- In this episode, we bring marquee investors, the OGs of the venture world. Learn what venture capital is, what works and what doesn't, and their learnings from many decades of funding the startup ecosystem in India.
I am sure it will be as insightful as an entire college semester for many. So do feel free to grab your notepad to soak up all the knowledge.
This is, by far, the most in-depth episode we have done and this will give you insights not only into funding but also into the ongoing macro view of the world of business, investments, and finance in general.

So many young people have wrong expectations of stock market returns.
Nikhil and Nitin being masters in this game, they should guide with do'es, don'ts and tools.
As usual, I love Nikhil's questions, calmness and curiosity
and also WTF Trading.
Couldn't agree more on both these topics
Yes
true that!
wow ... absolutely
2.5 hours == 2 years of business education + 1.01 crores committed to helpful cause - And all this comes for financially no cost to the viewers, just there dedication and curiosity. Love it!
One of the most important lesson that i learnt from this Podcast is that Successful People are damn good listeners 💯
When one person is speaking then there's a pin drop silence in the whole room
Just wow 💯
One more you missed : they also don't spent 2 hours listening to someone else rather do something even its a failures.

The base voice of Rajan and the way he's articulating his lines is just elite.......Class man!
That's the American accent.
As someone from Pakistan. Loved this. We’re still too far to catch up with the tech revolution in India and startup scene. But this is such an insight to learn from people who’ve done that in relatively near to similar conditions if not exactly similar conditions. Loved that. To everyone striving to succeed from both parts of the country, my prayers are with you. And Nikhil, keep going man.
Well said man 🙏

I really liked Nikhil's style of interviewing. Why? I think for the first time I saw VC being so open when having conversation, hats off to all the three VCs to open up and share their insights...to end my comment in a fun note, the two VCs finally folded their hands...bus bhai nikhil we surrender...😅
Nikhil is most seless business...he gives so much information to his viewers. This podcast is reading a management book
He is building a distribution here
16 minutes into it and starting to realize how much I love this channel.
Karthik reddy has a great journey to share,,his articulation & clarity is amazing, hopefully we can hv a solo podcast with him by nikhil or by any other podcast host

Thanks Nikhil for sharing!
I just need to comment: Thank you Nikhil for this podcast. No matter what you do, please don't stop making more episodes. I hope you enjoy these and will continue to enjoy making these
Yup inequality is not because of the system but because of human nature, and has always been like this.
💯💯
human nature, yes. but there are systems that force inequality (hierarchical systems which are too reductionistic), and those which force equality (like agile start-up environments).
@@Nishandh_Mayiladan you can say that for any system, capitalist system, communist system, democratic system, caste system etc....
Why system is like this because human nature was always like that due to pure biological/ survival needs.
1:10:17 - great to know Nikhil also likes saving 5%
This is pure gold. I really like this new trend where phenomenal entrepreneurs are using their personal network to democratize such great insights which historically only a handful of folks have had access to. First, it was Shantanu from BSC, and now Nikhil.
Some notes I took (nothing related to the technicalities of What is a VC/PE/Angel/Seed and several other terms which are very well covered in the podcast)
After a very traumatic event, you become either hateful or grateful.
You can’t teach the drive the hunger.
People who come from nothing and have a point to prove, they generally tend to be the ones that … (make it big)
Middle class but great education, supportive parents - a way to judge the winning selection
Nikhil takes up topic: Does hardwork really matter even today?
Nithin: Zerodha started in 2010, all our success came in 2016 - So today of course we can have all the 5 days a week but it took them 6 years of excruciating work
Nikhil goes on to add: I lived in my office for 6 years, like literally lived there, my bedroom was my cabin
Thanks folks and Nikhil / Nikhil's team, please keep these coming.
You should consider adding a UPI link for the audience to contribute to the Foundation as well. Small amounts directly to the foundation. We need more contributors, whether through financial means or by offering their services, such as teaching.
Usually, stock market traders are not calm when they talk or do things (even other than trading). Trading makes them restless. It's surprising to see Nikhil, being so calm and composed in his conversations
He is not a intraday guy !!
Traders r calm, If u have seen restless trader they might be crypto trading
KARTHIK REDDY IS AMAZING!!! his knowledge, insight , such well articulated perspective is a knowledge platter for anyone seeking. HIGHLY REQUEST TO GET A SOLO SESSION WITH KARTHIK SOMETIME...👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Amazing vid as always Nikhil!
One small suggestion I have is while choosing the charities, don't make the guest say out the amount to be donated. Just combine the total amount (for eg 25+10+25) and in the community post say that we are jointly going to donate 60L to XYZ charity. Everyone has a different background and may also be already be engaged in other philanthropic endeavors.
yeah agree, It may not be appropriate to put them in lime light and ask to spell out the amount :D
Agreed. Please dont make them commit the amount.
As Nithin mentioned - most of the discussions happened here are not available on internet, I have watched multiple VC interviews nobody is dared to ask such direct or core queries. Super amazing podcast and really useful for all startups in the nation. Hatsoff to you Nithin and offcourse I really liked your authentic nature.
Kamath bros are GOLD!!
No fancy setup/attire/accent/fake agreements/jokes…pure mature sheer intelligent discussion…worth watching the entire episode! ❤
Karthik is the most brilliant man in Indian Vc space. I personally met him and his knowledge and composure is incredible. Kudos to NIKHIL to bring him here and giving him a rightful place on a vc podcast! U cannot have Indian vc without men like karthik who didn’t even have any legacy names
To the point Nikhil mentioned about capitalism, I feel every nation should have their own perspective on capitalism, if they don't then it's sad. I believe Bharat has a unique perspective on it. Remember, Chanakya, he was a master strategist and a king maker, wrote ArthaShastra - Knowledge and wisdom on making and managing Money. Btw, we divided money in to 8 parts and also created a devotional hymns and named it Ashtalakshmi.
I think Nikhil should next interview Radhakrishnan Pillai and others experts who have digested Chanakya's work across Education, Politics, Philosophy, Environment, Nation building and Business
My 10,000 hours of learnings in last 10 years summarised in 2 hours. Incredible.
Big shoutout for launching this amazing podcast!
I've heard a lot about VC before, but this episode truly simplified everything. It actually explained how, who, and why VCs decide to fund certain startups.
Nikhil Kamath, you are amazing moderator!
One burning question though: you dropped out of school, yet you have knowledge on EVERYTHING! How do you manage to stay so informed across so many topics? Any wisdom to share on your personal knowledge-building routine?
You are inspiration to many for every age age group, Your answer on the question can help everyone to excel in their life.
The synergy between Karthik, Rajan and Prashant is absolutely a treat to watch !!
OMG, I watch lot of podcasts, but this is the one i hooked to... content, knowledge, philosophy, nuances, intricacies, insights and so on... too much into it... the best high quality podcast in India... this video will become true treasure of knowledge... no drama,no exaggeration,no playing to galary, no intention of getting more and more subscribers
I related to Nikhil when he said he would subconsciously pick Flipkart over Amazon because if I want to spend my money, it should be without a question to an Indian company. Not that I need to but I feel more comfortable with that.
The problem is that I lost my trust with Flipkart customer service many a times before I finally switched to Amazon half heartedly. I don't regret it now.
Nikhil makes more sense than everyone else. His insights on capitalism and income inequality are absolutely fascinating

