Range Rovers don’t come around very often. Over the car's 50-year lifespan, this new model is just the fifth iteration of the iconic 4x4. The original Range Rover was conceived as the ultimate lifestyle SUV; luxury came later. The latest version is tasked with reinventing the genre yet again, with luxury, technology and design to the fore. There'll be two plug-in hybrid versions on offer - both using a 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine with up to 503bhp available. Mild-hybrid tech will also be an option with a pair of 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesels and a petrol version as well. Top of the range will be a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 petrol pumping out 523bhp. From 2024 the range will include a fully-electric model. Steve Fowler delves into the design, interior, technology and driving experience of the all-new Range Rover in this first drive review.

The presence / stance of the new RR is so clean and the proportions are perfect inside and out
Overall the design is absolutely stunning. There’s nothing on the road that looks as good. Interesting mention about the mirrors and wind noise. I’m a Mercedes technician and the new GLS/GLE has an issue with whistling coming from the outside mirrors and an updated part was released for it. Sorta helped lol.
The most beautifully refined design on the road anywhere. Modernity, style, minimalism, elegance, and history all in one design. AMAZING!
Great car. That one for the family, 911 GTS for me. Then I woke up...
Give this man a pay rise so he can afford a Range Rover.
Totally agree! Thanks Hugh
What was the paint colour on this please!
The space in the rear seat somehow looks cramped with the chap in the back
The rear seat looks so cramped. The poor guy was struggling to sit.
First time watching one of your reviews. It would be really nice if you were to place a camera somewhere near above your left ear. Because I also like to see how driving feels from an angle that points at the front of the car.
why dont they address reliability? that's what's keeping SO many people from buying one...we dont need more stitching and wood we need something that can last more than 5,000miles
Thank you very much please do the SV Serenity swb Gold and White
Gorgeous vehicle, great review!
seriously it’s the first Range Rover that is tickling me on buying it. very sexy
Excellent video 📹
Excellent car, prestige without vulgar
A diesel-powered SUV that big and expensive is the epitome of vulgar excess...
It’s a bit weird with the antennas on top
I hope reliability is better than past models, as they have had rep for this.
Why no pictures of the inside dash etc?
When will the plug 🔌 in hybrid be available in California? Want to order one asap!
Is that engine really quiet and refined? Or the car is very well insulated?
So clean video
Anyone know the colour of this test car? - looks stunning
Absolutely stunning. Can’t wait to see what the new sport will look like. And the beginning of this vid was funny lol
Happy that some brands are going back to cloth fabric chairs, leather or fake leather is played out.
Good to see Steve Fowler’s humour get into video! Nice one!
Wow was this the filming of the original launch of the car
No rear legroom at all?
Great looking machine, let’s hope it’s more reliable then previous generations……I’d be 100% buyer
And...it will never be more reliable. Onward.
Only time will tell
@@allwheeldrive the electric one will be because it’s a simpler design
@@jackjoyce1744 it’s electrics an electronics that is the biggest reliability problem for JLR LOL
Heard from a few people now that JLR are reducing production scales to tie in with other luxury brands whereby their numbers are lower but reliability and exclusivity to try and improve peoples viewpoints on the brand
Saw one in uk few months back looks lush
Same as me, you in the Birmingham area as well? I’ve seen loads within the past 6 months as I live in Birmingham near Solihull where they’re made and they’ve all had “prototype vehicle” wrote all over them
No Maidstone kent in south east it was a gold unliveried left hand drive but British plate
Ride quality wise, how's this compare to the s class do you think. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Awesome, thank you
Excellent question, I want to know also. I've got a Range Rover Autobiography but the ride is a little rough, the car I drove before, a 2014 Bentley Flying Spur W12, had much older technology but had a lot more power, materials quality, and was also a lot smoother and more comfortable and quieter...so if this all new one has fixed all issues with tech and ride quality (and hopefully reliability) then its obviously a total win. Also the Bentley was a lot more reliable with much fewer problems so hopefully they can also improve those areas too..
@@johnmuzic3475 I wouldn't say the ride is super smooth - more communicative and with good body control. You feel what the state of the road surface is, but it's never uncomfortable. Pretty amazing on the 23-inch wheels of the car I drove.
