HIT THE BELL & TELL A FRIEND ABOUT ME. - Zábava
You have witnessed one of the greatest build ups to a single moment in your lifetime.
Almost 4 minutes into the song
You got that right - worth every second too!
Gives you chills and your hair raises. Phil Collins is the man!
Agreed
I agree kick a** drums!!!
This is one of the many reasons growing up in the '80s was so freaking great
I'm with you on that
Best time of my life. Wish I had a time machine.
I want to go back so damn bad!!
You got that right bro I wouldn't change it for the world the way things were in the 80s was just too good
Absolutely! 🎯
Man, I always love seeing people's first reaction to that drum break down! He beats those things like they owe him money and they DO pay out!
Facts!!!❤
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I am amazed how he can sing and drum at the same time!
Me too, 66, living in North Carolina, I can say I saw Genesis perform Lamb lies down on Broadway when I was 17. Damn if I only knew then, what I know now, an old cliché but shoot how profoundly accurate!!
IKR!! It never ever gets old!!
The crowd’s reaction before the drum drop cause they know sh** is about to get real. Gives me chills!
Ikr .. my thoughts exactly...they knew he was about to beat them drums like they owed him money😂
The audience was waiting the whole time for those drums.
At this point I think everyone waits for those drums. :D
Yes, and you can hear the crowd roaring as he approaches those drum. Great moment.
YES WE WERE
@@LordLOC And the reaction to those drums for those who have never heard them before! LOLOL
who wasn't?! 😂
From this day forward, when you hear this song, you will not be able to stop listening until you've heard those drums. It's just the way it is...
In an interview, Phil Collins said that he didn't really know what this song was about specifically. He was going through a nasty divorce and some other personal issues at the time. It's mostly just pain, rage, and disillusionment all rolled up into a song. You can hear it in there, too. Even now.
Yes.
Facts
This pos phill Collins was such an anti-Reagan, and this song is a call to arms against Reagan helping bring down the Soviet union. If you don't know about his anti-Reagan stances, watch the video about "Land of confusion."
I stopped viewing his videos or listening to his music a very long time ago. He and every leftist marxist who ridiculed, mucked, and protested against Reagan ought to say "Thank You for giving us, the world, a little time of peace. Where it not for Reagan, the USSR would've torched many nations in their quest to stay a super power, as it would've kicked and thrown temper tantrums as it was finally eating from within.
Exactly . Brilliant song
I read an article that he said it was about him witnessing a bad crime. The criminal didn't think anyone saw. Phil did. That's why he said "if you were drowning I would not lend a hand"
Imagine going to a concert and hearing your favorite song preformed better than you will ever experience it.
the songs bout his ex. "you told me you were drowning, i would not lend a hand" the emotions are still as raw and pure as they were before he wrote it. just the pure intensity of his face, eyes, and movements screams he still feels it today. the emotions of loosing his best friend, soul mate, and the foreshadowing of what his kids would go thru with the divorce just thrown out there for all the world to see. i dont know bout yall, but knowing the backstory you can feel his emotions. he taps into it so easily. tells the story of his life and you dont just hear it but you FEEL it. a man who can tell a tale and evoke raw emotions like that is a legend
We can all be thankful that he transformed all that pain and anguish into this perfect creation for us all to experience! Thank you Phil!!!
The audience went crazy BEFORE he sat down because they knew what was coming!!😂 His son Nicholas is following in his footsteps as another great drummer. Phil started as a drummer. But he not only drums and sings. He arranges, composes, directs and produces. He did the entire sound track for the Disney animated movie Tarzan. Check it out (with your kids) if you haven't already. 😊
Hello..when he wrote the song Against all odds he won for the Oscar too I belive..loved you info
Drummer first singer second, absolutely brilliant at both!
Phil Collins with the best 5 minutes of foreplay in the history of music!
Hands down the greatest drum solo in music history.
Facts!!!
@@cjturner370 Big facts, its not even that intricate but just the way it hits is so hard; even after having heard it a million times that drop NEVER dissapoints
It's practically impossible to sing like that while your body is moving on the drums. He is absolutely exquisite and incomparable.
