I have literally watched at least 100 reaction videos to this song just waiting............for someone to FINALLY mention that the emotions on his face strike the soul as well as his voice. You nailed it. You rightly pointed out that we are brought into the song with this video. You are very astute; much respect to you.
If you're referring to the face he makes as to resemble rage, that wasn't to interpret emotion. He makes that face to allow him to add a sense of extra rasp to his voice so he doesn't damage his voice.
I feel the same way. I also feel This song and his voice was for this Time, with this virus. We Cannot stay Silent We must Fight For Our Freedom. Yes it touched My Soul to. Yes I watched a lot of reactions from people and it has the same affect on them. DAVID meant every word , not only with his voice but with his facial expressions.

The double thumps on the kettle drum are so much a part of this version for me. I'm glad they are visually featured right after "teach you" and "reach you".
âNeath the halo of a street lamp, I turn my collar to the cold and dampâ, I mean, come on. Who writes like that anymore. I love that mine. Paul Simon was a wordsmith. He was so so deep.
Goosebumps! He sustains notes with such discipline and intensity. It is so refreshing to hear vocalists respect a note rather than what I see is a unfortunate in too many vocalists these days who flutter through a variety of notes.
My son informed me he is doing this version for his school talent show. Ballsy move but Iâm sure he is gonna nail it. Gonna bring a tear to his Papaâs eyes.. đŁ
Got a star on your hands. Better record that performance so you can add the footage to his Behind The Story documentary.đ Hope he kicks ass with his performance.đ
One of THE best covers of a genius song ever done. The icing on the cake...? Paul Simon himself endorsed Disturbed making this version, and he loves it.
When I was a kid I would listen to all the music and sometimes get tears in my eyes. I'm 67 now and I still do. Friends would make fun of me and I couldn't figure out why. Then I realized one day they were listening, just not hearing. I'm good with that. Great cover from a great song. All tested up.
For me it's not only his face, it is his vocals that convey the urgency of his message. wake up world we need to get back to what makes us human, compassion, and communication. We have lost both.
OMFG!!! I only found out that reaction videos are a thing on YT. First one I saw, bc CNN did a news story on them, was the Twins hearing Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight". Did you notice in the video that Disturbed is bringing the instruments to the people who wrote music but have no voice ⊠ship at the end brings them together. Itâs beautiful imagery.
Oh, I agree! The visual aspect of this music video is a very important part of it, because with it they're adding another layer to the song. And they're also implying that it isn't too late, that there's still hope.
@@narcissistectomy5134 It's easy to do! This guy has an AMAZING voice! But yeah, sometime watch it and really look for the visual story they're telling along with the lyrics. After the musicians get their instruments, an idea is introduced that there's this divide between the musicians and the ones who write music, (shown as a lot of young people) and and that's emphasized even further with the following verse, but watch in the final one, the musicians don't just leave the writers on the other side with no one to play their music, they get on a boat and take themselves to the writers. To me anyway, it's very symbolic about reaching out to those who are wanting to make art but have no voice to share it, and helping to give them the opportunities to do just that. Of not letting the silence win.
The original came when my generation was learning how to speak out against Vietnam, when the equal rights amendment was born, and the civil rights movement against racism began. S&G's was about recognizing the silence and breaking it. This version is about the anger that after all these years the silence still exists.

