House's new patient is Ezra Powell (Joel Grey), a renowned medical research pioneer who collapses in his lab. House puts Ezra through diagnostic rigors, but the team is unable to come up with a conclusive diagnosis and Ezra's health continues to deteriorate. Ezra ultimately demands the team help him end his life, but each member has divergent opinions on the morality of helping Ezra die, especially since the possibility of a cure is still in question. Meanwhile, Ali (Leighton Meester), the teenage daughter of a clinic patient, has developed a disturbing crush on House.

I love Chase's face when he sees House giving Ezra Powell a laryngiscope. This violation of patient's rights is too egregious even for House's team.
he's always been morally grey opportunist, just like house, so no surprises there
Another moment where Chase showed that he's House 2.0
Well not really, they both had pretty much the opposite plan for opposite reasons xD.

There were portrayals that Foreman was slowly turning into House (same shoes, stubborness, arogance, penchant for powerplay) but it was Chase's all along who was the real protegé. Being the Hospital boss suit Foreman more.
Foreman _was_ already House way before Chase began to become House. Foreman is House and Cuddy combined.

and that is why the torch was passed on to Chase
- Are you a men of your word of not?
- In a matter of fact, no, I'm not.
When he asked to die my heart broke. I saw my grandmother die slowly of COPD. Near the end it was almost exactly as house described it (Not the fluid, but the struggle for every breath and not being able to ever catch it). She was Semi/Unconscious for the last 3 days of her life. I can only hope she was completely out of it and didn't have to experience that pain. I can 100% understand why this guy wanted it over. He's already pretty old, struggling and in pain. Even if house had really killed him in this scene I would have thought he did the right thing. As hard as it is to see someone give up, I'd understand.
FYI: don't smoke kids. Not only did my granny get COPD but her daughter (My mom) Did too from second hand smoke her entire life.(Thankfully not as severe in my mother)
Ten years in from diagnosis. So much to look forward to. Nothing but evasion and looking away when you ask how long.
Chase staying in the room makes the scene so epic
When the patient says he wonders what's on the other side, House's response of "nothing" has more impact when you remember that House was technically dead for over a minute during the treatment of his leg infarction. House sees little value in accepting death unless you're absolutely sure there's no hope. He knows there's nothing for you on the other side.

How can everyone miss this
Patient: I have always wondered what's on the other side

Nothing to miss here.
The fact that a terminally ill patient can’t choose to die. The fact that it’s illegal for a doctor to kill said patient humanely. The fact that the patient is supposed to suffer and die slowly. This is one of those things people 200 years from now are going to look back on and say, “How barbaric people were back then...”
Obviously this case isn’t telling because they didn’t know what was wrong with the guy yet. But when we know...
They must be no allowed never to kill the patient. But the patient and only the patient should be allowed to kill himself.
I mean if someone REALLY wanted him to die quietly, I’m sure there’s somewhere he could go to... y’know, get the fast pass. Or do it himself.
Which is why the ending of the episode is left ambiguous as to house having ended his life at 2:30am after a nurse had checked him half an hour prior. House knew the pain he was in, and knew that if he could help cure him he would, but if he couldn't, then he would "cure" him of the agonizing pain and suffering
Have you seen the euthanasia rates in canada? A natural death is just that. Natural. Doctors should not be given power over human life.
Canada implemented Medical Assistance In Dying (MAID) a year or two ago for terminally ill patients.
MAID is now recommended to veterans with depression.
Stfu.
Lmao, chase did not expect house playing the uno reverse😂😂😂
House was one of the most consistently well-written, well-acted shows on TV. Sure there were a few duds (like Chase's social media accounts passwords being password and a vengeful jilted would be lover smearing him on-line for instance), but for 8 seasons, the show put out some really detailed, consistent character arcs and witty dialogue, with some very good acting from the cast as well as the guest stars.
I have altered the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further.
Cameron, Chase, and Foreman was the best team possible
They really do flush out Chase's moral line in this episode. Like later he murders Dibala in the episode 'The Tyrant'.
Wait: Chase was fine with murdering the man, but he bugs out when House starts trying again to find the answer instead?
From the first time the patient asked them to help him die, Chase was adamant that it was the patient's call, always, end of story. He said every doctor he'd ever practiced with before had done it: "They don't want to, they don't like to, but that's the way it is." Foreman objected because it was illegal and Cameron couldn't make up her mind.
Thanks for clearing it up for me.

House: go get me a ventilator, I am gonna do this all night,

The tube thing House puts in the patient's mouth is not for exhaling. It's for inhaling. Exhaling does nothing, inhaling raises a little bar until you stop, at which point it falls back down to the bottom. It's used to sort of quantify the strength of an inhale and in pneumonia patients, it's used as a way to visualize your recovery progress, since after a couple days on IV antibiotics, you pretty rapidly regain your ability to breathe in as long as you keep trying to actively draw in deep breaths. Younger patients are told to treat it like a game. I was told to "get the bar up to the ten mark" and then after that I was told to keep beating my "high score". Being able to see the bar get a little higher every hour or so when I tried it motivated me to keep taking deep, strong breaths and sped up my recovery a bit. Within a day after receiving the device, I was able to keep it at the top for my entire breath and I was released the next morning.
TL;DR: House says "he has to exhale sometime", but exhaling into that device doesn't do anything at all, as the device is made to measure an inhale.
