    Dude.. I TOTALLY had the idea for a version of Freddy that took place in Victorian London and was like Jack the Ripper but it's Freddy. I swear I had never heard of this comic before.

    I was so heartbroken when I finished issue 2 of the Nightmare magazine, because at the time I was unaware it had been cancelled. That story was easily the best Nightmare story to come out between Dream Master and New Nightmare. It's such a good fucking story.
    And Marvel had their acclaimed Dracula series in the 70's, they were no stranger to horror. Fuck parent's groups.
    And no, there isn't an ending. The story 'ends', but there is absolutely no resolution, and it's left on a cliff-hanger. Allison is sent to an isolation ward where she's going to be sedated, and it ends with her begging them not to. That's how it ends. It's like if Dream Warriors ended when Kincaid was sent to the padded room. Just abruptly ending there. It's a god damned crime I tell you.

    And I hope my comment isn't coming off rude, this is a great video and breakdown of those mags. Liked!

      Man, I couldn't agree more! Thought it was a fine return to form for Marvel's horror mags, and SUCH a treat for Nightmare fans, but that cliffhanger ending was a total slap in the face. On the plus side we at least got a look at the cover for Issue 3...sigh.

      Allison was set to return to the comic series in a later issue, but sadly of course they just stopped making them, and that was that. It's disappointing that they didn't do all of the planned issues. I believe they had 6 or 8 issues planned out. I'm glad to have 1 and 2 though. The artwork is awesome, the story is really good, and issue 1 is the first appearance of Freddy in a comic book, so there's at least a few cool things that these books have going for them.

    I was really disappointed when the guy who owned the local comic book shop told me that Marvel had cancelled that b&w magazine. He was also pretty pissed at Marvel for bowing to all the pressure and pulling he plug.

    • @zaranyzerak
      @zaranyzerak  Před 8 lety +1

      Yeah, it sucks especially given what an awesome job they were doing with it. Just poor timing on their part I guess. And bowing to the "hypothetical possibility of pressure" which just irks me even more.

    1989, around the time Marvel Comics were going to get themselves into financial trouble, if they weren't all ready. They probably won't admit it, but that could have been a possible reason for the early cancellation. Ah yes 'the' Andy Mangels from the BCI Eclipse He-Man DVD's and of whom James Eatock mentions (somewhere) in this new He-Man cartoon guide. Small world...a very small world, oh and apparently Steve Gerber worked on the animated Dungeons and Dragons series, or at least the DVD's apparently. I dont know of that is exactly true, but I do recall the name when you mentioned it from somewhere. Also I see Rosie likes to haunt your videos. :D

      The reason is because of the Matchbox talking Freddy doll. Parents and church groups complained so everyone who was making Freddy products at that time stopped. The Talking Freddy was stopped, the entire Maxx FX line was canned, and the LJN Freddy toys were pulled from shelves, too. Marvel followed suit and cut production before they faced the wrath of the crybabies.

    I picked up the Innovation Nightmares series over the years. If I remember right, the first two were with Nancy and the rest had Alice and Jacob. Avatar did a run that I got most of but the best was the 2 issues from Marvel. Chuck Dixon's Wildstorm run wasn't too bad either.

    I'm really surprised a company like Dynamite haven't grabbed up the licenses for the "Horror Icons" (Wildstorm owned Nightmare, Friday & TCM but are now defunct)
    Dynamite are awesome when it comes to their classic character stuff

      Very true! I agree, they would be the first choice for me as well. I've flipped through some of their other classic character stuff, and it looks fantastic! I really want to get their comics based on The Shadow...

    I wish those Nightmare on Elm Comics, was in color instead of black & white.

    • @zaranyzerak
      @zaranyzerak  Před 8 lety +2

      Why? The black and white artwork is beautiful - dark, moody, full of stark contrast, and loaded with detail. It was drawn from the ground up with the intention of being seen in black and white, just like Marvel's other magazine format titles from this era.