Over 2 million innocent men, women and children were slaughtered by the viet cong after we pulled out. I'm not sure how that is such a righteous position. I certainly have problem with how we fought the war, but just blindly being against it is by no means a more righteous position.
Congratulations, you have just witnessed one of the best vocalists to ever perform in history, David Draiman has a voice and range that any other vocalist would kill for. Disturbed as a band is also incredibly talented and the reason why they chose to cover songs like Land Of Confusion and Sound of Silence is they believe music is a weapon. They believe people can be reached through music to be used as a weapon to change the world for the better. Nah, just how amazing this cover version is proves how serious Disturbed took making this cover song. There's just so much emotion in the images and in his voice. Its amazing no matter how many times you hear it.
Agreed, even though the pinhead at the network added auto tune to the performance. David was pissed when he found out. He is one guy who never needs enhancements.
That's unsubstantiated as far as I can tell. Lot of tin foil hat wearing redditors putting that out there, but nobody putting up any proof or confirmation.
I saw an interview of Draiman. If I recall correctly...his grandfather is someone of great stature within the larger Hebrew community. I believe in Israel. Apparently his grandfather rejected him when he left the Yeshiva to "do metal". His parents apparently said "meh". A bit more accepting I suppose.
I was gonna mention his training if no one else had. Thank you. His range and quality of his voice is due to his extensive training to become a Cantor. I want to hear more like this from Draiman, but probably won't. My bet is that his training helps him keep from damaging his vocal cords.
Jamal, I'm 62 years old been playing drums since i was 8 years old . i see the love of music in your face. Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching.
This is probably the most perfect musical piece and video produced. The voice, the passion, the lyrics, the message, the visuals and the utterly brilliant musical arrangement ... Always loved the original but this is just WOW. Disturbed own this now. I thank them for this musical and cinematic masterpiece.
This is fabulous. In addition to everything else said about this performance, I want to add that it's so satisfying to hear a man daring to sing like a man, with passion, depth, strength and softness when it is right. This is real.
Notice the arch of musicians crossing the river to the people on shore holding sheet music. They need each other to end the silence. Music is the universal language.
People don't know Dave (lead singer for disturbed) is classically trained opera singer.. he has the perfect voice and inflections in his voice for this
Isn't his voice incredible? The way he switches to that growl and then back to the clearer projection...I get chills EVERY time and that's even after listening to it a buncha times because the little ones want to listen to it on repeat as well! Going to see your reaction to Johnny Cash and his version of "Hurt" now (absolutely amazing cover!) Someone else mentioned Shinedown's cover of "Simple Man", if you haven't listened to it I'm seconding this recommendation. Brent Smith's voice is really something. It was that song that got me hooked on Shinedown more than 15 years ago. .45 is also great. Their videos in general "get you in the song" like you said, too!
What I especially love about how David Draiman (and Disturbed) do this.... Is that if you're actually paying close attention, you can see that it's not just Rage that the warning was ignored.... But incredible sorrow under that rage that it... Well... that it had come to this *because* the (original) warning was ignored/dismissed. You can hear the sorrow at the start, but the best indication as to just how deep that painful sorrow goes (that gives birth to the rage) is to look at how his face and expression softens on the line "Silence like a cancer grows" (watch how soft his face goes and look at his eyes on the word "grows")... It shows that his true emotion is not of rage, but rather of deep, profound sorrow (which I'm actually surprised that no one ever mentions)... Also shows that the rage he voices/displays is the rage bourn of desperation to "break the spell of the 'Neon Gods'" as well as the sorrow of the entire situation (that it had gotten to this point due to the warning being ignored)... An absolutely stunning and overwhelmingly powerful piece. (If that isn't enough to convince you... Then listen to what he says in this clip in which he literally stops the show to help a person that was (unintentionally) dragged into a mosh pit at one of their concerts: czcams.com/video/1OxxJ3g5YQ4/video.html ... An absolutely incredible, kind, and wise human being. The fact that the true emotion at the foundation is sorrow (though no one mentions is) is why, I believe, the song is so overwhelmingly powerful... I mean... think about it, if it was just rage... Do you (you being whoever is reading this) truly believe that it would have the same level of emotional impact?... I don't, not one bit. Also, just discovered your channel (already subbed) and I am loving your content so far Jamel(? ... or do you prefer Jamal?). Excellent quality and already watched a few of your videos. Keep up the awesome work.
This music video won my Mom over to Disturbed. She LOVES S&G! Before I showed her this video, I showed her Down With The Sickness and tried to explain about the band in general, THEN showed her this. She had goosebumps just like I did! It was a privilege for me to be the one to show her this. Jamel, there is a cover of this cover. Can you imagine what a semi-retired Baritone Opera Singer would do with this song? David would be proud of Henk Port's rendition as Henk sang it to Floor Jansen. Have fun!
All I can say is the sound of silence some times feels good when your on your own and you can listen to a voice like this I was a big fan of Simon and gartfunkl in Ireland in the seventies when I was a young girl but this man just but this lovely song to an new l level wow
With what is finally happening in American (Revolution) this version of Sound of Silence by Disturbed is my anthem. I'm a 72 year old White grandmother who's loved this song when Simon recorded it. We stopped trying to change the world. We went silent.
Down With the Sickness vs Sound of Silence is almost 20 years of difference. Since you mentioned the live performance, Paul Simon actually shared the video of it on his social media, which is one hell of an endorsement from the original artist.

