixer or sound engineer. Hope this helps.

    Is it possible to plug a different instrument instead of a microphone into the mic input, such as a synth or guitar? I'm a drummer that can't sing (haha), but would like to loop stereo drums through the AB inputs, along side simple melodies. I can't seem to find a looper with multiple inputs that's not $$$ or too complex for my goals. The big pedals are the main attraction for me.

    The price for the large one is ridiculous.. the smaller looks ok but you can get a 2nd hand boss or Vox cheaper.. and what about fx’s? The lil Vox is multi fx and it’s 10 years old?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  Před 3 měsíci +1

      The looper is the best pedals I’ve ever used!
      Sturdy but not so tough you can’t press them. The feet on the box are huge and it doesn’t go anywhere. Great sound. But yes there is a price tag. And no fx on the plus looper.
      Also you gotta remember audio quality. Yes I could get a pedal that’s 10 years old for cheaper but it’s 16bit - like mp3 quality! And that has a huge affect on overdubs and overall sound quality when I comes to performing. Just bear that in mind.
