    Frankenstein’s Monster is another one of my favorite Marvel monsters

    Only just found this video. I discovered 'Monster of Frankenstein' via the UK Marvel comic 'Dracula Lives', and it was immediately my favourite strip. Artist Mike Ploog left the series because he didn't like the modern update. I personally felt it declined quite sharply at this point (although I loved all the 'Monsters Unleashed' stories) and only began to really pick up just before the comic was cancelled! A real shame. I never knew it continued with Iron Man - as you say, why wasn't that strip included in the omnibus!? Cheers for the info!
    Thanks so much for this in-depth review and overview. It really brought back some amazing memories.

    Awesome Frankenstein is the greatest monster still I think.

      Certainly the Granddaddy of them all, predating Dracula and Mr. Hyde (who seems very influential on Werewolves. I even have a novel called The Hyde Effect that actually is a Werewolf story). From these three sprang the DNA of classic monsters!

      Nice! Sadly I don't have any of the originals, I DO have the first part of that 2-part Iron Man story that wrapped it up though. Still scratching my head as to why that wasn't included in this collection, or why they didn't just split it into two volumes to fit everything. Still a great collection though, and basically has everything BUT that one story.

      You need the next three issues to complete the adaptation of the original story. Worthwhile!

    There is an Anime movie by Toei that often gets referred to as an adaptation of this Marvel Comic, but it doesn't actually seem very similar. That movie seems more Universal inspired then this being more a spin off of the Novel.

      They also did an anime of Tomb Of Dracula that was much more faithful to the Marvel continuity. Actually found a DVD of that one. I've watched the Frankenstein one as well but can't find a DVD of that. Seems to me that the Wonderful World Of Mister Magoo where he's an actor did a version of an oversized Frankenstein Monster as well (other episodes had him rescue Dick Tracy and play Sherlock Holmes!). Can't find this stuff anywhere!

    Great video. I would've said "Calling it, next week you're doing "Tomb of Dracula"!", but when you said that you don't have it in TPB, I was like "Ouch!", nevermind. Anyway, sounds like a pretty cool story, especially considering that the first fourth issues happen to be an adaptation of Mary Shelly's novel. Not to mention the liberty they took with "The Bride", I mean Jesus, Marvel had balls to change that moment and make it more horrifying. Gonna have to keep an eye out for this one.

    Hey did you know there is a Anime adaptation of these comics, oh yes there is, well sort of. It have different titles though, Monster of Frankenstein is one because most people seen it as an adaption to the Marvel's version to the story and it also is referred to simply as Frankenstein, or in Japan is "Kyoufu Densetsu Kaiki! Furankenshutain" which in English means, "Legend of Horror! Frankenstein", and the film does not have a DVD release but do have VHS copies which according to my research are quite rare to find these days, but however, the only access to watch it is through CZcams as there are several videos of it, even a Japanese dub which I wouldn't recommend because it doesn't have English subtitles which sucks because the English dubbing is one of the worst in history of English dubbing in Anime or any original non-English shows/movies, just want to give you that warning. Other things I would say that this particular adaptation seems to take alot of things from both the original novel from Mary Shelley and the Marvel comics, as well the Universal films and even bits of the Hammer movies, and with all of that it is loosely based on the comics, and the story and characters are well done I got to admit. I will shared the link to it if you never even saw the movie.

    • @zaranyzerak
      @zaranyzerak  Před 5 lety

      Amazon often has listings for out of stock titles. For third party sellers who have them, and in case it comes back in stock. sometimes, like that one, they list an amazon price as well. You still can't buy it though, not until they get more. It works like a Pre-Order listing. Order now, they'll charge you when/if it ships.

    Nice review breakdown! that sucks that trade doesn't include the rest of the appearances. I will probably get that trade any way, seeing how Marvel probably won't reprint it in the future, seeing how its pretty much complete except for the random iron man issues and avengers issues it doesn't include. I'd imagine the random Iron Man and Avengers issues are not much to pay for any way.

    • @richardranke7878
      @richardranke7878 Před 5 lety

      Actually the Iron Man issues sort of wrapped up the story from the comics, having the monster living with Victoria Frankenstein and her other little creatures,which is where he'd gotten in the last issue of the too-short series. (BTW I have a book reprinting all the issues of Frankenstein Monster, Monster Usleashed and even the Werewolf by Night Annual the monster was in.)

    Hey Sean one cool monster of Frankenstein appearance comic. You should check out is Monster-size hulk. It's horror anthology where hulk meet the marvel monsters. One of them being the Frankenstein monster. It's sorta cannon to the original run.

    Ummm.. this sounds a LOT like Swamp Thing. The collection Dark Genesis collects the first ten issues. He doesn't speak. Arcane wants to swap bodies with him under the pretense of making him human. I wonder if they influenced each other. Regardless, both are a part of my trio of favorite fictional characters. The third one is RoboCop.

    Off topic but i have to ask, what are your thoughts on Doctor Who series 11? Personally I can't get over how awful Jodie is (and apparently some USA viewers are complaining they can't understand her accent LOL) and was that half assed second story really the best Chibnall could come up with? Next weeks episode is the Rosa Parks one (considering the current political situation over there shot with blacker than black irony in South Africa. I mean are the BBC really that lacking in self awareness?) and frankly I'm not sure I'll be able to watch it due to the inevitable obvious and obnoxious political slant.

    • @zaranyzerak
      @zaranyzerak  Před 5 lety

      I think Jodie's been wonderful so far. Lots of fun, and loving the more cinematic look/feel to the show. I have no problem with politics in a historical story, seems perfectly appropriate to me given the topic of that story.

    • @desperatemohammedantheworl5833
      @desperatemohammedantheworl5833 Před 5 lety

      Jodie comes across as a try hard, which is kind of funny because she openly admitted she was too lazy to put on a more "received"/neutral accent a la Tennant. She's also been lecturing us fans about the un-PC sins of Classic Who which is hilarious as she's obviously seen maybe a handful of stories (or more likely is parroting what the ideologue Chibnall has told her about them). I shouldn't read her interviews but her stupidity and inability to stick to her own half-formed narratives makes them depressingly amusing reading. I guess the BBC PR goons weren't quite as successful at brainwashing her as they would have liked to have been.
      The music is easily the best thing about the reboot. Re the look of the show the tighter aspect ratio and more cinematic look is on the whole appealing to the eye but as I'm prone to I regularly notice shortcuts and tricks in the way things are framed/shot (not a criticism)
      There's no fun and so far both episodes have been a slog. I don't get how people were calling ep.1 thrilling, while one review actually said the opening 10 minutes or so of ep.2 were among the most exciting in Doctor Who history. While it had an element of suspense and pace sorely lacking from ep.1 (at least until the spaceship just happened to crash a few hundred metres from them) it was nothing special.
      Ep.3 looks vile so I'll be skipping that one. Who knows things might buck up with ep.4?

    • @zaranyzerak
      @zaranyzerak  Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah, I really have no desire to get into this. I'm so tired of the negativity, hate and toxicity. I was entertained, I like it, I'm excited to see where it goes, the end. You don't like it. Fine. Let's move on now.

    • @desperatemohammedantheworl5833
      @desperatemohammedantheworl5833 Před 5 lety

      Well what do you expect after 15 months of Chinball and the BBC telling us fans how toxic we are because we expressed doubts regarding his writing and casting abilities? And then when they finally let Whitaker speak, jeez, what an egotistical airhead. That was about 20% of longterm fans alienated in one swoop.
      The biggest sin of these first two episodes was the simple fact they were so dull and uninspired.
