Why Dominik Szoboszlai Is Already Liverpool's Most Important Player

  • Dominik Szoboszlai arrived at Liverpool with a reputation for being a flying, goal-scoring wide attacker. And yet, even in his earliest appearances for Jurgen Klopp's side, he's become one of the most dynamic and effective central midfielders in the Premier League. Adam Clery examines why, despite some criticism over his attacking output, he's become the central figure in the team looking far more dangerous than it has in recent seasons.

    the most complete midfielder alongside Bellingham right now. can score bangers, excellent at set pieces, good in dribbling, out of the world stamina and enduance, pressing on another level, can play like 7 positions, superb tactical understanding, great leadership qualities and maturity. what amazes me is the way he took responsibility for Liverpool's lack of number 6: unusual to see a very technical player that gives this much defensively. Imagine when he starts showing his attacking qualities more often when Liverpool sign a number 6

      I’m not 100% but I’m pretty sure Liverpool managed to find a buried clause in his contract that let him leave for that release clause, I think they only found it with like a few days left to activate it and that’s why it gone done so quickly, it wasn’t a known release clause

    • @Auriflamme
      @Auriflamme Před 7 měsíci +6

      Supposedly Newcastle were in for him but then went for Tonali, and Man United couldn't chase him because they spunked their lunch money on Hojlund and Mount, while Chelsea were trying to spend as much money as possible on defensive mids. Arguably City might have been in for him, but they have plenty of midfielders.

    • @ComradeOgilvy1984
      @ComradeOgilvy1984 Před 7 měsíci

      @@niallkelly8210 Things can move very quickly if the player definitely wants the move and the club comes with a fair offer. 60m is not cheap, even if he is looking like a gem at that price. If the player decides to be stubborn, there will be zero competing bids, because his agent will let it be known that terms for a new contract will not be agreed to by the player to any other club.
      The delays come when the player has some degree of interest in a bidding war. That lends leverage to the club indirectly.
      In this case, I think Klopp made a phone call to Szoboszlai that was persuasive, his agent liked the terms offered, and the rest is history. It surely did not hurt that Jurgen could say with 99.9% certainty that Dom could look forward to playing alongside one of the best midfielders from Qatar22 -- a man with a gold WC medal on his wall.
      Keep in mind that the other club likes to do business quickly, too. A pile of cash in the bank early gives them flexibility for how they do business for the summer.

      There are a couple factors. (1) Liverpool makes fewer shots on goals from outside the box compared to chances to do so, because they are stats driven and look to produce big chances within the box. (2) Szobo, Salah, Trent all like to drift into that same area near the top of the box on the right -- they are working this out over time but it has not always been smooth.

    I feel if everything is keep going how it's been so far, another 10-12 games and we will see even more crazy things from Szoboszlai. Remember 1: He is new to the club and league. 2: He is new for the team mates, they will understand him better. 3: There's a full new midfield. As individuals and as an unit they are still learning. It's already impressive and wonderful how well they function.
    In the future maybe spring or next season it would be great to see Szoboszlai in front 3 left to Gakpo. He is multifaceted skillful guy whose abilities haven't been discovered widely yet. Klopp has to keep pushing him into different roles and make him grow in multiple positions. Also Szoboszlai should keep his hunger and ambition. If Pool will have a safe and solid midfiels with Endo/Mac Allister/Gravenberch we could see a CR- like, Neymar-ish, Vinicius kind of play on the left front from Szoboszlai. I just say he has that potential.

    Unpopular opinion: one of the reasons Liverpool are in form, because of the man next to Dom.
    Jones might have no flare and lacks creativity on midfield, but he is also the reason the other two midfielders can do what they do. He’s an all rounder, that’s all over the pitch and is very good at counter pressing.
