LEGO Racers but with Stunt Rally View

- Having played both LEGO Racers and LEGO Stunt Rally, I was curious: what would a combination of these two games look like? So I came up with the idea of LEGO Racers but with the perspective of LEGO Stunt Rally. I definitely bit of a lot more than I could chew with this project.
I started of by planning out the whole video before I made anything. Firstly there was a decision to be made about what map would suit this new view the best. Most importantly, the amount of interior/cave sections had to be very low. I have to remove all of the roofs and walls to make sure you can still see the cars. Knightmare-athon was the one I decided to use. But Desert Adventure Dragway and Royal Knights Raceway were also considered.
When everything was planned out, it was time to start building the map, I imported the original map from the game. Which filled me with nostalgia. I felt the same way with the LEGO Island in VR video, it's such a strange yet cool feeling to see the inner workings of a map you've spend so much time on as a child. The walls were raised, the roofs removed and certain 3D models improved.
Then it was time to lay out the animation. I firstly animated the "main" car. After that I animated the opponent cars. When you play LEGO Stunt Rally, you'll notice how much of the time you spend driving alone. You only really see the other drivers at the start. I wanted to have that same feeling with this video, but to a lesser degree. So there are sections were all of the drivers are on screen and sections were the main car is the only one. Then it was time for the powerups. And ohh boy, did I underestimate the amount of work of this. Keeping track of what bricks what car has picked up was really difficult. It's also very important that the character of the opponents are still there. So Captain Redbeard favours the red bricks, King Kahuka the blue ones and Basil the Batlord pretty much of all of them. The scene was rendered multiple times because of wrong powerup selections.
At the end of the day I'm quite happy with the result. I still see a lot of areas where it could have been better. But I think it gives a great idea of what this game would feel like if it used this perspective. Thank you for watching and hopefully you liked it!

Welcome to Studframe Animations! I create fun LEGO animations. Mostly about older games.😁
Instagram: studframeanimations - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Really cool to see the old games get some love
Thank you! My channel is dedicated to bring these classic games back to life. 😁
The crossover we didn't know we need until now 🫡
Glad to hear it! 😁
I don't think I've ever seen a video so niche with such high effort put into it. Very impressive stuff - Animation looks great!
Thank you so much! I appreciate that! ❤️
Super cool seeing this track from this perspective, now if only Stunt Rally could be played from Racer's perspective...
Glad you like it! Would be cool if someone can actually make this game happen. 😜
..King Kahuka goes exclusively for shields, just like in the real game, wow, crazy attention to detail there!
Thank you! Glad you noticed it! 😁
If any game developers are watching, look no further for inspiration! "Lego Stunt Racers" could become a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2-esque winning combination!
I hope somebody is able to develop it. Would be so cool. 😁
Dude, do you have any idea how cool this is!? My nostalgia is punching me in the face so hard.
Knight-mare-athon looks SOO GOOOD!!!! You def picked one of the most iconic tracks.
As I was watching it definitely looked like all everyone's brick usage lined up. And then reading that you actually laid it all out and planned the whole thing, made it even better.
The dashcam in the corner was really neat as well. Seeing your character's face the whole time was so funny. And come to think of it, everything that we saw from the dashcam pov lined up as well, idk if that was a realtime camera or how you did that but it looks so nice! And the victory screen! WITH MR X HIMSELF!! 😲
This is probably my favorite animation from you, excellent work all around!!
Thank you so much for your comment! I appreciate that a lot! The dashcam was indeed realtime. In LEGO Stunt Rally it's just a basic background and it always bothered me as a child that it wasn't real. So I changed that. 😋
Thanks again for you awesome comment!
I liked the video before, but now I've just read your description, and wow. That's a heck of a lot of thought put into this short animation. I wouldn't have even considered what pickups each would have. Fantastic job again.
Thank you so much! I like to document the steps in the description so people who want to learn about animation can maybe see how I did it. It’s always cool to see how it’s made. 😁
This is so cool. I never thought I would see a crossover like this. I love that the window in the bottom left is a real alternative angle of the race. It's very clean looking. Great work!
Thank you so much! 😁
That was a close race at the end! Great idea, love the animation.
Thank you so much! 😄
I'm impressed.
Thank you! 😁
The perfect game does exi...
Hahah I'm not sure if it's an improvement over the original LEGO Racers game. But it's a fun spin on things. 😋
I did not expect this to be well made as well as being this recent, but hey it's actually really cool!
Of course I also grew up on both games. Why else would I be here?
... err... that's it for me.
Thank you so much! I’m happy you like it. My channel is dedicated to bringing these classic games back to life. 😁
This is so cool. I played both of these game so much as a kid.
Thank you! Glad it brought back fond memories. 😁
amazing work! That's a bunch of modelling and sound design. Nice job studframe.
Thank you! I appreciate that! 😁
I love your work man, i just wish these are real games 😂😂😂
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it. I hope that one day someone is able to make these games. 😋
Brilliant!!! They should hire you to remaster those games!!!