I love how there’s a very clear intention in these episodes. Nikhil is right, no one is telling the new entrepreneurs these insights so he’s pushing for nuances. I’m very grateful to run into you. Great questions, great guests, great intention. Hope to see you one day bud!
Actually, this is the best form of charity. Successful people sharing their perspectives and knowledge are much more valuable than donating money.
but how to know if they are not misleading us?
The most valuable You Tube series out there today for Indians. Every time I see it, I feel very thankful to Nikhil for doing this. BIG BIG thanks!
This is the most OG episode on VC ever from an Indian podcast community!
Very useful. I have started developing so much respect for Nikhil's way of conducting this.
This is absolute high level quality content coming from top class VCs and Nikhil asking great questions!! Please keep it up! Also very impressed with Charity in the end.. brilliant job everyone!
Hey Nikhil,
I really love what you do. Thank you!
I'd recommend not revealing how much each person is willing to commit to charity, but only reveal the total to audience. While this strategy might receive lesser money, panellists are more likely to leave with a sweeter aftertaste.
Loved the podcast, gold-mine. One of the worthy podcast episode from India. Please maintain the quality of content, if not raise it even further. Amazing job.
1:38:29 Indeed huge opportunity for agri exports, recently heard of firm called Agrileaf Exports, exported millions of areca leaf plates to a firm in US called VerTerra Dinnerware, over the years. It is important to think long term and sustainability and building trust.
As an early 20's youth, I just love listening to such amazing people , accomplished so much and just the amount of attention to detail, I'm from Pakistan, do write on Indian startups and
would some day enter the entrepreneurship world hopefully!!
I am an average IT employee and a kid when it comes to knowledge on entrepreneurship and investments. But I am trying to learn through these podcasts. Some topics goes above my head but some do stay.
This right here is gold. The amount of knowledge I got from just watching 2 and a half hours of this podcast is insane. Please keep doing such episodes Nikhil.
The podcast was not only informative, covering everything from the basics to real-life scenarios, but also impressive in how it posed challenging questions to the guests. Their in-depth knowledge of the venture they were discussing was evident, and their responses were absolutely fantastic.
VCs have given a launchpad to entrepreneurs and employment to some extent, but these are the same folks who are hand in glove with them as well. I remember the time when at our startup we slogged our butts off to scale, raised funding and grew valuation - and then these folks come in and tell the founders the team isn't good enough. To top it all, they tell founders to hold off salary increments during pandemic after record company growth. Got to look at the black and white both. This episode is all white
I can't believe I have seen all the podcasts of Nikhil Kamath and looking forward for many more. Must admit Nikhil with your simplicity and honesty you are setting the new standards for podcasters around the world. No wonder you will have Elon, Jeff, Sundar and Satya soon at your podcast. Also how about having world leader's of G20 summit😊

It's like a masterclass to listen to these high quality minds every week and with the curiosity which Nikhil brings to the table is truly phenomenal. Kudos to Mr.Kamath! 🎉
Nikhil, Thanks for bringing such amazing individuals from the industry. I have just one request though, sometimes its better to let the other panelists complete their arguments instead of interrupting them with doubts/questions. We're missing on great points because of that.
Best thing on internet as of this moment. Bringing so much to the table for people who don't have access to big leagues. Grateful, gratitude and so much.
This video teaches how a man become calm and patience with experience over time.
Ive worked in a VC for a year, this is gold mine of knowledge. 100% correct and crucial to understanding how this asset class works.
I have started watching some of these "WTF pods/talks" recently. I love the much-needed intellectual honesty in these talks. Love the way Nikhil facilitates these discussions.
Really loved your ability to ask questions to bring out the clarity. Already the guests are extremely eloquent, but still extracting clarity from their responses by the virtue of simple questions is a great superpower to have .
Colleges won't be able to give this much value at a cheap price let alone for free.
I'm not being lazy or anything but if somehow you could produce stuff such as a simple PDF of notes that pop up on the screen.
It will really help to revisit those quickly.
And we can always refer to this video as well.
Thank you so much for the knowledge. Love it. ❤
