Jimbo is joined by Daniel Storey, Colin Millar and Matt Davies-Adams after the first silverware of the season is dished out at Wembley.
Liverpool’s kids overcome Chelsea’s expensively assembled squad to win the Carabao Cup thanks to a late Virgil Van Dijk header in extra-time. As a gleeful Jurgen Klopp sang along to ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, a queasy looking Pochettino led his ‘billion pound bottle jobs’ up the Wembley stairs for their second place medals.
In the Premier League, Arsenal are playing like one of the best teams in Europe as they make it six wins in a row by smashing the Magpies. What happened to Newcastle’s plan for world domination, as the team discuss if Eddie Howe has maybe bitten off more than he can chew?
We also venture why Villa should bin the Conference League and concentrate all their efforts on the top 4, and why we offer Marco Silva some overdue praise after Fulham’s last-gasp victory at Old Trafford. In the 97th minute, it was former Arsenal man Alex Iwobi, who secured the three points for Fulham after a sensational run from Adama Traoré.

You'll never convince me that the Endo offside call chalking off VVD's goal makes any sort of sense when it's a matter of routine play that occurs on nearly every set piece. Players are always trying to create channels for their attackers to run into, this is part and parcel of the game. That, on this one occasion, it was deemed necessary for VAR to intervene and a review to occur is absurd. Also, why aren't the defender's actions reviewed as part of the "subjective offside" analysis? Colwill never once looked around to see where either VVD or Endo were, which suggests to me that he wasn't even marking VVD. It was, on his part, lazy zonal marking, which, for me, means Endo just standing in space and getting run into, even if by design, wouldn't have worked had the defender simply swiveled his head a little bit. There's no reason to punish a player simply for standing still and getting run into by an opponent who can't even be bothered to scan the pitch.

Comparing "Silva, Badiashile, Cucurella, Chukwuemeka, James, Fofana, Lavia", with Trent, Szoboszlai, Salah, Jota, Nunez, Matip, Jones, Allison and Thiago is laughable. Granted James and Silva are a big loss, but the rest are fringe/weak squad players at best. Lavia hasn't even played yet...

Liverpool are down.to.bare bones. They needed legs to keep any sort of press intact.
Just ignore everything Klopp said and make up your own scenario. Good grief.

I'm not having the offside/interfering with play decision against Endo during the first VVd goal.. Colwill ran in to Endo. Endo simply stood his ground. Its not like Endo had grabbed Colwill or anything.. I thought a player on the pitch could stand where he wants and not move. Need to check the rules obviously.

i have to say having taken a long break from listening to this podcast and indeed football podcasts in general - coming back in i am astounded at how poor the analysis and punditry is on this podcast in particular.
the less said about Matt Davies - Adams the better - bitter, biased, demonstrably wrong on Klopp's true intentions putting on the kids and also his feelings around winning the League Cup
Colin Millar is chatting absolute BUBBLES about VAR and trying to construct false narratives around it when the first goal for VVD shouldn't have even been checked.
And as for Daniel Storey, who looks like he's genuinely falling asleep during this, saying that 'if players believe there's a Klopp DNA running through the club' - THERE IS! They literally play the same way right the way through the academy and all the age group teams you absolute plum, you're a journalist you're meant to know this, you do this for a living.
Honestly, the state of football 'journalism' and 'analysis' in this country is almost as embarassing as the standard of refereeing.
stealing a living this lot, Jimbo lumbered with a bunch of amateurs

That "Klopp/Liverpool should have won more trophies" line being repeatedly uttered is a load of agenda/narrative led bs meant to demean Klopp's/Liverpool's achievements.
Liverpool/Klopp have twice lost out to Man City in the PL by a single point, whilst they have lost to Real Madrid twice in the CL final. Both of those clubs have already been found guilty of 'wrongdoings' and have 'questionable' financial streams', whilst Ramos made sure that Liverpool's best player was unable to make his mark on his/Klopp's first CL final whilst at Liverpool.
Klopp/Liverpool have spent 1/3 as much as both Manchester clubs (never mind Chelsea) yet they've won every competition bar the EL, a competition that Klopp reached the final in his first six months at the club, and he could get his hands on the trophy this season.
Personally I don't think any other manager would have done as well as Klopp give what he inherited, and the restrictions that have been placed upon him.

jimbo very much reflects the guests around him. when he was on football weekly at the guardian he had a perfect foil in barry glendenning, and the banter was epic. i was at a live podcast recording they did after a merseyside derby in liverpool and it was one of the funniest things i've ever been to in a football context and jimbo and barry were in the bar having a drink with the crowd who'd bought tickets and just cracking on like a couple of normal fans. i don't think the guests here really bring out the best in jimbo, as he's far more lively on the euro pod with people he can bounce off like rafa and jules