@@steviefowler very good sincerely glad to hear it (and truly appreciate you taking the time to respond) so maybe when they start arriving next year at my local dealership I will be able to test drive one and go sit in one and look around it for a while to actually see for myself face-to-face in-person..
@@johnmuzic3475 How do you expect an SUV to ever surpass cars in comfort? They literally are cars with added compromises.
They have higher unsprung weight. They have inferior suspension geometry and many compromises to allow for the longer suspension travel. That also gives structural compromises meaning either extra strengthening needed = more mass, or they don't add mass which will then result in more flex where you don't want it, and that in turn causes poorer precision and resonances.
They have higher centre of gravity, which then requires lots of compromises to the suspension geometry, components and setup. They have to sacrifice optimum suspension to combat the car's body movements.
And so and and so forth. SUVs are inferior to cars in order to tackle off-road conditions. If you don't need to tackle off-road conditions you can get a car far better optimised for on-road use.
I would expect a C-Class Mercedes with the top spec air suspension and other goodies to be far more comfortable than any Land Rover product. Easily. I doubt it'll be much louder either, if you select the acoustic comfort package. And other more expensive cars from a variety of manufacturers are no doubt similarly superior to the Land Rover products as they don't have to compromise.
But whatever you do I wouldn't look to VW Group products like Bentley for any reason...
"Land Rover how are you even loosing money?!" - Jeremy Clarkson
Nick looks very 'cramped' in the rear seats- Whats the rear leg room ?
I was just thinking the same 🥱 big car still hatchback size insides
Matt is going to rip this apart when he gets his hands on this 😂
48 inch, S class 43 inch. Google
Hello is sunset paint nice oldriogold or New sunset Gold which one better?
Do I have to have a beer belly like these guys in order to drive one?
Talk about not screwing it up while making it more desirable 👍
Can't wait for the next gen RR Sport with this new design language.
Does it have DMS provided by Seeing Machines? No, so to claim it has the latest technology is a bit of a stretch, lovely car though but will be out of date very soon with regards to driver and passenger safety.
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. The World’s Best Luxury SUV Is now even better
They did not mention its reliability
I'd get a DBX, Levante, GLE/S, X5/7, etc. before a Range Rover. They don't have such great luxury and toys, not the best seating position, poor interior space-to-exterior size ratio, and above they've had horrendous reliability throughout their whole history so there's little reason to expect that to have changed.
But above all the claim was that it would be the world's best luxury car...well, no SUV can be anywhere near the best luxury car due to all the compromises they bring to the table, making them worse cars.
I'd never buy an SUV to begin with...cars are far superior when using them on-road.
@@pistonburner6448 The Range Rover or any of the cars you mentioned are a statement, that is all. There is no perfect vehicle.
It’s all about the badge.
@@gregw4303 But there are more comfortable or as comfortable cars...for a lot less money.
@@pistonburner6448 I agree. But I don’t think people with enough cash to buy a new car think about comfort as much as a priority as the look.
RR rear leg room 48 inch, Merc S class 43 inch.
On the way to the pie shop?
A subservient review
No mention of the reliability issue.
Remember: Pros, Cons and skeletons
The guy sitting behind you apparently doesn't have enough legroom, but you didn't mention it!
Why did he not ask the JLR guy about reliability? Motoring journalism fail.
All electric version please
It's a looker for sure
Only seen 1 on the road upto now
Is there a waiting list?.
yeah!
Not sure if this is a review or an ad..
same!
Have they fixed the appalling reliability of these vehicles. Range rover is beauty for sure but does that matter if it's in garage every other month :(
The cube design is back! Very british!
Lvly car but they will break your heart it be great if they brought out the old 1 and made it reliable
I'll take it over a Cully all day
Yes it is the best car in the world..... For high maintenance bills.
Don’t forget depreciation
Where did the bloke in the back disappear to
That leg room didn't look comfortable
Gorgeous 😍😍
How can the least reliable car be the best, I dont get the credit given for range rovers ..
Beautiful car, I own a 2018 RR sport cannot wait for the new Sport. Nothing on the road looks as good as that!
