this song could be the soundtrack of my life to a tee. i died 7 times and was in a coma for 2 weeks two years ago from jn 14th to jan 28. my recovery since has been quite the experience. many thoughts of happy times as well as sad. it's been one wild trip to say the least. today i called a childhood friend that i haven't heard from in years, just to tell him i loved him and missed him. my son, who's 8th b-day was today reminded me of him. beauty and pain. lif is good folks and happy birthday son

I'm only 48 this year, but I remember this song played on our local music TV show in NZ at the time called Happen-In. That was in 1970 when I was only 5 years old!

I first saw this film back when a drive-in was considered a premier venue. It was a twin screen place. Whilst my family watched some forgettable POS on one screen I watched this without sound through the back window of our station wagon. Have loved it ever since.
This song reminds me of a lot of my old friendships that I let die. "All the burning bridges that have fallen after me..." I guess ruining friendships is just an instinct of mine I'll never be rid of. I'll always miss you all, even if you do hate me.

Was a teenage and took my first girlfriend for the very first date to the theatre to watch this movie. Did marry her we had three children, two boys one girl. She passed five years ago and every time listen to this song it brings tears to my eyes.

It's a sad l sad state of prayer that this was a man's man's movie back in the day. I don't we been born the year before and didn't get to see it till I was 10 years old but this is a classic! The PC culture has driven most of our people who are truly heroes underground and waiting for fear of persecution. They are still out there and they rise to the occasion when they are needed to. Just hate the thought that our best years now way behind us.

I have been watching this for probably 2 years off and on. The movie is great, the theme is greater! This song holds so much meaning for me. Some of the best times and worst times in my life involved a jeep while I was in the U.S. Army. I really love the way you put this together. The first half with the lyrics I can SO relate to, and the 2nd half with the instrumental lets me think about the first half. Thanks for posting this! O'Carroll was great in this film. His role as the general made me see what a great actor he is from the moment he hit the camera I actually believed in his mad dog ambition. I still have broad grin and a now steadying chuckle when he listens to the radio... "that's it boys what the hell am I waiting around here for... BRING ME MY UNIFORM!" At the end the village believing he was the French General classic. You can never go wrong with Clint Eastwood, WW2 Nazis, and gold.
This was on ITV4 last night (Halloween 2012). SUCH an excellent film, never tire of watching it, just to see Telly Savalas. long before Kojak, at his inimitable best, the GORGEOUS Clint Eastwood, the hilarious Donald Sutherland with his 'negative waves', some VERY dodgy German soldiers, excellent action scenes and a fabulous music score. What more could you possibly wish for?
One of the best late 1970 singles released.....as much as i love it, still can't believe it charted as high as it did! Great movie and great song inclusion. Mike Curb was as hot as could be in the 70's....one of his best productions IMO.