It’s difficult to play the drums and sing at the same time. Phil is unbelievable. I’m 45 years old and grew up listening to Genesis and Phil’s solo albums. The 80’s-90’s and the 00’s were amazing for music. Especially the 90’s.
I’ve seen this a hundred times and I still get chills at the drum solo. We ALL become air drummers at that point.
I've heard this song mostly all of my life and that drum part gives me chills every time
It will never not be awesome lol
You been waiting for that moment all your life!
@@ozzyfoster3188
I see what you did there... 👁👁👀😅
One of the very elite group of people who could keep the attention of thousands with just his voice
He use to be a choir boy....when young...that's why his voice is angelic....😅
Never gets tired of watching the beat drop and you guys aren't ready for it...Phil is one of the best drummers of all time!!!!!!!!
It's sad that Phil can no longer play the drums (due to his wrists not being strong enough), but when he could, he was one of the best ever. He is ranked in the top 50 in Rolling Stones 100 Best Drummers.
I recently saw a reactor doing this song but they did the live version on a talk show. Phil was not able to drum. I told him he had just done himself and his followers a disservice.
On the radio I heard while he couldn't perform on the drums anymore that his son took over while Phil sang. That has to be a dream come true
Supposedly Phil returned from a tour and found out his 1rst wife had been having been having an affair and left him. When Phil found out who the guy was he realized he knew him. The song is more for the man who took his wife. "Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand. I've seen your face before my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am."
This is how you tell a story instead of only singing it. This is pro and next level af.
The control in his voice while he pounds on those drums it just shows you how very talented this man is! He’s a musical genius!
Phil Collins plays almost every instrument there is.... In one of the videos it shows him playing at least 20 instruments... He is Amazing and he speaks several languages 😁
By the way, “long beard dude” is THE one and only Leland Sklar, who has played session bass and on tours for many many huge acts. He is legendary in his own right.
Lee has his own CZcams channel. Lee has been involved with many famous musicians and has been on 1000s of recordings.
yep, can't mistake Leland...
Yaaaas! Phil plays with only the best
@@ratboy2164 ....and Leland is the very, very, very best 🙋🏽♀️👍🏽💛
Yes and he actually remembers all those tours and sessions because he stayed away from the drugs and alcohol that so many in the industry fell victim to.
Phil Collins is a genius; the arrangement; blue lights; whistling, the fans; he has total control, his fans let us know what's up; his voice changes when he walks up the steps; when he gets on the drums he doesn't hold back; 1st reactions are priceless
The intense beginning was to take you to the drum part. When headed to the drums and they lit up, you could hear the crowd begin to cheer. It is what they had been waiting for. It’s what everyone waits for listening to this song and it is always exciting, no matter how many times you hear it. It is magic.
AMEN
So true, it still gets me after all these years!! Never gets old!! ❤
Yessss!!!!
His drumming is insane! One of his sets can only be replicated accurately by two people playing on one set at once.
U hear how he hits on da down/off beat in his timing. Pure mastery.
When people say "wait for the beat to drop" etc this is literally the prime example of that. One of the most iconic songs and drum riffs ever. This is an extended concert version with some extra drums at the end also, which kicks major ass. :)
I've been listening to Phil Collins forever I am 62 years old I remember when this song came out
When I was a teen I had the biggest crush on him. His voice reaches your heart and soul. Nothing you can do but fall in love!
In 1990 I was at a California Pizza Kitchen in West Hollywood when this song came on. When the killer drum riff kicked in the entire place shook with people beating on the tables and bar in time with Phil. It was one of the coolest group music experiences I've ever had, and I've been to a shitload of rock concerts during my 59 years on planet Earth, starting with Alice Cooper in 1976.
aaaaand this is why phil is one of the few artists, that has sold an obscene amount of records as part of a group AND as solo artist.
Yeah he went solo AND still made music and toured with the band Genesis!
Very skilled and talented musician!
Well you know he has to be good. Not just anybody can have their drum intro five or so minutes into the song and expect people to like it.
@@bromixsr It's outrageous really, but I still search for reaction videos every day!!
