*Definitely* call a pro if you are unsure in any way on this issue. A guy where I used to work lost an eye unbolting the cables under tension on a damaged garage door.
This was a person, while unfamiliar with garage doors, who did work with his hands for a living. He even had safety glasses on and the cable ripped the glasses right off his face.

@@w9s992 In his case, he is married, his wife has a driver's license, you can probably guess the rest.
To make it worse, it was at night, he wants to get the door closed, and had to work the next day, so you know he was rushing and not focusing on the job.

Usual suspect is the door isn't balanced right A because it hasn't been serviced orB its the wrong spring fairy common and another major mistake that causes cables to jump is mounting the top tracks either down or perfectly flat they need to be mounted one hole up on the punched angle from where its flat so it keeps tension on the cable when fully open

Hello. It might be that your garage door is sticking to the vinyl molding. Or the door balance is heavy. Does the garage door feel heavy if you open it by hand?

In my case I backed in to it with my Escalade 😂
