Hi Gregg bought this car about 6 months ago and now terrified of this happening to me. I’m assuming the major cost in replacing this will come in the labor as well? I’m seeing the batters priced from 1500-2500 and that might not be too bad but I’ve heard people telling me it cost them 5-8k to replace them. (Battery included). Is that accurate? If so, it seems like I could possibly be able to do the labor myself if this happens. Just an unplug and replug with the new battery kind of thing right?

Thank you for watching. I understand your feelings. My opinions are:
1 - Most expensive and fastest option would be to remove the old HV pack, purchase replacement battery from Toyota (Last new one I purchased was $1950 - January 2024), switch everything over, reinstall pack in car, take core back to Toyota. This does require disassembly of the pack and transfer of the batteries along with installation of new cables which they provide. This takes a few hours and is easiest to do as all you will need are standard hand tools.
2 - Middle option - Purchase replacement pack that has been refurbished. I have done this and was very unhappy with the results. Worked for only a few months before getting error and by the time I got done arguing with the seller, they would not honor warranty without me paying shipping back and forth. This is the reason I started refurbishing myself. There are surely better companies out there now and some of them for $600-$1500 will even do the labor for you depending on location.
3 - Do the refurbish as shown in the video. This is the lowest priced option but will require the most time. The upside is knowing the job is done right and that you can fix it yourself if any problems arise in the future. A bonus is having the ability to do this for others and make money.
I wish you best luck with whatever you decide.

Thank you for watching. I stick to the stock batteries because they cost less.

Hello I want to buy a used 2012 toyota prius v Noir …it has 299 000 km 10995$ Canadian money. Do you think it is a good choice? And what I should care about before if I don’t want to live with regrets? Thant you

Hello, I am not sure if the mileage and price are good because I am not familiar with the costs in your area. I recommend getting an OBD2 bluetooth reader and the dr prius app to test the hybrid pack. I also recommend getting head gasket leak detector fluid and checking that the head gasket is good.

Do modules come with the new battery or do you have to tranfer from old battery ?

Most places including the dealership sell the batteries only. When you get the replacement you need to remove the electronics on the end and install them on the new pack.
