TM Krishna: In The Classroom - Part 1

- As part of the FEA-curated KARNATIC MODERN II festival with TM Krishna, we had scheduled a session where an audience could have the rare opportunity to sit in on a classroom in progress and get a sneak peek into Krishna taking his senior students Vignesh Ishwar and Rithvik Raja through their paces.
In this segment, the first of a four-part special series, Krishna enlightens his students (and us) on the subtle nuances and intricacies of learning compositions.
This video is a demonstration of the indispensable role a teacher plays in a student's life. No matter how many times we listen to a composition and try to self-learn, it is impossible to achieve the level of perfection that a teacher can bring out of us. A student doesn't just learn the technique of an art form from a teacher, he learns to believe in something other than his ego - his guru. And this submission to a guru is the weight that can balance one's pride and arrogance (vidya garvam) on the character-scale. Shri gurubhyo namaha!
The students are very lucky to have tmk as their guru.
TMKrishna i hear daily this am grt fan of him
No words God bless
Real treat... beauty of modern technology to help learn.
Thanks Shri.T M Krishna and the two good students
Woah! The students themselves are renowned musicians.
This class is a master piece. It would be very nice if someone could upload more classes of T.M.Krishna sir, which contain teaching krithis.
Thyagaraja's lyrical speciality of 'Sankshipta Ramayana'- Ramayana in capsule form; raga sanchari permeating the lyrics in melodic brilliance! Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer's masterly delineation is unfortunately lost but patanthara purity handed down by Sandhyavandanam Srinivasa Rao, MVI's disciple has become the 'golden' standard. SriPada Pinkapani Garu including the notated version of this masterpiece in his magnum opus book is a great attempt at sampradaya.
We tend to sing with him
Super teaching
Am blessed
Great experience, to watch not only the teacher, but also the differences between the two students.
Man, the bhairavi neraval phrases(bhaktajana kalpa...) by TMK were brilliant! The students have so much to learn.
TM Krishna was coached this way by his Guru Late. Shri Seetharama Sharma.
TM Krishna is so talented. He has been one of my favourite musicians from my generation. As long as he focuses on delivering and teaching quality music, he's outstanding. It's only when he talks politics and social issues does he have his foot in mouth moments.
Amazing guru ! Blessed sishyas
Long live TM Krishna!
This is a treasure.. Thank you so much for this! God bless!
Absolutely grand wonderful treat!!
Namaste fantastic great teacher
Very.lucky to allmMusic lovers
Lovely to watch great music knowledge transferred from guru to shisyas.
What an in-depth knowledge, ஆழ்மை, what a voice, what greatness .... appreciate your sangeetha ஞானம், prowess!
But outwardly why are you anti-Hindu and anti-Brahmin and anti-Carnatic-legacy; those which have given you so much??? Nobody were against anybody. They were only focused and continuously specializing in the sangeetham, just like you. But why are you against them?
Beautiful concept. Great execution. Would help the non Tamil speakers greatly if the tiny bits of conversations are subtitled in English.
Just like Tamils are told to learm working knowledge of Telugu, Kannaada, a true seeker should learner should learn other languages and i pray you would reach the heights of music. This requires acquiring vast padanthara fron giants and develop one's own bani. Karmataka sangeetha is vast. I wish I had learnt in my young age.
Students, learn as much as you can from this great musician..

Great initiative. Show the teacher too when the student sings. Need not focus the student in full frame , as we need to see the teacher's gestures too when the student sings.