Yup
@@thomassmith2227 same
Every time I see somebody watch this for the first time they're energized, they're pumped, you feel alive. This song will never get old. Phil Collins has a hit that is just awesome 30 years later, great music never gets stale.
Maybe it's my mood but the drum part and his belting it out brings me to tears. Feel emotional. Thank you for the great reaction. ❤
EVERYONE that knows this song anxiously waits for that epic drum solo! What a legend🤘
I about died laughing when he hit the drums and you jumped up! This is the difference between an artist and a MUSICIAN! You gotta get your hands dirty and learn to earn that title!
That was pure magic. Its been a while since i did the same thing. It brought back sweet memories for me. Much love. X
I would say that Phil Collins has earned both titles. What he does with the drums is pure art.
This song here: the master class in how to build up suspense, anticipation through music dynamics. No wonder it is in so many soundtracks.
Phil Collins is a Legend. You reaction is perfect!!! Love it
It's worth the wait! 😉 And then he gonna ask did we hear him? It's only the most famous drum riff EVER! Yeah the whole world heard him! ♥️😂
😂
I love to see when this Generation react our 80's music and artists thank u
I was cut off from the world. If I understand the Twins were raised Christian music only.
I love it when dj’s post this song..the expression on their faces, the bugged out eyeballs and the fallen lower jaw, is priceless!
60's and 70's too
agree, this is why rock n roll will never die. There is no denying its greatness, talent and vision we were so lucky to live during that era of music
"He tapped into my heritage!"
LOL!
With that drum entrance, Phil Collins pulls out your heart and shows it to everybody. It keeps beating in his hand because that awe-inspiring drum performance keeps it alive... so he can return it to you safe and sound when he's done.
Phil was the drummer of the legendary band Genesis before venturing into a VERY full solo career...LOTS of great Genesis songs and Collins solo work to enjoy out there for sure!! This was during a very rough time in his life...health, divorce, music, etc...but this one REALLY hits with his divorce...and I'm sure his ex-wife HATES how popular it's become...it's TRULY an exceptional song!!
And he's supposed to join the reunion tour....sooooo wish I could afford tickets to one of those concerts!
I was going to say the same thing. The song was his release from the pain and turmoil of his life at the time. He said the song became very therapeutic during that time. He mentioned in an interview that he could just sing the song and it would relax him. He said he feared what would have happened if he hadn't gone the route of writing.
I saw the first-ever Top Billing performance by Genesis in 1972 after the original Top Of The Bill " Bell 'N Arc " disbanded.
It was at the 3,000 venue Croydon Greyhound Pub/Venue in South East London England very near where David Bowie, Peter Frampton and Status Quo were born :)
And he’s going through the same shit all over again. At least he was as of a couple of months ago........we were all very concerned. I’m hoping the Genesis reunion rehearsals helped....
@@Isleofskye That's incredible. The best "I can top that!" Concert moment I've heard.
Hahahaha.....” Lookin’ at people like he was in The Matrix or somethin’”. Great reaction !
Phil Collins is a very special talent, we should hold onto it !
This was hands down the best reaction I’ve watched on this song! I’ve watched many! I love to see peoples faces when he drops the drums! Most iconic drum drop of all time!
Phil Collins always looks like my senior World History teacher who was disappointed in me and knew I could do better. He was right.
Don't you hate when they were right!!!🤟🤟
@@marcieharreld286 nah. 28 years is a long time to reflect. I was capable of doing so much better, but past trauma wrecked me for a while😬
@@mztweety1374 I hear ya there!!!!🤟🤟
your reaction channel is the best , love it the most when your sister or daughter is on , great show !
So He would Land a Hand?
Phil Collins is an incredible drummer in every bznd that he has ever been in.
He plays saxophone and keyboards and trumpet
incredible is a stretch
he's a good drummer, for a singer.
@@that44rdv4rk he's on ok actor, for a drummer
@@pamharris2961 And piano /keyboards too
What he's remembering is intense
Love how LFR is so taken by the drum explosion that he leaves the room. Yep, that moment would have been more than worth the price of admission right there.
