  • The Welsh 3000s Challenge consists of the 15 highest peaks in Wales. All of which are in Snowdonia and all over 3000ft. The challenge starts at the summit of Yr Wydffa/Snowdon and finishes in the North on Foel Fras. The challenge is 24 miles and nearly 4000 metres of ascent and is usually attempted in 24 hours. I managed to complete the challenge with 8.5 hours to spare. I pushed my body way beyond what I've ever thought capable and have some memories that will stay with me forever.

    Well done. One to consider if doing it again is to bivvy on Snowdon. Leave a car by the Cromlech boulders in the Pass and dump gear there. Go lightweight over the Glyderau and Carneddau.
    Pretty good pronunciation by the way. ‘Y’ in Welsh is pronounced ‘uh’ not ‘ee’. But tonnes better than the massacre of the names of some YT content!

    Great effort, well-done - I did "just" the Glyderau two days ago and I'm still struggling to walk down stairs!

      Cheers mate, up until a couple of years ago I'd ache after climbing just Crib Goch 🤣. The Glyderau is probably the toughest of the 3 ranges. So many Boulder fields. Thanks for viewing 👍

    Well done, you looked fresh throughout. I was debating whether to do the Lakes3000's or Welsh3000's, and chose the former. I camped at Seathwaite, dropped a car at Keswick the night before and cycled back to the campsite. When I attempt the Welsh3000's I'll camp at Nant Peris, leave the car at Llanfairfechan and cycle back the night before. Really enjoying your videos BTW.

      Thank you Kevin, means a lot 👍.
      I'm attempting the Lakes 3000's next summer. This time I'll have a friend with me so I think the idea is to drop one car at Seathwaite and leave one at keswick. I'm expecting the distance on the Lakes 3000s to be the main challenge. The Welsh 3000s is brutal mentally as first you want to go fast on Crib Goch and, for obvious reasons, can't 🤣. Pretty straight forward until Glyder Fach, which messes with a tired mined. That big drop to Ogwen Valley and then back up again is torture. The lads I met along the way massively helped with the lift back as it saved me around 6 miles and a long lonely walk back in the dark to my car. Good luck with your Welsh 3000s, if you need any info I'm happy to help.

    Well done. I totally agree it is most definitely as much a mental as a physical challenge. Deciding to go on up after descending into the Ogwen valley and making your legs go up onto Pen yr Ole Wen is quite something. Would you do it again? Would you modify the route to shave off some time? I found the quickest way having gone from Snowdon round onto Crib Goch was to back track from the summit to the col between Crib Goch and Crib y Ddysgl and go down the gully. Steep at first but it cuts out a lot of the boggy ground and crags and gets you onto the path down to Nant Perris a lot faster. Also you can leave your rucksack at the col to go on up to Crib Goch. Anyway that is one short cut that I found saved time and effort. Well done for the videoing. Hard work holding out the camera!

    • @MountainAdventuresuk1
      @MountainAdventuresuk1  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you 😁. The Gully idea's not a bad one for a future attemp. I'd definitely do it again and would like to try North to South. I believe I'm more than capable of a quicker time. I think I was so eager to start that I used too much energy getting to the summit of snowdon when a slower ascent might have helped. Definitely no early running next time 🤣 In terms of modifying the route to maybe start on Crib Goch and gain the valley via Gyrn Las could he quicker. I'd have to recce that route first though. My biggest mental challenge was being on Glyder Fawr and knowing my car was a couple of miles away 🤣 Thanks for watching, I've got a full Rhinogs traverse in the works but I'll definitely be attempting the 3000s again. 👍

      Yeah it is tricky striking a balance of effort. I have tried a north south route camping out by the first one but the last three were really tough, well the climb up from Nant Perris. Look forward to viewing your Rhinogs traverse.

      The route up has one short easy scramble to overcome but not too difficult. Other than that it's a good path and a realy pleasent walk. If you check out my video, The Carneddau South, that will show most of the route up. Need any more info, I'm happy to help. Thanks again 👍

    How were you planning to get back to your car if not those guys gaave you a lift? Planning on doing this solo and parking car somewhere near nant peris. So no idea how to get back to the car when I'm done (if I'm done😀)

    • @MountainAdventuresuk1
      @MountainAdventuresuk1  Před rokem +1

      I parked on the road from Capel Curig about 2 miles from Pen Y Pass. After summiting Foel Fras the plan was to go back to Carnedd Lewellyn and then drop down to A5 and walk back along the road. A good few miles but flat and on a good surface. I know some people book taxis but this was too much thinking for me 😂.

    • @MountainAdventuresuk1
      @MountainAdventuresuk1  Před rokem +1

      Just a though, if you did park at Nant Peris you could follow the ridge down from Carnedd Gwenllien down to Bethesda and then either get a taxi or follow the slate trail back to Llanberis. Again a good few miles but, at that point, getting down from the peaks as soon asap is wise.
