Range Rover V8 vs Bentley Bentayga V8S

  • Battle of the ultimate luxury SUVs!
    If you're after the ultimate luxury SUV, there's a good chance that these two cars - the Bentley Bentayga and the all-new Range Rover - are at the very top of your shopping list. And why wouldn't they be? Both provide the performance of a sports car, the refinement, quality and space of a chauffeur car, and the practicality of a family SUV. Yes, these really are cars that can do everything.
    The newer car of the pair is the Range Rover P530. It sits on an all-new platform, and this high-spec version comes fitted with a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 banging out 523bhp, making it capable of sprinting from 0-62mph in just 4.6 seconds, despite being the size of a small planet.
    It faces the Bentley Bentayga V8S, a racier version of the regular V8 version. It has the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 as the regular Bentayga V8, which is down on size compared to the Range Rover's engine, but it's actually more powerful, punting out a mammoth 542bhp for a 0-62mph sprint time of 4.5 seconds. However, the big difference between the V8S and the regular Bentayga V8 is that it comes with a revised air suspension for sharper handling.
    So which of these two hugely powerful - not to mention, hugely expensive - luxury SUVs is best? In this CarGurus UK video twin test, Vicky Parrott answers that very question by taking a detailed look at our contenders' performance, ride, handling, refinement, quality, technology and practicality.

    24' RR Autobiography for me! An amazing ride on 23s, looks great, and is a true SUV. The ride position, the room and space makes it stand out from the crossover SUV look and size. The rear executive seats with hot stone massage and conforming headrests are amazing. Its also a bargain compared to the Bentley and the Rolls Royce.

    Excellent review of two impressive vehicles. I really enjoyed your intelligent, well presented examination of these cars. You have a great voice and diction, you know your stuff, but you do it quietly and confidently. No gimmicks. Both cars are completely ludicrous in size, weight and price. Especially with the ISA rules coming in 500+ bhp is a very slightly OTT. If you are choosing, the RR has far more presence. Parking bays???? That would be a good test...

    I was trying to choose between these two for a while. I had a pre order for a L460 AB and sold it with a 40k profit. But then went back with the RR anyway. The Bentley seats and suspension are just not tuned right for something that’s going off road. Which in my case it has to. If you’re just pounding tarmac the Bentley is nice. A lot do mention the fact that Land Rover has a history of unreliability, but they don’t stay on the subject for long, journalists want to be able to receive cars again, but they have actually improved on reliability especially with the new ingenium inline 6 engines, which have been pretty good on the new Defender and new Range Rover and new Range Rover Sport so far, the inline 3 and 4 irritations found in other models are okay as well, but they need very strict servicing, the 4.4 V8 in the new Range Rover models is okay in terms of reliability but it’s not the one to go for if you want reliability, however there’s still issues with software and electronics, I know of one press car where the door handles stopped working and it had a few other electrical related issues, and I’ve heard of other new Range Rovers with similar issues, so mechanically they seem a lot better, everything else seems slightly better or the same.

    What about the 1000 horsepower Model X? Gas cars seem so underpowered

    • @Offensivebeast
      @Offensivebeast Před rokem +2

      Horsepower isn’t everything, and the Model X doesn’t compare to these 2 by any metric other than tech and acceleration, luxury and interior goes to these 2 all day, driving experience as well, off road ability without a doubt, towing as well, design overall yep, practicality lmao, longevity is debatable but if you maintain these 2 they’re far less likely to total themselves out like the model X will after a decade, and since they came out in 2016 and you can already find variants of the model x in the 40s and a new battery is around 22, the story writes itself and we’ve already seen this situation too many a time with the Model S, and the Model X has a drag coefficient that’s only 0.05 better than the Range Rovers even though the Model X is horrendously ugly and poorly proportioned to lessen drag, I’d rather a good looking SUV over an almost irrelevant amount of drag, not to mention the disadvantages of having an EV in todays world over the irrelevant benefit for people who buy such vehicles like the Bentley and Range Rover, also EV’s with similar power to weight ratios often feel the same and have no defining character or feel, and even then after a few pulls in any performance focused EV it gets a bit boring and predictable, the only times it’s fun is when you see a Ferrari 458 in your rear view, and that situation barely occurs for any justification. These 2 yachts with wheels make a model x look an Americans take on a Nissan Juke with some batteries underneath it.

    Seems to me that if bmw can stick a 4.4L in the Rat they could just as easily put one of their bigger engines in it for that extra 40grand that bentley charge for possibly the ugliest suv around!

    Looks like a big push for the Rang Rover, with the fault that will come in the first 18 month. The Rover looks plain with no appeal to it. Bentayga is the one to get if you have the cash.