Just had to come back to comment on this. In 1975, we performed this in my 8th grade choir. This was just a few shortly after the fall of Saigon, Watergate, Vietnam pull out, etc. It was a powerful song then and its powerful today. All school children should sing this song so they can carry its lessons forward into the future.
This song, and the way David Draiman sings it, seems to perfectly capture the current pain and despair that many Americans are feeling right now as the silence from policy makers is deafening .
I think thatâs why your my favorite reaction channel on YT. You appreciate music in a way I do. You notice the little things that most people look over. Love your videos man keep it up!
Yes! The Genesis version is my husband's favorite because hes a big Phil Collins fan and my favorite is Disturbeds because they are one of my favorite bands.
I have noticed, every reaction I have seen, the reactor always is in silence afterwards, so appropriate!! And I the beginning, they don't catch the actual 'sound of silence' great stuffs. Much love&respect sir!
I think this kind of cover just speaks to the power of the original song, and when a band like this does a cover like this, it also shows the amount of respect that true artists have for other artists. Another example is watching how many video Mark Knopfler did with Chet Atkins, to completely different genres and they could play together so beautifully together.
David really nailed it with this one. His cover really hits hard. I love the original Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel did, and I'm just glad I have another version to listen to. Never gets old.
Goosebumps, indeed. Every. Time. Our reaction to the raw emotion is his face and voice is visceral, bordering on atavistic. One last bit of homework for you. If you haven't already, go listen to the vocals only version of this song. You won't regret it.

Agreed, even though the pinhead at the network added auto tune to the performance. David was pissed when he found out. He is one guy who never needs enhancements.
That's unsubstantiated as far as I can tell. Lot of tin foil hat wearing redditors putting that out there, but nobody putting up any proof or confirmation.
obviously you don't know of many vocal performers or listened to 6 decades of music. Vocals are great if you love the devil, he ruined a great song...

@@INUAGAIN Dude, what is up with you? You post the same negative BS on almost every comment, did some bald guy hurt you at some point in your life?
He gives me goosebumps I love his voice he was trained as a cantor for temple service.
A message sung with so much Power and Grace. He was born to sing this song exactly this way.
As much as I love the gentle harmonies of the original, I can't get enough of this visceral, barely-contained version.
David Draiman's voice is the definition of Rock God!
I have listened to this song hundreds of times and I still get the same reaction every time.
This is probably the most perfect musical piece and video produced. The voice, the passion, the lyrics, the message, the visuals and the utterly brilliant musical arrangement ... Always loved the original but this is just WOW. Disturbed own this now. I thank them for this musical and cinematic masterpiece.
This version is so profound, deeply moving, emotional. The use of the imagery is haunting. It's beautiful
I still get goosebumps every time I hear this. Great reaction
This is fabulous. In addition to everything else said about this performance, I want to add that it's so satisfying to hear a man daring to sing like a man, with passion, depth, strength and softness when it is right. This is real.
Davis Draiman's voice is AWESOME!!! No one better!!
There is just one word for it 'Prophetic' Amazing
No lie, I always get tears in my eyes when I hear this version of this song. I can't help it. So much emotion put into the song.
It brought years to my eyes. Just raw emotion. A beautiful performance.
this is not a song you listen to, this is a song you feel!! it's so fucking amazing
He, Corey Taylor, and Brent Smith never get enough credit for the power of their voices.
đŻ
Truth!
Truth
Shed some light from shinedown. Brents vocals give me chills everytime.
Shaun Morgan as well
It's like he's in your soul and your inner being! This is my favorite version. He's amazing!!
Notice the arch of musicians crossing the river to the people on shore holding sheet music. They need each other to end the silence. Music is the universal language.
People don't know Dave (lead singer for disturbed) is classically trained opera singer.. he has the perfect voice and inflections in his voice for this
Paul Simon said this was the best cover he ever has heard, he actually likes it better than his own version because of the power in it.
is Paul Simon a devil worshipper too? Yes, he is a Freemason, who (thru their secret society) promote the devil, demonrats...
Isn't his voice incredible? The way he switches to that growl and then back to the clearer projection...I get chills EVERY time and that's even after listening to it a buncha times because the little ones want to listen to it on repeat as well!
Going to see your reaction to Johnny Cash and his version of "Hurt" now (absolutely amazing cover!)
Someone else mentioned Shinedown's cover of "Simple Man", if you haven't listened to it I'm seconding this recommendation. Brent Smith's voice is really something. It was that song that got me hooked on Shinedown more than 15 years ago. .45 is also great. Their videos in general "get you in the song" like you said, too!
David's voice went through to the SOUL .
I still get goosebumps and cry every time I hear this version of the song
I could listen to his voice all day. His rasp gets me every time.
When I hear this all I think is about my son we just to listen to this song before he past he loved this song it was one of his favorite songs
Wow. Sorry for your loss.
My condolences
Have fun!
CHILLS TO THE BONE EVERY SINGLE TIME!!
This live is unbelievable and powerful and his voice in this cover is perfection... đ€đ»đ€đ»đđ
Listened to this thousands of times and every time....full body goosebumps!
All I can say is the sound of silence some times feels good when your on your own and you can listen to a voice like this I was a big fan of Simon and gartfunkl in Ireland in the seventies when I was a young girl but this man just but this lovely song to an new l level wow
David has one of the most beautiful powerful voices ever â€ïžđčâ€ïž
I have watched this many many times, and every time, it still destroys me....
A genuine and intelligent reaction. It's exactly what I was looking for. He nailed the song....you nailed the reaction! Thanks for posting.
With what is finally happening in American (Revolution) this version of Sound of Silence by Disturbed is my anthem. I'm a 72 year old White grandmother who's loved this song when Simon recorded it. We stopped trying to change the world. We went silent.
OMG.
His words and emotion were so Gripping..Felt every note in my soul..get goosebumps everytime I hear this.
Down With the Sickness vs Sound of Silence is almost 20 years of difference.
Since you mentioned the live performance, Paul Simon actually shared the video of it on his social media, which is one hell of an endorsement from the original artist.
This, Hurt by Johnny Cash and Simple Man by Shinedown are in my opinion 3 of the best covers ever!!!
My top 3, no particular order.
Easy - Faith No More(Originally Commodores)