Thank you so much! Let’s hope a remaster will happen! 😁
Imagine if we get an alternate version with a switched view.
That would be cool! Top view, third person AND first person.
This is so good! You absolutely nailed the style, great job
Thank you so much! ❤️
It would be interesting if you could assemble the cars.
Assemble them how? Like in LEGO Racers 1 and 2?
I would like remake this game
Your animations very nice
Thank you! Remake this as an actual game? Keep me posted on how that goes. I’m curious.😁
These are truly just brilliant lol. Man is singlehandedly carrying the Lego Racers content scene on his back
Thank you so much! I do my best to keep this classic game alive! 😋
@@StudframeAnimations keep it up king 👑
That is cursed! Haha! I was so dissapointed when I got Stunt rally. This view did it no favors, same with the autosteer. The music, atmosphere and props were top tier tho. I hope you will make the reverse in the future :)
Also, today is 24 years ago since I got Lego Racers. I had to play it today too. What a game. The birthday gift that defined a childhood.
Yeah, this view is not as interesting as a third person/first person racing game. But it puts a fun twist on things. I might make the reverse some day.
Congrats on your LEGO Racers anniversary. It's awesome that this game still makes you happy. 😁
This looks super impressive! Imagine the using the speed warp on this map
Thank you so much! I had no idea how to make the warp speed look good with this view. 😂
@@StudframeAnimations This must have taken a long time to make with the entire track, the three other racers and all the bricks and powerups used
@@Nowhere536 Yeah this was a big project. It took around three weeks, working in the evenings and weekends. Most of the time was spent on the opponent drivers and their pickups.
Woah mooi werk zeg!
This is art.
Thank you so much! ❤️
This is simply fantastic
Thank you so much! ❤
Did you make the whole map by yourself? It looks like a replica. well done I wish this was a real game. I played lego racers 1 and 2 and also stunt rally
Thank you! It's the original map with the original textures from the game. I modified it a bit to make it work for this animation. 😁
Great idea. I always wanted to play stunt rally with Racers View 😄
Thank you! It puts a fun spin on things. 😁
I wonder what will happen when you get the warp with *"Lego Stunt Rally"* view?
I thought about that, but I had no idea what it should look like from this view. Think it would look really strange. 😂
@@StudframeAnimations Yeah, And it would be weird if it was the *"Lego: 2K Drive"* style warp, With the warp speed.
The two best LEGO racing games added into one!
Thanks for watching! 😁
Imagine the Gsmeboy Color version.
I’ve never played that version, i also did not even know it existed. 😂
There is a certain charm about Gameboy games that is hard to match with a modern look.
Incredible!!
Thank you! ❤
this is just beautiful :D
Thank you so much! ❤️
This has been in the back of my mind two weeks now, but I suddenly figured what was bothering me. The driving physics is based on LSR rather than LR1? Because the lack of airtime and no drifting through the 90 degree turns really threw me off. 😅
Hahah yeah could have done that, but I thought it would be frustrating too watch. 😜
@@StudframeAnimations Nono, the attention to detail is just what makes your videos so good. Case in point the LI2 VR you just uploaded. The more faithfull the better. Thanks for making those small breaks in the daily adult life. It is soothing to just go with the flow in worlds that I used to visit and see them having evolved and seen in a new way.
@@TufteMotorsport That’s great! I’m glad you enjoy the videos. I’ll keep it up. 😁
Hey man, This may sound crazy but.
How would you feel about.
Doing a *"Sky Cup Grand Prix"* Race, From *"Lego: 2K Drive"*
In a *"Lego: Stunt Rally"* style or view?
I like the idea! But I've never played 2K Drive before. I think I have to play it first to understand what makes that race interesting. Maybe in the future. 😁
@@StudframeAnimations We'll I can tell you what it is through two ways.
A through video.
Or through a description describing the track that's literally in the sky's.
That's why it's named *"The Sky Cup Grand Prix"*
@@TyrinOConnor-Cherrington Thanks! I rather play the game. I think that’s the only way to truly understand what makes it great. For now I have my hands full with the classic games. 😜
@@StudframeAnimations Yeah, Classics first.
Modern Last.
Because the reason I went for Lego *"2K Drive"* Is because it make me feel like I'm playing the original *"Lego Racer's"*
But I can't get the game in New Zealand.
Or Play it on the *"Nintendo Switch: Online Expansion Pack: N64"*
And can't go ride the ride version of the game.
With the same name at *"Legoland: Windsor"*
@@TyrinOConnor-Cherrington I assume that 2K Drive is probably much more enjoyable to play by todays standards anyway. So enjoy! 😁
Whats captain red beard doing in knight mar athon
King Kahuka is here as well. I thought it would be fun to race the different champions. 😁
Add back the shortcut 😭
I was considering that, but was worried that it would confuse people. 😋
