I wonder how many NASCAR fans who hated him at the time are now watching this lamenting that he's retired.

With as big of a Jeff Gordon fan as I am, I'm surprised that I didn't see this one back in the day. Thanks for uploading!

He's the GOAT. Him and Big E made the sport what it was in the late 90s and early 2000s

Crazy how despite yet another 10 win season they still nearly lost this one as well, good thing they held on : )

It’s so funny to look at the complete joke the cup race is now compared to this era when it was at its best. Segmented races and the chase no thank you.

Too bad Ray didn't stay with Jeff throughout his Cup career. I'd bet he would have won 8 or more championships. Do away with the changes that came with Nextel, Sprint, the change in the point structure, the race for the chase, etc., Jeff still wins more without Ray. But, what if?!?

Today, anyone can concentrate on just 10 tracks to be a "Champion". Jeff Gordon is one of the best of all time and possibly the best of his time, with no disrespect to Dale. There's been several generations of race fans. Which of the 3 is the best will be argued forever, but one thing is known. The 4th generation fan is watching crap. A spirt once so great destroyed by the owners wanting to ditch their unique reputation to try and be like football with this "Chase". As generation 4 realizes what I say is true, the world will be notified. NASCAR is closing all of their doors. Thanks NASCAR for the awesome fun in the 1990s and thanks for getting too greedy and screwing the sport. Jeff Gordon...the last truly proven legend. #24ever #Jeff Gordon #RickHendrick #Hendrick Motorsports #Chevrolet Thank you Jeff

The worst luck I've ever seen(before the Chase) for a driver that won the championship

Jeff Gordon Edits all the blown tires and wrecks. If not for that he would've won the title by 3 or 400 points.

chris r At least he made up for it by winning the title with that big a margin in '98. In '95 and '97 the Rainbow Warriors nearly let it get away from them in the last 1/3 of those seasons.

Actually 1998 the reason they won by such a huge margin was if you remember....they rescheduled the Daytona July race to October due to wild fires around the July 4th Weekend. Ran back to back Talladega and Daytona. Jeff Gordon finished 2nd at Talladega and he won Daytona. Mark martin finished 16th at Talladega and 22nd at Daytona. That is why Jeff opened it up so much. However, he already had it in the bag.