Seen him live in Manchester any amount would be worth paying to see him live absolutely awesome xx
That drum roll alone is worth going to that concert.
that's not a roll. it's a fill. - drum nazi
That part is the most EPIC, LEGENDARY, ICONIC.
Phil Collins is all of that too.
The drums though. I can listen to that part in my head at any time
Watching you react to this was so much fun! Phil is definitely a legend. I never get sick of seeing this live version.
I felt it coming.......when he got ready to sit down at those drums....I was waiting for your reaction with wringing hands......you didn't disappoint! Love this reaction bud! 🤗
His reactin was priceless! LOOL
This song was SO different from anything else playing in the 80s...sparse and chill. This is an excellent late-night driving song! Similar to how I felt when Prince released When Doves Cry in the 80s.
Driving song definitely watch this on the Miami Vice episode
The joy it gives me to see someone experience those drums I have loved for so many years for the first time..! Thank you.. :)
One of the best night driving songs ever.
One of the best live performances ever.
The Drums are coming get ready!the 80s take me back 67 years old and this song gets my heart beating 💓 love You Phil Colins 👏👏👏👏😘
Phil was a big drummer since the age of 5. He as always the drummer in all the band he was in. When the lead singer left, Phil stepped up ! What a talented man !
Phil Collins is an absolute genius
It's hard to describe it accurately but I saw him perform this and to be there in person was just an amazing experience.
Me too. Best concert of my life
React to his song I Don’t Care Anymore and Against All Odds. He has a ton of great solo work and his time with the group Genesis.
You just named two of my top 30 favorite songs; one gets me all hyped up and the other one makes me cry, lol!
I love I Don't Care Anymore!
Against All Odds, one of my favorites.
@@Silvaria928 I Don't Care Anymore is definitely of my favorites.
@@Silvaria928 In The Air Tonight and I Don't Care Anymore are a set of bookends that chart the end of a marriage to the point where "I just don't care about you anymore". I know Phil must have had a really rough time going through that whole "situation". Just glad he came out alright!
It's amazing how talented, entertaining, & obviously cool he is, without even trying.......Phil Collins is more than just a singer, he is an experience, & when I saw him live, he exceeded my expectations, 10 fold!!! Your reaction made my day LFR Family, thank you 🙂
Phil brings the thunder every single time !!
And everyone who is anyone played their hearts out on air drums when that part came up. Its just what we did.
Absolutely. That’s the way it’s done. Volume up and air drums ready.
Did? We still do!
One of the best songs ever made; when you play the album version at full volume in the car, few things feel better!!!!
Maybe Don Johnson driving down Collins Ave... lol
Much prefer the live version. Album version has to much of an effect on his vocal imo
Nobody can resist. Everybody starts air drumming to this
Truly surprised you never heard Phil Collins everybody was waiting for that drum solo best part
So glad you got to experience Phil Collins! IMHO this is his best live performance. He was IT. Whether solo or with Genesis, it’s a rabbit hole you’ll want to go down.
The best version of the song.
I'm so glad you watched this version of this song! Thank you!
He was the only person that played in Live Aid in 1985 in Wembly, and then flew by concorde (the supersonic airliner that took 3 1/2 hours from London to New York) and played in Live Aid in Philadelphia the same day!!!!
I knew what was coming and your reaction didn’t let me down…I’m 62 and was lucky enough to have witnessed the best music ever made…respect…I love watching newcomers…
The funny thing is Phil has stated that the words we're gibberish they were just to hold the beat and the time of the song as he was writing it and never got around to changing it he says that if you know what the song is about then you're one step ahead of him and if that's not strange enough the drum fill almost never happen the beat was meant to just come back in but Phil being a drummer had to mess around with it on that take he said if it was the take before it would have been something different if it was the take after it would have been something else they just happen to use that one take and create what is arguably the greatest drum fill of History if that's not mine blowing enough Tecate beer isn't even from Mexico it's made by Heineken and brewed in Holland🤕
Great response! Especially the Tecate info 😉 I did not know that!