Ring of Fire - Social Distortion(Originally Johnny Cash)

Simple Man - Deftones(Originally Lynyrd Skynyrd)

Nailed it Sal.
That's #s 4, 3, and 2 for me. Number 1, im my opinion is whitney houston's cover of i will always love you. Original by Dolly Parton.
@@kilgor1980 yes sir, deftones version kills Shinedowns
Look up Rusty Cage by Johnny Cash it up there too.
I'm addicted to listening to this!!! If this doesn't make you feel something, you're dead!
Chills every time I hear this. Saw them in concert last summer and hearing this live was nothing short of incredible.
David Draiman' s voice = Smooth as BUTTUH
The range in his voice is unbelievable!
Buckethead - Soothsayer live
it's mindblowing
I second this!!!!
100 likes for this.
For sure, that is really good.
Jordan, Live from the Culture Room. I love watching him work that kill switch
Jamel, the reason you're my #1 reaction video channel are 3 things: 1. Good audio, 2. Good acoustics, 3. GREAT heart-felt analysis!! Love it!!!
Iâve never heard this band before, but as a child of the 70s, Iâm a big fan on Simon and Garfunkel. This brought me to tears.
Please listen to "Land of Confusion" by Genesis, and then Disturbed covering it. Both are great, and I think you'll laugh at the Genesis video.
I just commented the same thing! lol
This is a terrific idea.
YES!! I LOVE that song!
Yes! The Genesis version is my husband's favorite because hes a big Phil Collins fan and my favorite is Disturbeds because they are one of my favorite bands.
Listen to Land of Confusion by Katznmenjammer.
This band does a cover on every album. And not one of them disappoint.
He did a great job on this, very powerful. I would luvd 2 hav heard Cornell do a version of this!
Goosebumps, indeed. Every. Time. Our reaction to the raw emotion is his face and voice is visceral, bordering on atavistic. One last bit of homework for you. If you haven't already, go listen to the vocals only version of this song. You won't regret it.
One of the best songs ever written
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love it, watching them do this live is untouchable.
I love love that song and that mans voice. I get goose bumps all over too. I could listen to it all day. No one can sing it like him.
This song moves your heart its so beautiful I want it playing as I take my dying breath :-)