Don’t like those vegan friendly seats tho I must say
Yeah, I don't know why they insist on making it look worse than the other options, specifically with the fabric, which doesn't need to be there since vegan leather is clearly accessible to them.
I know you are English and find it your duty to support the UK car industry but there is no need to lie anymore. Land Rover is owned by TATA and Indian firm. Rolls Royce is owned by BMW. Bentley is owned by Volkswagen. The vehicle is a looker but its reliability makes it undesirable; I doubt this model will be more reliable with the added technology. I wish those that buy it great patience because they will need as they fight all the problems with the dealers who many times try and blame the owner for many of the defaults trying to squeeze an extra buck or two out of the owners. This time around I will truly ‘enjoy’ this vehicle from a distance admiring owners and their patience. I ran out of patience and time for this automotive firm a long time ago.
Will they get the build quality right? I doubt it but time for them to concentrate on it as world wide Land Rover has a very bad reputation on quality.
The Best
if reliable
Looks great I just hope they have sorted all the reliability issues this time...🤔🤔
Our 2 Landcruisers last service bill over $10,000 each. Injectors.
Why would they bother to spend the extra money to make them reliable when everyone is lining up to buy one. Mercedes use the same business model. Develop a good reputation for quality & reliability in the past, build them with inbuilt faults ready to raise their ugly heads after (or even sometimes before) the warranty expires.
@@elroyfudbucker6806 but Land Rover certainly don’t have a good past reputation for reliability! It’s absolutely shocking so I still fine it quite baffling myself.
@@reececollison5101 The clients don't really care. They only keep it for 5 or 6 years anyway. Most of the problems are for the second owner. As long as they can keep selling them JLR doesn't really have much incentive to make it more sustainable.
@@elroyfudbucker6806 Who mentioned Mercedes here
Good Beautiful
Not watched this yet but I'll bet everything I own that JLR shocking reliability doesn't get a mention.
so true!! never is, all the marketing spiel fired at us.
You’ve used the word technology about hundred times and not have explained what they are in the car
Doesn't seem that big in the rear.
If they are serious about India...they should bring it here at a reasonable price....and eV-hybrid one...all one needs is Money...looking at the Global recession they should quickly adjust the enormoous Price tag...
Just read least reliability from what car and it’s not a great read for this manufacturer..
How can one of the least reliable cars be the best car in the world?
I do really like the new RR, the 'hidden until lit' marketing jargon is rubbish as big strips of dark plastic just look like tinted lights more than anything else.
I wish Jaguar land rover would take back the Rover brand and make it a entry level luxury, brand and try and get Triumph and make that entry performance eg baby land/range rovers and family jaguars, and baby Jag coupes, and high power no jaguar refinement maybe even a Miata competitor ... And then find another defunct manufacturer that had a good brand reputation 😂maybe even reliant and make a new robin(other birds), 4 wheel, 3 wheel etc, that's basic no luxury parts bins of all the other 4 and smaller economical engines and to let engineers go wacky
The Rover brand is owned by Ford. They refused to sell Rover brand to the owners of Jaguar and Range Rover because they did not want it to compete in the same market segment.
@@kb8570 the Rover brand was bought by a Chinese company in a shady deal, honestly if I was the UK government I'd give jaguar land rover the okay to start using it... If China can play a unfair economic game so can we
@@arnoldtabor3767 MG brand was purchased by the Chinese. Rover is still with Ford. Also, you can blame the Chinese. Look at history, the Europeans have a bad habit of enslaving countries. Look at what they did to Africa and India.
@@kb8570 no, it was given by Ford to Land Rover when they were owned by Ford and continues to do so after merging with Jaguar and purchased by the new owner, Tata
Would love to see Rover's and Triumph's comeback, p5, p6 and 75 were great cars and Britain really needs to have its own affordable car once again
Reliability????? What's that???
Beautiful car
Jealous! No diesel in USA
See you at the garage
Rear passenger clearly has no legroom at all
It looks lovely, it’s huge and it’s expensive. Ticks all the boxes for JLR owners.
The thing that stuck out to me during the whole video was the perceived lack of rear legroom in the rear.