Lol if you ever get the chance to go to tecate Mexico go!!! It’s a cute town with some great local food but there is definitely a lack of beer being made there😂😂😂😂
Now that you have experienced this epicness I must inform you from this moment on it is required that whenever you hear this song you must stop what you are doing and gear up for your air drum solo! Gotta do it, bruh! And for the record - my air drum solo was on point!
That was definitely a _unique_ reaction. 🤣 And it's not unwarranted! People who aren't familiar with Phil Collins don't know the power he could bring to those drums. He's been banging those skins for longer than I've been breathing- and I'm 45!
Loved your reaction when the master sat down to his playset! That particular song, with that particular drum attack, is one of the signature drum songs of that entire era. And Phil is one of the greatest drummers of his entire multi-decade run. For several years he and his band(s) were the greatest thing going. Then fickle producers began to tone-down his label, tired of seeing him winning music awards (and thus, with more horsepower, able to set his own price), toning him down because it was his mastery that was leading the crowds instead of the studios. Tom Petty had a lot to say about that same, twisted studio mentality that silenced real artists, automated radio air-play, eliminated D.J.s, and ultimately destroyed some of the better artists post-1980s and all because of studio and label GREED. Give the music back to the artists. The producers may do a lot to push the sliders and massage the layering of tracks and loops, but if it weren't for the original artists themselves, not a blinkin' one of 'em would ever make a dime.
First heard this on a tv show Miami Vice. 2 undercover cops were on their way to a drug bust and he thinks his cover has been blown. It was so cool driving his corvette to the meeting and this song was playing.
The car in the first two seasons was a Ferrari Daytona Spyder. Slightly corvette stingray looking, I suppose.
Always watched Miami Vice for the music.
It always blows my mind the energy it takes to play at that intensity and sing
So fun!!! He Touched Me in My HERITAGE!!! 😂😂😂That was great! 😂💞
One of the greatest drummers of all time.
I've seen this so many times but I never get tired of it! Your Light show was super cool too! 🙂 Easy lover by Phil Collins and Phillip Baily is one I'd bet you'd love. ❤🍀
Phill plays NINE instruments. He recordedin a studio a song where he sang, and played every instrument in the song and then mixed it himself.
I remember when this song came out!! Still gives me goosebumps!!! Love Phil!!
I'm 52 and STILL love this as much as when it FIRST came out...Best first reaction ever of the drum 🥁drop...Phil Collins LEGEND 💙
I still get cold chills every single time I hear this !
How have I never seen this?!?!??!??
AMAZING
thank you!!
I was reacting right along with you
You're so right. He always looked so serious and intense! He's a deep thinker and a master musician.
❤ **BEST REACTION** ❤
phil collins is multi-talented
Phil is a drummer by trade - he was the drummer for Genesis and then dummer/signer once Peter Gabriel left the band.
Check out "Another Day In Paradise". It always makes me cry.
That's a great song, but depressing. There were a few years where I simply could not listen to Another Day In Paradise, Everybody Hurts, and the Johnny Cash version of Hurt. Some songs are just THAT GOOD at dredging up emotions.
Gets as real as it can!
I watch a lot of reaction videos to this show because it never gets old seeing their reaction. Some I hate because of the constant interruptions and some I loved seeing their honest feeling, and you sir did not disappoint. Good job!
The other drummer is Chester Thompson an American drummer. Both brilliant
Oh I miss the bar, everytime this hit the jukebox everyone stops at the drum breakdown and drums on the bar so much fun
Yep, one of the most recognized drum breakdowns in the world, and rightly so.
Phil Collins had mentioned that this drum breakdown was I believe the first of 24 different breakdowns he recorded. He said as a drummer he was trying different variations to see which one fit best, and it ended up being that one.
I think you legally have to do that 😉😂😎
INTENSE !!!!! ???? **** MOST EPIC DRUM PART EVER ***** THIS IS " IN THE AIR TONIGHT"
I think we can all agree, this song is about pain and how to get your emotions out! We all identify with this song because it is raw, unadulterated emotion! That’s what makes us human. How we interpret it, is the magical part of this song!
When a man hears this song especially the first time it ignites a deep fire inside
