Try the audio settings in the video player under audio rendering/settings, switch to support to AC3 or any 5.1 content possibilities. Moreover you should play 5.1 content then only you can able to see the difference.

@@aswinsinfo I found a simple solution bro. I have a OnePlus 3w inch tv which supports Dolby audio and hence I connected the hdmi arc to the tv and then the 2nd hdmi to pc. Its output was stereo but to watch movies from pot player I adjusted the setting with 3/0/2+lfe and it's working 5.1 completely fine and also Dolby digital videos. Thanks for the help bro.

That hdmi is for only connecting with tv supporting dobly digital and dolby digital plus .. If ur tv doesnt support dolby or dolby + sound will be played in lpcm 2.0 For connecting with laptop u need hdmi to optical

Are you using TV or desktop? If it is desktop, the optical port should be capable of 5.1 channel support.

Check if the motherboard optical port supports 5.1 channel. Some don't.

You can check with Amazon or any local market with branded one. But ensure the product should support HDMI audio and Video splitter.

HDMI ARC is a two way port. We can directly connect it to the HDMI of our PC. But we have to select the HDMI sound out option in linux