The Americans seem to like to knock the Range Rover for lack of reliability , let’s hope this one is reliable , they are the biggest market for these cars .
Let's see how reliable it is first shall we?
BTW isn't it a Land Rover Range Rover? Or how does it go nowadays, isn't the company, the brand still officially Land Rover which makes and sells the vehicle with the _model name_ Range Rover? And Land Rover is then owned by Jaguar Land Rover. AFAIK there is no brand name Range Rover??
New Range Rover..Run!!
Diesel is a dirty word and has had its day
Still poor packaging.. the guys knees are up against back of drivers seat!
And look at the angle of the knees!! How low on the floor is that seat!?
How can this be an honest taredown with those 2 sitting in the back ?????
Bet the ev version will be reliable without all those moving parts
it will either go that way or will do the way that JLR are known for their electronics :(
Please, car journalists, could you get car manufacturers to answer the question everybody is totally baffled with: Why on earth do they put touch controls onto cars (like on the steering wheel), even very expensive ones where surely they don't have to be penny-pinching that badly?? I mean it is absolutely certain that they are massively inferior to proper buttons, switches and selector wheels. There is no doubt that touch controls are BY FAR inferior and for most are actually frustratingly bad. So why on earth do they use them? Is it just that over time some totally incompetent, out-of-touch, non-engineer managers who are mostly only qualified in office politics, used their elbows and talent of bullshitting to rise up the ranks?
Not much legroom in the back, for Nick
I give it 6 months max before it starts popping lights and breaks down... and I'm being conservative..
Is the new Range Rover the most reliable car in the world? ...er, hello? Hello? I prefer it when the Range Rover marketing team do the marketing. At least their fantasy-world promotions look pretty and I don't have to listen to journalists fawning over the product and it's producers. It is beautiful and Technically amazing - but for how long?
I've spoken at length to Land Rover about reliability. One of the biggest issues is where and how a car is built - the Defender, built in a brand new factory in Slovakia, is showing signs of reversing LR's reliability trend. The RR's all-new electrical architecture gives me confidence, but not as much as the investment that's been put into the Solihull factory to build the car - it's pretty much a new factory inside and old factory and should improve things. It better had - it couldn't get much worse! As for 'fawning', I can only tell it how it is.
@@steviefowler Thanks for the reply (did not expect that) and for taking the criticism (and I stand by it) so well - appreciated. I'm glad to hear you spoke to RR. It would have been useful if you spoke, at all, about their reliability record and how they claim to have addressed it in the video. That would do something to adequately inform potential buyers of the what they might be getting into - otherwise this is just another advert. All I learnt from this video is that the car is expensive and that you like it.
NO, not even close. Question answered, you welcome!
3 year lead time for delivery !
At the bottom of the reliability chart ! Buy a Dacia Duster instead , in fact buy 10 of them !
I hope it's going to be more reliable than the outgoing one but I doubt it.
They have added more tech, what do you think?
Land Rovers/Range Rovers have always been unreliable but the modern models have been built a lot better and are a lot more reliable but as someone said in a comment before, more tech added and more things to go wrong. Reliability has improved but if something does go wrong then it’s an absolute fortune to fix if the warranty has expired.
Have you ever had one?? I’ve had 4 and no issues …latest is a 2019 SVR from brand new and have the first edition ordered and due next month
@@cm4072 fair play anyway for having an SVR. They sound amazing and they move extremely well considering the weight. I rented one not long ago and it was a great experience
@@cm4072 I hope you've also got a lottery ticket then.
Beautiful vehicle but guaranteed to fall apart in no time at all.
Only if it could stay on the road
Its also a lemon.
its vogue
The slab constituting the rear reminds me of a hearse. I think the side view of the rear half is ugly, a brick if not a hearse. Diesel in 2022!?!? What's the CO2 emission. Who is going to take this expensive monster cross-country? How about inner city parking - two spaces required? A good car to pop down to the supermarket? The cramped rear leg room was presumably because 7 seats were down. If I remember correctly, Range Rovers are amongst the most unreliable cars on UK roads according to Which?, the Consumer Association.
The best car in the world...FOR A MECHANIC TO WORK ON!!!
Leather is sustainable, P-U comes from petroleum!
